You thought you were okay sitting on the toilet until you read Dreamcatcher. You’d happily walk past a storm drain until you read It. You’d go into a creepy boutique shop before checking Needful Things out of the library. You didn’t even mind checking into Room 217 at a hotel until you read The Shining. More than perhaps any other horror novelist, Stephen King has unnerved our collective imagination with twisted creations that stalk our everyday lives. Demonic cars, rabid dogs, alien domes, possessed caretakers, crazed fans… there’s a Stephen King monster for every day of the year, plus one extra on leap years.
With a back catalogue reaching all the way from the 1970s to now, if you stacked every novel Stephen King had ever published in a teetering pile, it would almost certainly topple over and crush you to death.
That’s before we even...

After years and years of anticipation, rumors, and leaks, GTA 6 is finally coming out next year. Rockstar Games loves a challenge and took it upon itself to make each game better than before, GTA: San Andreas was way ahead of its time regarding realistic features despite being held back by technological limitations, but it didn’t stop the developers from innovating throughout Red Dead Redemption 2.
Realism is Rockstar’s greatest asset whenever they put out a brand new game, their most popular franchise is Grand Theft Auto but managed to explore and create new worlds on the sides. Each of their game has always improved upon what was lacking in the previous title, may it be graphics, physics, or even story, Rockstar treats each game as a lesson. The hair growth and weight system was introduced in previous titles, and fans are hoping for it to return in GTA 6.

With four TV and film projects in as many years, few filmmakers right now are more prolific than Hirokazu Kore-eda.
The veteran Japanese filmmaker behind titles like the Palme d’Or-winning Shoplifters and Still Walking continued his hot streak after landing his third directing honor from the Asian Academy Sunday night for his last feature, Monster. Last night’s win was Kore-eda’s second consecutive Best Director win at the Asian Film Awards after nabbing the gong with the Korean-language Broker in 2023.
“I’m in a really good spot right now,” Kore-eda told Deadline shortly before picking up the award on Sunday. “I’m not forcing myself at all. I’m constantly working. I have good stamina.” The filmmaker told us that he has no intentions of slowing down.

Helldivers 2 was a tremendous success for Arrowhead Game Studios and Sony Interactive Entertainment. Reaching a million copies sold in the first three days alone, the developers were unprepared for the positive reception which is rightfully deserved. Fans have spent hours and hours fighting aliens, space bugs, and more that threaten Earth, it is the ultimate sci-fi shooter any gamer could ask for.
The original Helldivers was released in 2015, the developers did everything a perfect follow-up should, also changing things up a bit like being a third-person shooter rather than top-down, and then some.
For a game that tackles combat and uncontrolled mayhem, destruction should be also over the top. Built on a discontinued engine known as the Autodesk Stingray, players begin to wonder if their request for realism is too big of an ask for the game’s engine.

Alan Ruck has been playing the role of Connor Roy in HBO’s “Succession” and getting his due credit. However, it all began for him with 1986’s all-time classic “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”. He played the nervous, fast-talking Cameron Frye in John Hughes’ classic. He reluctantly got dragged along on Ferris’ epic adventure, stealing his dad’s Ferrari and causing delightful mayhem throughout Chicago.
A still from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Many years later, Alan Ruck might have a bone to pick with someone. Despite recently bringing the character back to life, it seems like Ruck does not recall doing any such incident. The reason why he has seemingly forgotten reprising his character is definitely worth knowing!

Don’t ask Tim Commerford about the status of Rage Against the Machine: “I don’t know. I don’t get involved in that. I’m the bass player,” he told Rolling Stone in a new interview.
Earlier this year, drummer Brad Wilk announced that Rage Against the Machine would “not be touring or playing live again,” effectively signaling the end of the band. “I am sorry for those of you who have been waiting for this to happen,” Wilk wrote in an Instagram post on January 3rd. “I really wish it was…”
Until now, Ratm’s other three members had not addressed Wilk’s proclamation; in the case of Commerford, it was because he had nothing to add.
Asked by Rolling Stone if Ratm is indeed over, Commerford responded, “I don’t know. I don’t get involved in that. I’m the bass player. I just wait for...

Exclusive games have been a hot-button topic ever since the Xbox Official Podcast dropped on February 16, 2024, and sent the Microsoft community into a tizzy due to the information shared by Phil Spencer. Microsoft has acquired several companies in the past few years, with Bethesda being one of the bigger studios to come under Microsoft’s wing. With that, gamers knew that some of their favorite franchises, such as The Elder Scrolls and Rage, would become exclusive Xbox titles.
However, it appears the company is now changing its outlook on exclusivity, and we may see some games on the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.

