ITV plc has bought the award-winning indie producer The Garden, the team behind Channel 4 hits 24 Hours in A&E and The Audience and BBC Two's Inside Claridge's.
Launched in 2010 by Nick Curwin and Magnus Temple, The Garden's other credits include Seven Dwarves, The Midwives and Keeping Britain Alive.
ITV will play £18 million upfront for The Garden and will play more across five years, depending on the producer's success. In 2012, the indie made an operating profit of £2.5 million.
Kevin Lygo, managing director of ITV Studios, said: "The Garden has grown rapidly and achieved an enviable reputation for outstanding delivery of innovative, ambitious documentary series for the BBC and Channel 4.

ITV is continuing its acquisitions drive, this time at home in Britain. The company is buying independent producer The Garden for £18M ($27.4M) with a further cash payment contingent on profit performance over the next five years. The Garden was launched in 2010 by BAFTA winners Nick Curwin and Magnus Temple; the duo had previously created Dragonfly, which was later sold to Elisabeth Murdoch’s Shine. In December, ITV acquired a controlling stake in Duck Dynasty makers Gurney Productions for $40M and last year it bought Norwegian production company Mediacircus and Britain’s So Television. The deals form part of its five-year Transformation Plan. The Garden produces Channel 4’s BAFTA-nominated 24 Hours In A&E and The Audience. Its Inside Claridge’s won Best Documentary Series at the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards in March. Its credits also include Seven Dwarves for Channel 4 and BBC Two’s The Midwives and Keeping Britain Alive.
