Actually not bad, surprisingly
deedrala18 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
"You Can't Escape Me"

One of the very few LMN movies I've rated above 3 - other than the true crime ones which are usually very good.

Very few complaints with this as for the most part, it was well done. In a nutshell: unknown artist marries guy she's only known 6 months, and she soon finds out he's insanely possessive, jealous, and abusive. He ruins her one chance at her first gallery showing of her paintings due to his crazed jealousy over the gallery owner. So she ends up at an old friend's place in another state and starts a new life with a fake name, including self defense training in case he finds her and forces her to go back to LA with him against her will..

Main complaint: it might sound petty, but couldn't they have found an actor who was at least as tall as she was and not so thin and young-looking to play her new boyfriend? He was horribly miscast. An environmental lawyer? He looked more like a senior in high school. They didn't look right together at all.

Alex Trumble, who played the husband, is becoming one of the Lifetime regulars. I've seen him in a few other LMNs, playing both the villain and the sweet normal guy. He does well at both and he's actually good-looking too, unlike so many other Lifetime male leads.

Not bad, for a run of the mill psycho bad guy vs. Good girl LMN flick. This particular good girl refuses to be the psycho's victim by preparing for their eventual showdown.

Grade B- / 6 out of 10.

Can we actually try here
martinmatthewnovak21 February 2023
Lesss than a C quality movie. Once again I need to say if you want to waste sometime watching something this would be your movie. Also if you have been in any type of a abusive relationship don't watch this movie.

It clearly misses the point. This could have been a left lesson movie but instead it chooses to take a dark and stupid turn. I've seen what kind of abusive relationship is like and this just doesn't add up to that. I can't say much more but just don't waste your time with this film. The script and the acting is just bad. Hate to do this to the cast and crew but sorry they all wasted their time making a movie that makes me laugh more than have sorrow for a bad decision.

Typical lifetime film but JLo rip off
jokazaki9 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is a Lifetime film, meaning you shouldn't expect much as far as an award-winning motion picture goes. What bothers me about this film is it's too much of a rip-off of the film, Enough with Jennifer Lopez. From the self-defense training scene, to the final ending. In the beginning, there are a lot of similarities but the character herself are different. You have two insecure husbands. One is cheating, the other suspects his wife of cheating. They both get like this with a cell phone ringing. Protagonist now escapes her abusive relationship and runs away and changes her name. Not to say this doesn't happen in real life, but the movie itself has too many comparisons that are similar.

Legitimately one of the worst movies ive ever seen.
dbzz-0085513 September 2023
These people are lying to you saying its good. Terrible acting. Terrible writing. Terrible story with so many holes. Terrible lighting in half the scenes. Terrible directing. Worst cgi ive ever seen. And someone said the combat was accurate that's absolutely disrespectful to the sport of mma. Nothing done in the training montage is done remotely correct. Not one person had character growth. This movie also constantly acts like the main character can literally do nothing wrong. Please dont waste your time watching this. There is so many movies similar to this that are miles better in absolutely every category.

The Horrors of Patriarchy
lavatch19 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Erin Carver is a talented artist and a decent person who is on the receiving end of domestic abuse from her vile and controlling husband Jared. In college, Erin had two great friends in Susanne and Katie, where they became the three amigas. Now, Susanne and Katie come to the assistance of Erin in her quest to escape from her husband.

It was a stretch on the part of the filmmakers to imply that because Jared was an attorney, he could manipulate the legal system and control the police to prevent Erin from reporting him, filing a restraining order, and taking him to court for physical abuse. It was also unsettling that Erin would flee to the home of her neighbor Polly after being attacked and punched by her husband, only to have Polly phone Jared instead of phoning the police. What a neighbor!!!

Erin flees from L. A. to Portland, but Jared keeps tabs on her through a private investigator. It was surprising that Katie was so gullible that she fell for the private eye and believed that Jared was remorseful.

The film focused on the support Erin received from Cassie, the kind owner of a gym, who offered Erin instruction in self-defense. The scenes where Erin was training and the skills she acquired were extremely credible.

In the end, the film was successful in raising awareness about domestic violence. It also demonstrated the power of a support system, including the nice environmental attorney Miles, that enabled Erin to cope while living in purgatory and constantly sleeping with one eye open due to the horrors of patriarchy.

hell nah

I can truly say I disrespectfully despise this movie with all my heart, I do not recoment to watch at all, most wasted 20 mins of my life (closed the movie after 20 mins). First of all its full of drama, maybe if you love toxic drama its a movie for you, but if you want to be relaxed and just watch a movie with some friends or after a hard day at work, I DO NOT RECOMEND.

It just uses horrible acting, I am not an actor, but I think that it couldve presented the whole purpose of the movie, with some kind of catchlines, that actually would interest, WASTED 20 mins of my life, and I am wasting on this review aswell, Have a great DAY.

It was ok...