Back in March of 2023, we reported on the death of the greatest boutique pop culture poster company, Mondo. Granted, the company still exists in name only underneath the Funko brand, but Mondo as we once knew it (including a majority of the founders and core staff that made the company possible) is over. Fortunately, a savior appeared in the form of ... the team that gave us Mondo in the first place and the wonderful weirdos (Elijah Wood and Daniel Noah) over at SpectreVision. Former Mondo creative directors Spencer Hickman, Eric Garza, Mitch Putnam, and Mo Shafeek joined CEO Jenny Jacobi to form the new company, Mutant, which will produce limited-edition artwork, posters, soundtracks on vinyl, collectibles, events, and more.
One of Mutant's first releases is the original motion picture soundtrack for "Lisa Frankenstein," so you can relive all the glorious, creepy '80s goodness whenever the urge to build your own undead boyfriend beckons.

Robyn, Fever Ray, and First Aid Kit are among more than 1,000 Swedish artists who have called for Israel to be banned from the Eurovision 2024 song contest.
The musicians signed an open letter calling for Israel’s ban from the 2024 competition, which is currently scheduled to host its finale in Malmö, Sweden on May 11th. In addition to Robyn, First Aid Kit, and Fever Ray, other signatures came from fellow Swedish artists, dancers, producers, and songwriters, including Axel Boman, Refused, Viagra Boys, DJ Seinfeld, and Kite.
Addressing the European Broadcast Union (Ebu), the letter outlines the collective artists’ frustration with the decision to let Israel compete in light of the ongoing war in Gaza. “The fact that countries that place themselves above humanitarian law are welcomed to participate in international cultural events trivializes violations of international law and makes the suffering of the victims invisible,” the letter reads.

Cher has joined the crop of fellow artists who’ve made their distaste for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame abundantly clear, saying in a recent interview that the folks behind the organization “can just go you-know-what themselves.”
The pop legend was a guest on a recent episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, during which host Clarkson pointed out that Cher has No. 1 hits spanning seven decades — a milestone she shares only with The Rolling Stones.
“It took four of them to be one of me,” Cher said with a laugh. “And I’m not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! You know what, I wouldn’t be in it now if they gave me a million dollars. I’m not kidding you. I was about to say something else — I was about to say I’m not shitting you. I’m never changing my mind. They can just go you-know-what themselves.

The sight of dogs ravaging war-torn streets has become an all too familiar sight. Sandra Tabet’s debut feature film “Rabies” (Rage) – a development project at the Atlas Workshops – returns to early 1990s in Beirut, in the aftermath of the Lebanese Civil War (1975-1990), when rabies began to spread rapidly amongst ravenous dogs, leading to some parts of the city being overrun.
Combining horror genre codes with a real-world setting, “Rabies” follows 60-year-old history teacher Julia, who tries to find a cure for her 30-year-old son Ghassan, who after being bitten by a rabid dog slowly transforms into a violent monster.
Having studied in Beirut and London, Tabet left Beirut in 2021 and moved to France.
With “Rabies” she aims to further her exploration of the horror genre, following her acclaimed shorts, “The Howl” (2017), and “Hell” (2021).

Looks like all that time spent jamming to Rage Against the Machine paid off: Olivia Rodrigo has earned a 2024 Grammy nomination for Best Rock Song, her first in that category, for “ballad of a homeschooled girl.”
You read that right: Much to the chagrin of dudes with an ego and a temper and a wandering eye, pop’s reigning princess has officially infiltrated one of the Recording Academy’s rock categories. “ballad of a homeschooled girl” will compete in the category against The Rolling Stones’ “Angry,” Queens of the Stone Age’s “Emotion Sickness,” boygenius’ “Not Strong Enough,” and Foo Fighters’ “Rescued.”
The garage-inspired “ballad of a homeschooled girl” appears on Rodrigo’s new album Guts, which also got 2024 Grammy nods for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album.

After an acclaimed festival run beginning with winning the 2023 SXSW Grand Jury Award earlier this year, writer/director Paris Zarcilla’s debut feature, Raging Grace, is set for theatrical release next month. A brand new trailer unveiled today highlights some of the bug-crawling nightmares unleashed in the “coming of rage” gothic horror story.
Brainstorm Media & Doppelgänger Releasing’s acclaimed horror film releases in select theaters on December 1 and will be available on demand December 8.
The film follows “Joy, an undocumented Filipino immigrant who is struggling to do the best she can for her daughter when she secures the perfect job: taking care of an extremely wealthy but terminal old man. The new position pays well and guarantees a roof over their heads. But very soon, Joy and her daughter Grace start to realize everything is not as it seems. Something is festering beneath the surface, threatening all they have worked for.

