- The making-of the 2022 4K Ultra HD version of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture - The Director's Edition".
- This 8-part 'making-of' Blu-ray extra explores in depth the creation and history of the 2022 4K Ultra HD version of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture - The Director's Edition". The 8 parts: 1) "Preparing the Future" traces the history of Star Trek from the 1960s TV series to the first movie in 1979. The 1979 version was considered by many to be incomplete and unfinished. The 2001 Director's Edition was a major improvement over the 1979 version, and the 2022 4K Ultra HD version is yet another major improvement over the 2001 version. It has taken over 42 years to get it right. 2) "A Wise Choice" discusses Robert Wise's work as director of ST:TMP, from the viewpoint of those who worked with him. 3) Many details of re-designing and photographing perhaps the most iconic spaceship model ever built, are told in "Refitting the Enterprise". 4) "Sounding Off" yields many details of the work to redo and improve the sound using Dolby Atmos technology and original sound elements. 5) We learn about the design and presentation of the movie's antagonist in "V'ger", with emphasis on the contributions of concept artist Syd Mead and the improved look of the alien spaceship in the 2022 version. 6) "Return to Tomorrow" relates the intense time pressure in post-production to meet the original release deadline in 1979, with the resulting loss of quality. The visual look of the film is much sharper and cleaner in the 2022 UltraHD version. 7) Jerry Goldsmith's masterful work on the film's score and sound effects is profiled in "A Grand Theme". Finally, in 8) "The Grand Vision" we can see the enduring legacy of ST:TMP in the visuals, plot lines, and sets of later Star Trek movies and TV series.—yortsnave
