The Nymphets
Director/Screenwriter: Gary Gardner
A well-to-do 30-something man invites two rowdy young girls to party in his loft, leading to a night of provocation and cruelty, all in the name of getting laid. Cast: Kip Pardue, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Jordan Lane Price, Paulina Singer. (World Premiere) (film synopsis from sxsw.com)
Overall
I consisted felt like I was stuck with oddly aggressive teenagers who spent the majority of time looking at each other and giggling. Add to that a guy who really makes ignorant, frustrating decisions, and it just feels like I’m stuck. The interesting thing is, I think that’s what Gardner is going for. There are moments of curiosity here, but they never last long enough for me. Dexter-Jones is someone I will definitely keep an eye on. She does good work. And because Gardner does create the vision he wants,...

The Nymphets
Written and directed by Gary Gardner
USA, 2015
It takes only a few moments for The Nymphets to establish its chaotic atmosphere. Opening with a percussive, kinetic score and whipping through its credits, Gary Gardner’s film is rarely at a standstill. Character dynamics are always changing, and the narrative has a way of shifting course, preventing viewers from discerning where exactly its going. The Nymphets is always in a state of flux, which makes for an exhilarating – if at times frustrating – cinematic experience.
The premise of the film is exceedingly simple. Joseph (Kip Pardue), a wealthy thirty-something, invites two impish young women over to his apartment for a night of drugs, sex and alcohol. At first Brittany and Allison (Annabelle Dexter-Jones and Jordan Lane Price respectively) seem like your stereotypical vapid teen sexpots. They giggle endlessly with each other, make immature jabs at their host, and parade around the apartment in his clothes.

Joe (Kip Pardue) just wants a drink, but his attempt to enter a club is thwarted by the antics of two girls in front of him clashing with the bouncer over their fake IDs. Allyson (Jordan Lane Price) and Brittany (Annabelle Dexter-Jones) draw Joe into their shenanigans, and soon the three are sharing spirits back at his apartment. They’re playful, mischievous and cagey about their ages, and while he’s wary of that last fact it’s clear he might be willing to take the risk of sleeping with one or both of them. But is sex what the girls are after? Is Joe’s interest driven by their youth or by sheer desperation related to his current relationship? As the night goes on the various members of the trio seem at odds with each other’s intentions, and the competing desires never quite seem in sync — let alone completely clear. The Nymphets...

There is a point at any party that goes until the wee hours, where it teeters on being respectably reckless, or destructively out of control, and it seems like the upcoming "The Nymphets" walks that razor's edge. With the film slated to premiere at SXSW, we have the exclusive poster and trailer for the movie here. Written and directed by Gary Gardner, and starring Kip Pardue, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Jordan Lane Price, and Paulina Singer, the story follows the older, successful Joe, who brings two younger, rowdy girls home with him one night. They start to party in his loft, but the flirting starts to take on an uncomfortable aggression, and the revelation that Joe has a girlfriend tips the scales further. As you'll see in the trailer, the dynamic between all three swings pretty wildly as the evening wears on. "The Nymphets" will have its first screening at SXSW on Saturday,...

Amy Schumer and Bill Hader in TrainwreckPhoto: Universal Pictures With Sundance just wrapping up and Berlin starting up in a few days, we are now immersed in the year-long barrage of film festivals. One such festival in South By Southwest. A few weeks back they announced the first seven films of their program, including the opening night film Brand: A Second Coming. Today, they have revealed the rest of the features to be shown in March (except for the midnight program), and some of it has me very excited. The bigger titles announced do not do much for me. Paul Feig's Spy, starring Melissa McCarthy, and the Will Ferrell/Kevin Hart starrer Get Hard leave a lot to be desired in terms of anticipation, as does a work in progress cut of Judd Apatow's latest film Trainwreck. I'm guessing an Apatow work in progress is probably around three and a half hours.

SXSW runs from March 13 to 21 in Austin and is now in its 22nd year. Variety has details of the 145 films and 100 world premieres bowing at this year’s festival. Brand, as previously reported, will be the festival’s opening night film.

While in the City of Light, Culkin and Price toured the Center Pompidou and ate diner at Chez Georges. The also enjoyed each other's company at Café de Flore, where Culkin was captured leaning over to give Price a quick kiss.
"They were very animated and talked together a lot," a fellow patron told People at the time. "They kissed at the table and were very comfortable. They have the air of being very much in love."