Sales agent M-Appeal has released the trailer for coming-of-age title “Vera and the Pleasure of Others,” which was written and directed by the Argentinian duo Romina Tamburello and Federico Actis. The film will have its world premiere at Black Nights Film Festival in Tallinn, Estonia, in the First Feature Competition, it was announced Friday.
“Vera and the Pleasure of Others” follows 17-year-old Vera (played by Luciana Grasso), who divides her days between volleyball, school and a secret hobby: she rents out an empty apartment to teenagers looking for a place to have sex.
She steals the keys from her distracted mother (played by Inés Estevez), who manages different properties, and organizes everything. The teenagers come and go, using the apartment for a few uninterrupted hours. Playing invisible, Vera stays behind the closed door; her own sexual desires unfolding as she listens to other people’s pleasure.

Thirty-eight years ago today, Mr. Snider went to Washington. A new graphic novel, Dee Snider: He’s Not Gonna Take It (due out Nov. 21), illustrates the fateful day the Twisted Sister frontman spoke in defense of free speech, alongside Frank Zappa and John Denver, at a Senate hearing regarding placing content-warning labels on album covers. Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello penned a foreword for the book paying tribute to Snider’s heroic spirit.

With Blaze back on the shelf, the Losers have finished their Richard Bachman run. To cap it off, they do what any self-respecting Constant Reader would do: argue and rank all seven of his novels. To recap, that includes: 1977’s Rage, 1979’s The Long Walk, 1981’s Roadwork, 1982’s The Running Man, 1984’s Thinner, 1996’s The Regulators, and 2007’s Blaze.
“Wait, fellas, who is this Richard Bachman,” you say? Hey, it’s a fair question, and for those in the dark, Bachman is the late pseudonym for world renown author Stephen King. Still lost? Good news: We’ve got an exhaustive primer episode on King’s alter ego that offers an A-to-z account of the fictional author. You can get it now in The Barrens (Patreon).
Stream the ranking below and return next week when the Losers unlock their interview with American author and feminist essayist Meg Ellison. For further adventures,...

Forgive the creaking hinges and fluttering moths, Constant Listeners. The Losers just cracked open Stephen King’s fabled Trunk, the one where he keeps all the inked-up pages he’s not yet ready to unleash upon the world.
It’s here where Blaze moldered for decades. Written in late 1972 and early 1973 on his wife’s Olivetti typewriter before he struck gold with Carrie, Blaze was published in 2007 under his alias, Richard Bachman. For now, it’s the last thing he’s published under the Bachman name. It’s also a book he thought “was great while I was writing it, and crap when I read it over.” Years later, though, its story of a slow-witted, small-time criminal’s ill-fated kidnapping plot felt salvageable to King, so he toned down the twentysomething schmaltz and used it as a means to raise money for the Haven Foundation.

Have you heard the one about the Mma fighter who helped mastermind the biggest heist in British history? Pat Kondelis did. Then the multiple Emmy winner turned the Lee Murray story into a captivating four-part documentary for Showtime. Catching Lightning, premiering April 9,is by turns sly, brutal, and quite funny, a very British crime story with a very dangerous man at its center. You might enter its cage wondering if it really needs to be four hours long, but chances are you’ll end up hanging on every bizarre turn and detail.

The slasher and the actioner seem like two disparate types of movies, however, both often feature a high degree of suspense, lengthy chases, and a lot of death. A slasher villain will hunt down hapless victims, whereas an action hero may go after one enemy or a whole group of them. Grisly kills and an assortment of weapons are also to be expected.
Now, there are some action movies that infuse more slasher elements than others. Classics like The Terminator and Predator are unmistakably modeled after slashers, but they’re not the only ones. Others take on the traits of slashers more than their peers, ultimately creating a more unique viewing experience.
The following ten lesser seen movies give action and slasher fans the best of both worlds.

Rage Against the Machine were just two shows into their 2022 Public Service Announcement Tour reunion tour when frontman Zack de la Rocha tore his Achilles tendon during a frenetic rendition of “Bullet in the Head.” He managed to soldier through the rest of the North American leg by sitting on a road case in the center of the stage, but they wound up cancelling the remainder of the tour so he could properly heal.
“I hate cancelling shows,” de la Rocha wrote in an October 2022 letter to fans. “I hate disappointing our fans.

When Rage Against the Machine canceled their remaining 2022 and 2023 tour dates due to singer Zack de la Rocha’s torn achilles tendon, fans likely assumed that the shows would be made up once he healed. However, in a new interview, guitarist Tom Morello suggests that the future of Ratm is uncertain, and that there’s a chance the shows may never be rescheduled.
After a couple of delays due to the pandemic, Rage Against the Machine finally kicked off their reunion tour last summer, with de la Rocha severely injuring himself during the second show of the outing.
While the singer soldiered on to play the remainder of their North American summer run while seated onstage, Ratm announced that their scheduled 2022 UK/European shows and 2023 North American dates were canceled to allow him time to heal.