Warning: Spoilers
How stupid was Katie, and the neighbor (in the beginning)? Why in the world would they think they knew enough to play mediator as opposed to getting her some help?! Lifetime has stupid friends in these movies, but Katie is by far one of the worst. She almost died and could have gotten her friend killed. Erin comes to stay with her and she thinks Jared trying to "redeem" himself is reason enough for her to intervene? Reasonable or acceptable? Had Katie died, I would not have cared (sorry not sorry), but since she didn't, Erin should accept her apology but put some distance in their friendship. Suzanne was a MUCH better and smarter friend, so I'm glad she was around in the end.

This actress did another movie where she played an abused wife (something about In Love with My Partner's Wife I think), and this one is better. There's also a moviei with Damon Runyan with this similar storyline that is better than both in terms of story and tension. My only thing, and I am obviously not victim shaming, but from the dialogue, there were so many red flags that were seemingly there before their whirlwind marriage. For example, her getting rid of all of her personal banking accounts? IMO, that's worse and more dangerous than his comments on her wardrobe. Jared didn't have a personality beyond being an abuser and I guess that's the result of the movie getting things going pretty quickly.

I think the scene with Jared's parents was a bit of overkill. I could tell that we're supposed to see that he gets his behavior from his father, but his mother goes back and forth btwn normal and jittery/anxious. It was weird and obvious what's being implied. She also talked a lot for someone who is "afraid" of her husband.

Some things are just too on the nose. For example, the climax where he's taunting Erin about being bigger and stronger than her, and she uses all her new self-defense knowledge on him. There's an episode of Walker Texas Ranger, where an abused woman gets help from her self defense support group after she's attacked in the woods by her husband. It was great and much more realistic.

It's worth one watch at least. It took me a couple of tries bc I fell asleep in the middle (it was a holiday so I napped). It's not too PSA-like which is appreciated.

C+ quality remake of 'Enough' (2002)
thekhpro21 February 2023
It was basically a remake of 'Enough' (2002) starring Jennifer Lopez but it was shortened and a bit more boring version with average acting performance. Overall it's like 6.5-7. Worse than a soap opera
RobinFlys2 September 2023
I don't know why I watched this. The first five minutes told me how awful it would be. The dialog is so corny it's ridculous. Those are some pretty crazy fake reviews lol.

If JLo couldn't make this work, these clowns certainly can't. It's a shame they didn't give the lead to Madison Russ or Fidelia Grace.

(Further ranting to make the review word limit.) Alex Trumble was unbelievable as an angry abuser. I think even Erin could have taken him down. And what's up with that weird *ss neighbor Polly? Everything was just over the top. I think I gagged a couple of times. My last two words: dumpster fire.

don't waste your time
jcrelaford7 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The husband was corny and just didn't seem realistically abusive.....and him and those side bars with her...geezus.... I was 10 minutes in and I decided...nawwwww...enough is enough...it just didn't capture me...especially from the beginning......even his over the top jealousy and controlling ways were corny.... I could see my self back flipping this dude if he was my husband and putting him in a head lock...but then....for some women it doesn't take much to be scared.....it was just wayyyy to corny for me to continue watching.... I like reviews because it helps me to decide if I even wanna waste my time.

One of the best TV movies I've watched
Little_Tyke2 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I never hold out much hope for TV movies. They are usually so predictable. But "You Can't Escape Me" was excellent. Fast-paced, good dialogue, several attractive characters, especially the actress Fidelia Grace, whose character was naive and misguided, but eventually - almost too late - realised the error she had made. I could imagine the Carver father, a very influential lawyer, trying to take out some kind of civil lawsuit against the lead protagonist, Erin, for killing his son, even though it was totally self-defence on Erin's part. Gina Vitori, the actress playing Erin, must have had to put in quite a lot of physical effort in training up for this role, as the self-defence classes were very convincing. Maybe, hopefully, other abused women will take the hint and look into ways of protecting themselves. There were a few holes in the story. For example, how was Erin married for six months before any abuse started? The son, a psychopathic control freak, could not have tolerated six months without breaking into a rage far sooner. For once, the cops at the end behaved decently towards Erin, as often in TV movies they are a complete waste of space.

This Is A Movie, But Why...
nrrctggnyd17 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Why would you watch this movie? There is literally not a reason to punish yourself in that way. The producers and actors should be jailed for this film, it's an abomination, borderline terrorism.

The characters continually have dialogue with each other which eludes to information not known by that character yet. The special effects are that of children. The cinematography seems as if they filmed this movie with a toaster. Also, they constantly jump frames like this is a telenovela.

Here is a taste of the hard hitting story telling you'll receive, if you choose torture.

Two characters interact in the middle of the night because one of them had a dream of being assaulted. The "supporting friend" tells the abused housewife, "dont worry, I'll go make cookies".

My favorite scene was when the main character hops a city bus, that apparently makes stops in Portland, Oregon, yet the filmmakers CGI'd the bus ride... They didn't even buy a freaking bus ticket and put the character on it. Insane.

