Continuing their strides to create and tell compelling real-life stories, Vice Media has announced the launch of Vice Documentary Films, a new division of Vice Films that will produce feature-length documentaries from both established and up-and-coming directors around the world.
Expanding on the adventurous storytelling that the company is known for, the new projects will focus on character-driven stories about rebels, radicals and people on the margins of society. The new division will be led by Jason Mojica, who previously served as Editor-in-Chief and Executive Producer of Vice News, and Brendan Fitzgerald, who helped launch the Viceland cable channel as its Head of Development.
“You hear a lot of people saying that there’s never been a better time for documentaries, and it turns out that’s true,” said Mojica, Executive Producer of Vice Documentary Films. “Audiences are more interested than ever in non-fiction storytelling and there are more and more platforms serving it up.

Snoop Dogg takes on the one and only late reggae legend Bob Marley on Lip Sync Battle this week. For one of his songs on the Spike TV show, the rapper performed Bob Marley and the Wailers' 1980 hit "Could You Be Loved." Sporting a Rastacap and dreadlocks, Snoop Dogg also showcased his reggae dance moves. In 2013, the rapper released his first reggae album, Reincarnated, under the name Snoop Lion, and announced he had embraced Rastafarianism. "The reason why my album is called Reincarnated [is] 'cause I always felt that I was Bob Marley reincarnated," Snoop told Larry King. "So the whole purpose of the record was to...

The “Reincarnated” rapper did so well that he may have earned himself a new gig on the sidelines. “I was on Rich’s show during the season and he suggested that I be a part of the media for the Super Bowl.

Snoop Dogg aka Snoop Lion has released a new video for the song "Get Away" off his Grammy-nominated album Reincarnated. The album, nominated for "Best Reggae Album" was released April 23, 2013 and landed #1 on the Billboard Reggae Album Chart. The video pays homage to old school video games like Pokemon, Meta Slug and Zelda. The concept behind "Get Away" is simple, Snoop Lion must escape from his past to take on another chapter of his life. In order to do so, Snoop must fight off foes from his past, which was once filled with anger, crime, and brute force. "Get Away" was directed by Ashten "Whoopi" Winger of Cashmere Agency and animated by Mykola Dosenko.Snoop's journey during...

The artist formerly known as Snoop Dogg has released a new music video, teaming up with British singer Rita Ora for the single "Torn Apart."
The reborn reggae musician Snoop Lion worked with Ora on "Torn Apart," the latest single off of his last album, "Reincarnation. The video begins with Snoop and Ora cozying up at a bar, shot in a Instagram-esque vintage filter. The clip quickly changes to color footage of the duo on a tropical beach. Take a look at the music video to "Torn Apart" above.
Released in April, "Reincarnated" marked a departure for Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr. from his days of Snoop Dogg to Snoop Lion. The album, which focused on a reggae sound rather than Snoop's traditional rap vibe, was not one of his most commercially successful. "Reincarnated" peaked at No. 16 on the Billboard 200, following his earlier work which counted three No. 1 albums, one No.

Many fans were surprised by Miley Cyrus and Snoop Lion's recent collaboration, but according to the rapper (aka Snoop Dogg), the twosome made a perfect musical match. The 41-year-old performer chatted with E! News Saturday at the Guys' Choice Awards in Culver City, Calif., where he gushed over working with the former Disney star on their mellow reggae track "Ashtrays and Heartbreaks" from his new album, Reincarnated. "Wow. Miley Cyrus, working with her was awesome," he said with clear admiration. "She was somebody who fit the record, she had the right energy, the right spirit, the right soul and it's just the right tone right now." Snoop continued complimenting the...

Miley Cyrus released the first single off of her fourth studio album on Monday. Called "We Can't Stop," the track made its debut on Ryan Seacrest's radio show.
The mid-tempo track has Cyrus celebrating a night out with lyrics like "It's our party we can do what we want to," after a chorus of Cyrus singing "We can't stop." "We Can't Stop" was produced by Mike Will Made It, an artist best known for the strip club anthems he crafted for Juicy J ("Bandz A Make Her Dance") and Rihanna ("Pour It Up").
Cyrus has been hyping the track for weeks, starting a countdown to the song's premiere on her Twitter page.
Expected to hit stores later this year, Cyrus' next album will reportedly show a new side to the singer. The Disney alum made her name on pop hits such as "Party in the USA" but has been...

They may be an unlikely pairing- especially in the studio- but Snoop Lion and Miley Cyrus have joined forces for a new single and video called “Ashtrays and Heartbreaks.”

Mr. Lion leads off with an appropriate proclamation, “Tonight there’s gonna be a whole lot of smoke in the ay-air.”

