Just before a Canadian airliner is ready to take off from an airport in the Dominican Republic, a crew member performing a preflight check discovers that eight bags full of wrapped cocaine has been hidden in a compartment. The pilot immediately notifies Dominican police, who arrive at the airport and take custody of the drugs. However, instead of the crew being allowed to leave, they are detained--first in jail then released on bail but restricted to their hotel--for the next seven months. they are not charged with smuggling the drugs or even questioned about them, but they are still not allowed to leave the country. A reporter for a Canadian TV station hears about this and decides to investigate.
