At the beginning of the episode, Dr. Brennan says that she is uncomfortable stating the victim's gender based solely on the skull. However, she repeatedly determines not only gender but also race throughout the rest of the series by only looking at the skull (based on several factors such as brow and jaw prominence, orbital ridges, etc).
When inspecting the body in the warehouse, Brennan mentions a "partial fusion of the distal radius and acromion" to determine that the victim is "pubescent." The distal radius (forearm bone) is located in the wrist, and the acromion is a bony landmark of the scapula (shoulder blade)