Let's get to the point, let's roll another joint and let's enjoy the new music video from Snoop Lion -- "Ashtrays and Heartbreaks" feat. Miley Cyrus, a hip new reggae track that first debuted back in April.
The video shows Snoop and Miley mostly in reflections on windows in the Los Angeles area, singing about losing people and just generally sending positive energy out into the world, which is about what we'd expect.
It's an artsy video -- let us know your thoughts below.
"Ashtrays and Heartbreaks" is the lead single off "Reincarnated," Snoop's twelfth studio album and the first under his new moniker, Snoop Lion. The rapper's Rastafarian album is heavily influenced by Bob Marley, who Snoop says he is a reincarnation of.

Snoop Lion (aka Snoop Dogg) and Miley Cyrus’s video for “Ashtrays and Heartbreaks” pays homage to the ones who have left us. [More after the jump...] The reggae-inflected track from Snoop Lion’s new album, “Reincarnated,” is a loping number with an enigmatic video that takes place in a city with a spectral, track-suited Snoop dancing and smoking his way through some seeming conflict. He and Cyrus never appear together or in the main action of the video other than as projections on glass, puddles, etc. I’m not sure if the “full up all the ashtrays” is just another way of...

Snoop Lion, "Reincarnated" (Vice/Mad Decent/RCA Records)
It's not just a name change, but there's a new take on life for Snoop Lion, who switched his stage name from Snoop Dogg after a trip to Jamaica where he embraced Rastafarian culture.
And the new project works.
Snoop's first reggae album, "Reincarnated," includes some fine production by Major Lazer (aka Diplo), with guest appearances from Miley Cyrus, Akon, Rita Ora and Angela Hunte, who co-wrote the Jay-z hit "Empire State of Mind."
The rapper is still the marijuana-smoking, ultra-smooth Snoop we've all come to know and love. But he's also more focused on love and happiness, and not the gangsta raps he spewed in the past.
He sings against gun violence on "No Guns Allowed," which features rapper Drake and vocals from his daughter Cori B. The track is special because it shows how Snoop has matured as a musician...

Miley Cyrus was photographed smoking a suspicious-looking cigarette as she relaxed on the balcony of her Miami hotel with friends yesterday (April 6).
The 20-year-old singer and actress looked as if she just woke up, puffing on the rolled up cig while showing off her legs in a teeny bikini bottom. Cyrus tied her blonde cropped 'do up in a ponytail as she squinted before taking a drag with her ringless finger. That's right, Cyrus' engagement rock from fiance Liam Hemsworth was not present for the smoke session.
After possibly noticing the paparazzi snapping shots, Cyrus went "incognito" and slipped on a black beanie and sunglasses.
And oddly enough, Cyrus just released her new drug reference-infused song with Snoop Lion, "Ashtrays And Heartbreaks," which is a track off his new album Reincarnated.

The salvia-smoking, blunt-toking Miley Cyrus is leaving her teen queen image even further in the dust on “Ashtrays and Heartbreaks,” a new song on Snoop Lion’s (aka Snoop Dogg) new album, “Reincarnated.” The hazy, reggae-influenced track opens with Snoop Lion declared “tonight there’s going to be a lot of smoke in the air,” as he lifts a blunt for those no longer with us. That collaboration with Snoop Dogg (or Snoop Lion, rather) that Miley Cyrus teased recently? It's finally here.
Released Wednesday (April 3), the track, entitled "Ashtrays and Heartbreaks," will be featured on the legendary rapper's upcoming reggae-influenced album "Reincarnated."
"Tonight there's gonna be a whole lot of smoke in the air," the pair sing as the song opens. "Blow it hard for the ones who ain't here. Seems like every day we're putting more six feet under ground...What goes up must come down."
On face value, the lyrics come off as a bit heavy, but the smooth island vibe relaxes them as you listen.
Cyrus recently spoke with Ryan Seacrest about the collaboration, saying, "I did a song with Snoop and it's coming out very, very soon...I can finally say I'm going to have a song with Snoop coming very soon...He was in Europe when he was recording but...

Nothing like some nostalgic weed smoking to bring together a 20-year-old pop starlet from Nashville and a 41-year-old West Coast gangster rapper-turned-reggae mon! If that's your thing, you're luck: Miley Cyrus and Snoop Lion have teamed up for "Ashtrays and Heartbreaks," a song off the Lion's upcoming album, "Reincarnated."
It's a generally inoffensive tune that features both vocalists offering breathy reflections on lost loved ones. Some might accuse Snoop Lion of a certain inauthenticity, but let's be honest, if there are two people who are going to sing about pot, these aren't the worst choices.
If working on a reggae-lite album seems like a surprising move for Cyrus, consider the fact that she last made music headlines by appearing in a raunchy video for Borgore's dubstep song "Decision." She's nimble in this industry!