This movie is straight up insane. The fact that people spent their time making this, then reviewed it and thought, "this is good, I'll release this" is INSANE!

Actually, just go ahead and watch this movie, I did so now you should too. It's garbage, but the worst part is, is that people tried really hard and this is what came out. Some people suck, those people made this movie.

The basisc model scenario that there is a bad man that is violent and the angelic woman kills him at the end and that is ok. No all this produced culture is not ok even the way they portrait that it was murder. There are many cases about women that are violent and thousands false allegations - Also ENOUPH wit the plagiarism and same movies all over again and the bias Male hate because it is an easy thing to make as a movie. It was not enjoyable, the act was bad and the scenario the same with more that other 10 movies, except the race perhaps and the place. We say Enouph and get serious ,its time!

better acting atleast from the lead
LetsReviewThat2613 May 2024
This films best point is the acting and no I don't mean the rest of the cast, especially the friend she stays with when she moves as shes over the top. I mean erin herself gina vitori. Iv'e seen her in a movie called saurranded and seeing her here she was actually pretty decent/ her husband jared is a colossal dauche.hes abusive so she has to leave her good friend and mother behind and movie but of course its never going to be plain sailing. Erin also does really well at training in the gym. Theres nothing much else to say about this film. Erin was good and fun to watch its plot was decent and overall an ok film.

Same blooming actor
fishoffyoutrout11 May 2024
It's a shambles this main actor needs to get a life why is he in all the lifetime movies. This film needed more of a storyline and better plots. Why spend time watching such a over rated acting and full of mistakes and silly little actors. What is the point making these films if tech don't make it like a suspense. Who makes these films waste of time. Rather watch teletubbies 😆. Lifetime films some may have a good plot but are these just to put a slots in just for the sake of them. Look at him am not enough for you, understand get in the car sweetheart. He needs to be in boxing ring and shown how to be a loving man. His insecure and jealous his an absolute control freak.

Gina Vitori is a wonderful actress
hoops-5343619 February 2023
We had enjoyed Gina as Willa in "Deadly Girls Night Out" and as Eve in "In Love With My Partner's Wife." As Erin in this movie, Gina does an admirable job, showing a range of emotions. One of the things we liked the most was the scenes where she was working in the gym on self defense. Too many times in LMN movies, when they try to show a game or a sport, it is obvious that the actors portraying the athletes really have no ability in that sport or game. In this case, the scenes were very realistic. One must surmise that Gina is into that action in real life.

Alex Trumble does a credible job as the scumbag, although the bar for being a scumbag is relatively low.

You know that there is going to be a showdown and you are anxious to see the scumbag get his comeuppance. Does he? Watch this interesting movie to find out.

Moving on.
sheilakaur-110072 May 2023
Once you have been with a Narcissistis, lived in terror, you can't just move on to the next relationship!! It's takes time to come to terms with the mental torture.

You have hit rock bottom, petrified of your own shadow, trust in any kind of relationship,is questioned, you can not just trust anyone at face value again, your whole life dimension gets changed.

You may go on and try to take control of your life, I understand this was just a movie, but if you have lived through this nightmare, questioned everything and everyone who cross's your path, get yourself respect, strength and dignity back, only then can you move on.

Absolutely amazing performance especially from the neighbour Polly
furbster-5267724 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
What can I say! I watched this movie not thinking much, just for some background noise while I was trying to forgive and forget, but oh my was I hooked from start to finish. Impeccable performance from all the actors, but I was especially surprised by the realistic portrayal of the neighbour Polly who unsuspectingly turned out to be kind of evil. I was shocked when she revealed she had called the abusive husband to come pick up the terrified main character who was clearly distressed and not ready to see him. Also, the fact she never came back into the plot of the movie made me question why the scene was even necessary but then I realised it was because of the actors impeccable performance, the directors must've wanted her to have more screen time due to how on point her acting was. The plotwists in this movie were amazing, like that weird snitch friends boyfriend working for the psycho husband, I honestly would never have guessed it, if only he wore a better disguise and not some sunglasses and if they didn't place the introduction scene of him and the scene of him stalking the MC right next to each other... i would have been completely oblivious!

The only complaint I have about this movie is that it should have been longer, maybe more scenes with Polly? She was a really great actor, I would have loved to learn more of her lore. All in all a truly oscar worthy movie, I recommend this movie to literally anyone who has brilliant movie taste, if you love movies like American Psycho, Superbad, 21 Jump Street, Miraculous Ladybug the movie, Shrek the Third, Hubie Halloween, The Godfather, Diary of a Wimpy kid dog days, Falling Inn Love, Scooby Doo Monsters Unleashed, Garfield 2, Oujia Shark or Paul Blart Mall Cop 2, then this movie is straight up your ally! I assure you, lots of love to the amazing actors and director of this movie, pls continue making more like this!!