Tom Morello has heard those Rage For the Machine jokes, and isn’t laughing. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the Rage Against the Machine guitarist made a point to clarify the vaccination policy for the band’s recent reunion tour, and also addressed the pricing of tickets.
“There’s a lot of ridiculous people who disapprove of Rage’s political outlook, who were not at the shows, who… just to be clear, no fans at any show in the history of Rage Against the Machine have ever had a vaccination requirement to be in the room. Ever. People say that and it’s just foolish,” Morello said.
Rage Against the Machine were originally supposed to tour in 2020, but pushed back their dates by two years due to the pandemic. The band never declared its own specific vaccination policy, but when they initially rescheduled dates in 2022 several states did...

Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello is the latest rock luminary to come to Meg White’s defense after music journalist Lachlan Markay called her “terrible.”
Markay’s criticism has faced a surmounting chorus of backlash led by Jack White, Questlove, Nandi Bushell, and many more. It all started when Markay replied to a tweet about the 20th anniversary of The White Stripes’ iconic song “Seven Nation Army.” In the reply, Markay unapologetically dragged Meg’s drumming ability while adding that “no band is better for having shitty percussion.”
Now Morello has weighed in with a passionate pro-Meg take on Instagram: “I hear there’s some controversy on this matter lately so let me set fools straight: #MegWhite is one of the greatest drummers in the history of rock n roll.”
He continued: “There are a Handful of drummers Ever who are Instantly recognizable rocking their Many Hit Songs with Flavor,...

I consider Lee Sang-il one of the best filmmakers working in the Japanese movie industry at the moment, with titles like “Villain” and “Rage” highlighting the fact in the most eloquent fashion. As such, that he had not shot another feature since the latter in 2016, came as a surprise. Thankfully, last year, we finally saw another work of his coming out, with “Wandering” not disappointing at all.

Donald Trump has found a new avenue to sue the media: Copyright.
Trump filed a lawsuit in federal court on Monday, alleging that Bob Woodward and his publisher, Simon & Schuster, needed his permission before releasing the audio book The Trump Tapes last year. The audiobook is a collection of 20 interviews that Woodward conducted with Trump.
“Said audio was protected material, subject to various limitations on use and distribution—as a matter of copyright, license, contract, basic principles of the publishing industry, and core values of fairness and consent,” according to the lawsuit (read it here). Among other things, Woodward interviewed Trump for his book Rage, released in 2020. The book was a bombshell, as Trump admitted that he wanted to play down the Covid threat in the early weeks of the pandemic.
The lawsuit names Woodward, Simon & Schuster and the publisher’s parent Paramount Global as defendants.

Put a bunch of narcissists in a big house with a lot of drugs and booze, a hurricane, a sword and more staircases than they know how to go up and down on, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.
This is the premise of Halina Reijn’s bloody satire “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” a movie that, not unlike its heroes, is often vicious if not a little empty-minded.
“Bodies Bodies Bodies” begins with a kiss, tongue and all: this is Sophie (Amandla Stenberg) and Bee, two young lovers going to meet the former’s best friends on a weekend upstate. Sophie warns Bee that her friends are not as bad as they seem, undoubtedly code for being worse than they look.

When he isn’t getting deep in his flavorful feels to Phoebe Bridgers songs, Guy Fieri, it turns out, loves himself some Rage Against the Machine.
The celebrity restauranteur, TV host, and one-and-only “Mayor of Flavortown” has been to at least three shows in a row on Rage’s long-awaited reunion tour. He first showed up at the band’s July 27 gig in Cleveland, Ohio, joined by his son, Hunter, and noted in a video that the two of them had been waiting their entire lives to see Rage Against the Machine in concert.

Fewer still would have expected this iteration of Nicolas Cage to appear on screen next to… Nicolas Cage.Seeing the Nick Cage of 2022 argue, fight and even make out with his 26-year-old self are the most outrageous meta moments of The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Tom Gormican’s smartly realised buddy film.

This is because the previous decade or so saw a new kind of appreciation for Nicolas Cage. Around 2010/11, the actor began to indulge his...

True, there was the less-than-stellar 28 Weeks Later which Juan Carlos Fresnadillo got behind the camera for, but moviegoers have long pined for a Danny Boyle-directed 28 Months Later. And now, at long last, it sounds like it might actually happen. And it could materialize sooner than you think.
According to sources close to Wgtc – the same ones who’ve delivered previous horror-based scoops to us like Bill Murray will return for Ghostbusters: Afterlife and a Swamp Thing movie is in the works, both of...