News that Snoop Dogg had taken a smoker's sabbatical from West Coast party rap was met with a healthy skepticism, bemusement and even derision when it first started making its way around the web last summer. But now, Snoop has settled into his newest incarnation: Snoop Lion, a peace-loving, violence-hating reggae artist who claims to be a descendent of Bob Marley.
His transformation was the subject of "Reincarnated," a Vice documentary that traced the 41-year-old rapper's trip to Jamaica and subsequent cultural baptism. The film offers a fresh look at Snoop, best known for hits like "Ain't No Fun" and "Drop It Like It's Hot," and makes up what it may lack in cohesion with tender glimpses at a man who appears to be pondering his place in the world.
The result of said introspection is a reggae album produced by Major Lazer and also titled "Reincarnated." The record features songs like "No Guns Allowed,...

As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, Drake and rival Chris Brown will both sing on Snoop Dogg‘s new Reincarnated album.
Drake is featured in an anti-violence song called “No Guns Allowed” and Chris collaborates with Snoop on the track “Remedy”.

Who would have thought that Drake and Chris would ever be on the same album? It appears that the one and only Snoop Dogg has reunited these feuding artists!
Drake and Chris Brown are collaborating? Not exactly, but the two both sing with Snoop Dogg on different tracks on his upcoming Reincarnated album.
Drake & Chris Both On Same Album
We thought hell would freeze over first but these two are putting music before their differences. Now that Snoop is “Snoop Lion,” the singer is coming out with a new album on April 23 called Reincarnated. On the tracklist is Drake, called “No Guns Allowed” it’s an anti-violence anthem.
Chris sings with Snoop on Remedy, also featuring Busta Rhymes. We’re not sure what this one is about — perhaps a love song?
Other artists on the album are: T.I., Akon, Rita Ora, Angela Hunte and more.

★★★☆☆ As far as Us rapper Snoop Dogg (now 'Snoop Lion') is concerned, he's in reassuring hands throughout new doc Reincarnated (2012) - a righteous Rastafarian riding on an overbearing wave of hallucinogenic happiness in the heart of Jamaica. Dogg's faded cousin even accompanies him on this augmented road to Jah's enlightenment. So far, so good for the superstar smoker. What may have been intended as the jewel in Reincarnated's crown is the involvement of first-time director and Vice cardinal Andy Capper, who utilises his progressionist nous to capture every moment of Dogg's gradual evolution into a higher form; into Lion.

If the South by Southwest Film Festival was burdened by anything this year, it was an abundance of quality documentaries. It seemed that, while the narrative side of things was surprisingly sparse (where was the "21 Jump Street" or "The Raid" of this year?), the documentary selection was stronger than ever – there were more buzzed-about entries than we had time for, quite frankly (sorry "Medora!"), and almost everything we saw impressed us to one degree or another. Here is a quick rundown of a handful of key SXSW documentaries – "Lunarcy!," about people obsessed with the moon; "Downloaded," which aims to be the definitive documentary about file sharing program Napster; "Twenty Feet from Stardom," which charts the history of pop music from the backup singers' point of view; "Reincarnated," about Snoop Dogg's transformation into reggae titan Snoop Lion; and "I Am Divine," about director John Waters' corpulent muse, cross-dressing sensation Divine.

Directed by Andy Capper (the director of Vice's Snoop Dogg/Lion doc "Reincarnated") and Juliette Eisner, "Lil Bub & Friendz" takes a look at the Internet's obsession with the feline species through all of the many kitty cats that have become Internet famous, but especially for one bow-legged, toothless kitty named Lil Bub. The film will premiere at next month's Tribeca Film Festival. Here are the film's three film homage posters: Check out the trailer below:...

With Peter Tosh's anthemic “Legalize It” blasting from the P.A., a cloud of smoke hovering above a smoldering crowd at makeshift club Viceland and one enterprising stoner taking hits of pot from a tube connected to a contraption stowed deep in his backpack, the people of Austin were ready for Snoop Dogg. Or, more appropriately, Snoop Lion, who brought his documentary film Reincarnated to South By Southwest for its U.S. premiere and closed out Thursday night with a high-energy performance inspired in large part by his love of reggae music. Editor's Note: This interview originally ran during the Toronto International Film Festival. "Reincarnated" opens in theaters in New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, and Austin today. An unlikely presence at this year's Toronto International Film Festival was the man formerly known as Snoop Dogg (and Snoop Doggy Dogg before that), Snoop Lion. Snoop was at the festival with a film that explains the rather epic story behind that name change, "Reincarnated." Directed by Vice Magazine global editor Andy Capper, the film depicts the professional and spiritual upheaval that Snoop experienced during a trip to Jamaica in which he would abandon his career as a hip hop artist and record his first reggae album. During his time in Jamaica, Snoop spent time with reggae legend Bunny Wailer. After sharing some smoke with Wailer in his home, Wailer enthuiastically dubbed Snoop "a lion!" And thus, Snoop Lion was born.

