FURY OF THE FIST AND THE GOLDEN FLEECE is another indie comedy made in a grindhouse style, deliberately dated-looking and schlocky in a 1970s style. Unfortunately, it's also terribly written and made without any money at all, so if you're looking for something along the lines of KUNG FURY then you're going to be distinctly disappointed. This consists merely of over the top character work and deliberate homage scenes to old cult, exploitation and kung fu cinema. A shame that the actors are so mannered and wooden, then, and that there's no decent action to speak of to be found here; merely embarrassment at the lack of a story and any kind of coherency. The SINGLE thing this has going for it is a string of cameos from anyone and everyone, with Danny Trejo, Cynthia Rothrock, Bill Goldberg and Michael Dudikoff showing up among others. They don't make this anywhere near good though.

A mistake of a film

FURY OF THE FIST AND THE GOLDEN FLEECE feels like if you took a group of Gen-Z kids, showed them a couple '80s martial arts flicks and said, "Okay, now YOU try it!" It's so lazy and ignorant in what it's attempting to satirize that nearly every bit of humor falls completely flat and is just oddly detached. On top of this, a kitchen sink's worth of color filters, overlays, film grain, chromatic aberration and more are overused with motion-sickness results. Oddly, they also added video game (or maybe graphic novel?) effects that were never in any of those old films. The whole thing is a dull but exhausting fever dream. This very barely looks and quacks like an '80s duck, enough to maybe fool young people who have bought into the "everything '80s is cool" bandwagon, but wow is it awful. So bad it's terrible. Avoid this at all costs.
Freaking hilarious

I never had so much fun watching a B-movie parody. It's like a parody on steroids. So many cameos. I keep recognizing a new face every time I watch it. Amazing "blast from the past" only understood if you grew up in the 80s and love martial arts.
Waste of time

I also have to say it was really good for its genre.. I laughed a lot, and really enjoyed the characters.. It was so over the top with its humor, but it worked! A great mix of personalities and definitely a cool/fun/trippy tribute to the early 80's Comedy/Action Martial Arts films.. Stoners, prepare to laugh your asses off in mystical mayhem ;) with lots of great cameos!

The humor of this movie just doesn't sit well with today's soft society where everything is now offensive. First thing you have to understand is this is a PARODY movie. It is full of 80's actors and references that a lot of viewers probably won't understand unless you have lived through that era. I confess, I might be a little partial to the movie as it has some of my favorite lesser known actors such as Michael Dudikoff and Simon Rhee. Also a huge Don Frye and Bill Goldberg. This flick was a real treat for me.
An A list of B actors

Trejo, Rothrock, Jones, Whalen, Grieco, Winslow, O'Halloran , Goldberg, Dudikoff, Lister Jr., and so many others. I can't help but wonder if this movie had a Marvel Universe budget how much sillier it could have been. Probably not much, but the CGI would push it through the roof.
