The fun in making Galaxy Quest
SimonJack31 August 2023
This is an 18-minute video short that was made to go with the 2009 DVD release of "Galaxy Quest." That was the highly popular parody and light satire of the Star Trek series and films and of modern Sci-fi space films in general. Many of the cast comment on aspects of making the movie - Tim Allen, Alan Rickman, Sam Rockwell and others.

The movie's director, Dean Parisot, and producers and writers (Robert Godon and David Howard) weigh in on the production. Several technical people discuss the sets and various aspects of the movie. The filmmakers comment on the effort to satirize the sci-fi films without bashing them - with good-natured humor. Some commented on how well the Trekkers liked and accepted the film. Noting that it's an insult to call devotees and fans of the Star Trek series "Trekkies," one said the Trekkers felt that the filmmakers "got it right" in "Galaxy Quest."

Nicholas Meyer, a writer-director, says "Galaxy Quest is a have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too movie. And these are the hardest, I think, to pull off."

This is an interesting look at the cast, crew, production and designs of Quest, And, it's apparent that everyone had fun and enjoyed the making of that film.