Austin, Texas -- In hip-hop terms, using three names in four decades qualifies as a sign of remarkable consistency.
So expectations were high when Snoop Lion, the rapper born Calvin Broadus who rose to fame in the gangsta rap 1990s as Snoop Doggy Dogg, emerged Thursday for the premiere of his new movie, album and identity.
For "Reincarnated," the documentary that made its domestic debut at the South by Southwest Film Festival, filmmakers followed Snoop to Jamaica, where he marinated in Rastafari culture. He emerged with the new name, plus a reggae album and a political agenda.
Some of his views marked more of a departure than others. In the song "No Guns Allowed," for example, he renounces gunplay.
"Anti-bad things," said the film's director, Andy Capper, "whereas before he celebrated the bad things."

Snoop Dogg has had a change of heart. In the documentary, “Reincarnated,” about the making of his new reggae-influenced album of the same name, he explains that he felt the need to put positive energy and love into the universe through his music. “There’s so much negativity and death and destruction that we need to match that with peace, love and happiness, as opposed to matching that negative with a negative,” he tells HitFix. As the documentary, which opens Friday, chronicles, Snoop Dogg, now known as Snoop Lion, goes to Jamaica to record “Reincarnated” with production duo Major Lazer at the...

Oz The Great And Powerful (PG)
(Sam Raimi, 2013, Us) James Franco, Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Zach Braff, Joey King. 130 mins
Putting adjectives like "great" and "powerful" in your title is asking for trouble, but then "expensive" and "underwhelming" probably didn't fit on the poster. Raimi's prequel apes the original Wizard Of Oz in many respects, but refuses to stoop to camp comedy, or song-and-dance or anything too childish. As a result, this green-screen tribute to smoke and mirrors feels decidedly short on magic.

The 2013 Tribeca Film Festival has the honor of hosting the world premiere of "Lil Bub & Friends," a documentary that explores the phenomenon of Internet cats and memes through the tale of Lil Bub's rise to online fame.
You've seen Lil Bub before (and probably a lot) — she's the wide-eyed "perma-kitten" who's won the love and attention of the Internet with her collection of memes that inspire perseverance and positivity in the face of hardship.
Starring Lil Bub, Grumpy Cat, Nyan Cat, Keyboard Cat and the Internet as Itself, "Lil Bub & Friends" chronicles Lil Bub's journey to stardom, the world of "cat people" through the first-ever Internet Cat Video Film Festival and the ultra-virality of cat-related videos and memes. The film is co-directed by Andy Capper and Juliette Eisner; Capper recently directed "Reincarnated," the documentary about Snoop Dogg's rebirth as "Snoop Lion.

Gangs Of Wasseypur Part 2 (18)
(Anurag Kashyap, 2012, Ind) Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Zeishan Quadri, Aditya Kumar, Huma Qureshi. 160 mins
It's over five hours long in all, but there's barely a slack moment in this exhilarating Indian epic as it races through generations of smalltown criminal, industrial and political enmity. Yes, it's violent, but like all great crime stories it's also a vibrant tapestry of family life and modern history, closer to Leone, Coppola or Tarantino than Bollywood.
Stoker (18)
(Park Chan-wook, 2013, Us/UK) Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode. 99 mins
The Oldboy director gives us a sensual, tantalisingly ambiguous thriller, centred on Wasikowska and her shifty smalltown family.

(Nicholas Jarecki, 2012, Us) Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, Brit Marling.

Snoop Dogg Lion released a new video for "Here Comes the King," a Diplo-produced track off the upcoming "Reincarnated" album.
"Here Comes the King" is the second song off disc to get a visual; The "La-la-La" video explained Snoop's transition from a West Coast rapper to the reincarnation of Bob Marley (Snoop's words, not ours).
Honestly, there isn't that much to the new video. Snoop does his thing in front of the camera, with some dancers and flag-bearers behind him. A closer look at his midlife change can be found in the documentary "Reincarnated," which hits theaters in select U.S. cities Feb. 15.
Until then, here's some Snoop Dogg. Shouts to Long Beach.

Some of the best films of the 2012/2013 calender year from Richard Linklater, Harmony Korine, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Andrew Bujalski, Jeff Nichols, David Gordon Green, Shane Carruth and Joshua Oppenheimer are among the headliner names for the 2013 edition of the South by Southwest Film Festival.
