Singer-songwriter Rashmeet Kaur, who impressed audience with her rendition of ‘Bajre Da Sitta’, has released a new song titled ‘Dil Khanjar’ which hit the airwaves on Wednesday on the occasion of World Music Day. What sets the song apart is the fact that it draws inspiration from the nostalgic vibe of 1990’s music and Sonu Nigam’s songs.
The 1990’s remain a memorable era in Indian mainstream music as the landscape for non-film music radically changed with the introduction of the private television channels in the mid-1990s. This was the time when indie pop was in all its glory.
Rashmeet’s song attempts to teleport the audience to an era gone by.
Talking about how the song came into existence, Rashmeet told Ians: “The inception of ‘Dil Khanjar’ stemmed from my good friend Danish Renzu, who conceptualised and directed the music video. He shared with me the incredible lyrics...

Rajasthani folk group Barmer Boys came to the Folk House, Bristol in early September. Their electrifying vocals stunned the audience who were transported to the desert and villages of Rajasthan. Everything about the performance was top notch. The showmanship, the charisma, the vocals, the tapestry of how they weaved the instrumental sounds together!
It was magical and clear to see that these boys are born to do what they do!
We had the opportunity to interview the Barmer Boys backstage before their Bristol gig. We also got the chance to speak to their agent Ankur Malhotra. This has to be one of the most fun and delightful interviews I have ever done. The Barmer Boys have a fantastic sense of humour, a genuine desire to perform with their hearts… and great taste in food!
So, who are the Barmer Boys?

Qurat-ul-Ain Balouch, popularly known as Qb, has made her debut in Bollywood with “Kaari Kaari.’ This heartfelt track from national-award winning director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s Pink is a harmonious marriage between Qurat-ul-Ain Balouch’s pristine, earthy voice, lyricist Tanveer Ghazi’s compelling heartfelt words and Shantanu Moitra’s invigorating melody.
Kaari Kaari is a delight to the senses and food for thought as it instantaneously transports and liberates you with your deepest thoughts, mediating between you and your soul. The lyrics perfectly bring out the plight of the characters and the boundaries from which they wish to break free. At the core of it, the song is about a woman’s fight against societal elements that attempt to curb her spirit, her feelings are beautifully expressed, at the same time her demand for emancipation moves you. Debutante Qb breathes life into the track and her passion touches the heart,...

Haminastu is sung by Zeb Bangash who is a Pakistani folk singer who we all loved, every time we listened to her on Coke Studio. After lending her voice for few Bollywood songs for the film Highway and Madras Café, singer Zeb Bangash has sung another beautiful song for the film ‘Fitoor’. She combines Turkish, Pashto lyrics and instruments in an beautiful synchronisation to the mainstream way. She starts this song with what sounds like Pashto lyrics and brings in strong Urdu lyrics in an urban mix of traditional instruments blended with a huge orchestra creating a mix of musical magic. Although the lyrics are deep and uncommon for a listener the melancholy of her voice of is so unforgettable in places that she can give one goose bumps. The ambience is really strong in this song with the use of Santoor and Rabaab and the Rabaab solo at the...

Director Kabir Khan is back with his second release of the year, Phantom, which centers around espionage and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks with Katrina Kaif and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles. Ensuring that the film is success is crucial, and this time there’s no Salman to help, so he’s recruited Pritam for the music.
To start off with we have Afghan Jalebi, which is the sure-fire hit song to get people hooked and while that’s a good strategy, there is really no need for four versions, which take more than half of the soundtrack with two additional songs to cover the bases. Let’s take a look at each one.
From the outset, Afghan Jalebi (Ya Baba) hooks you in with the fun guitar riff and clapping that will pepper this track throughout. Yet, it’s singer Asrar’s energetic vocals that make this original version worth singing along to,...

Cocktail‘s album has received superb audience reactions and with that we have seen four Pakistani talented singers making their debut in Bollywood soundtrack.
Cocktail is all set to releases yet another music video which will definitely have audiences craving for more. The latest music video ‘Jugni’, is a flipside of all the peppy and happening videos released so far.
Arif Lohar and Harshdeep Kaur have lended their voices for Jugni. The song is a traditional Punjabi track with western music. A perfect blend of music, lyrics and vocals has led to the creation of this soulful song. The song was originally designed by Rohail Hyatt and Arif Lohar for Coke Studio and is now an ideal adaptation to the movie.
The video shows all the three stars Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty taking probably the most confusing decisions. It portrays the turmoil one goes through when...

From the fun and exciting promos, Cocktail looks like a good romantic comedy that looks to appeal across the board. Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and debutante Diana Penty are the friends caught in ménage a trois of friendship and love in London. What caught everyone’s attention was some of that arresting music by Pritam that made sure ‘Tumhi Ho Bandhu’ stuck with you, and left you wanting to hear more. Pritam has also borrowed Honey Singh’s brilliant track ‘Angreji Beat’ which doesn’t come with the album, but the album would be incomplete without such a fabulous tune! Coming off a strong year of good and fun albums like Agent Vinod, and Ferrari ki Sawaari, Pritam definitely impresses here, and he can definitely be counted on to deliver some good songs for a romantic comedy like this one.
