Some great short filmmakers will be strutting their stuff at the 3rd annual Razorblades In Your Reese's short film fest, a free event taking place at La's Downtown Independent on Halloween (Wednesday October 31). One name to watch on this year's slate is Swedish director Adam Berg, creator of the Philips Carousel commercial. Berg is set to make his directorial debut with Universal's upcoming remake of Cronenberg's Videodrome. Both The Ruins director Carter Smith and John E. Bryant, best known for his SXSW feature The Overbrook Brothers, will have shorts in this year's lineup as well. Razorblades has become a good place to spot young talent. Past fest's have included works by Jason Eisener (Hobo With A Shotgun), Rodney Ascher (Room 237), and Spencer...

Swedish commercial/video director Adam Berg was at one point attached to direct the Deadpool movie for Fox as a result of his work on Carousel, a commercial he directed which took home the Cannes Lions International Advertising prize.
Now comes word that the freeze-frame short earned him the respect of Universal Pictures to direct the big-screen remake of David Cronenberg’s 1983 masterpiece Videodrome (You know, a lowly cable TV operator begins to see his life and the future of media spin out of control in a very unusual fashion when he acquires a new kind of programming for his station).
However, another first timer, Tim Miller, got the job, but Deadpool has been stuck in development hell for years now.
On the other hand Universal has been developing a remake of Videodrome since at least 2009 and all we knew is that Ehren Kruger had been engaged to write the new script,...

David Cronenberg’s Videodrome ranks pretty high on the list of “films we never want to see remade,” but you can’t always get what you want – and Universal is one step closer to bringing “the new flesh” to an entirely new audience. Deadline reports that the studio has opened talks with director Adam Berg in hopes of hiring the short film and commercial filmmaker to helm the updating of Cronenberg’s 1983 cult classic. If he accepts the job, he’ll be building a film based on an updated screenplay from scribe Ehren Kruger. Berg is an award-winning commercial director, having won the Film Grand Prix at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival for his ad “Carousel” for Philips. That’s great, but it...

After making "Cosmopolis" together, Robert Pattinson and director David Cronenberg talked about re-teaming for a remake of Cronenberg's "Videodrome." Apparently that won't happen, but the "Videodrome" remake is moving forward. Commercials helmer Adam Berg, who is behind the "Carousel" short and was set to direct Ryan Reynolds in "Deadpool," in now in talks with Universal Pictures to make his feature directing debut on the "Videodrome" remake that has been written by Ehren Kruger (Transformers: Dark of the Moon). Pattinson is not attached to the project. James Woods starred in the original film as the head of Civic TV Channel 83. He makes his station relevant by programming Videodrome, a series that depicts torture and murder that transfixes viewers. The remake will modernize the concept and become a large-scale sci-fi action thriller. "Carousel" Short:...

Back in 2010, when news of Ryan Reynolds-starring Deadpool feature was still interesting, Swedish commercials and music video director Adam Berg emerged as an unexpected candidate to helm the feature. Though Berg had never directed a film, he was lauded in the commercial and music video arenas, and had already earned the Film Grand Prix at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival for his Philips ad Carousel. While Berg didn’t get the job (it now belongs to Tim Miller), it seemed inevitable that he would eventually use his talents for a big, splashy feature debut. And how. Deadline Hollywood reports that Berg is currently in talks for that Videodrome remake no one saw coming that has somehow been penned by Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Reindeer Games scribe Ehren Kruger. Pardon me? While the involvement of Kruger and the reported plans to “modernize the concept, infusing it with the possibilities of nano-technology and blow it...

The name Adam Berg might not be immediately familiar to you, but chances are you've heard it before. Though he hasn't made a feature film yet, the Swedish director created the acclaimed short film Carousel back in 2010 (watch it here) and was also in talks to direct Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool film before VFX artist Tim Miller ultimately scored that gig. Now Deadline reports that Berg will take on another high profile project for his feature debut: the remake of David Cronenberg's 1983 classic Videodrome, which has been in the works since 2009 with Transformers: Dark of the Moon scribe Ehren Kruger writing. More below! It's useless to complain about a remake of Cronenberg's film because it's happening whether we want it or not, but Come On, Hollywood: show some originality. The original, which starred James Woods as a sleazy TV executive who programs a series called "Videodrome" on his network...

With so many remakes being announced on an almost daily basis, it's no surprise that a lot of them end up getting lost in the shuffle and never make it to the big screen... which in many cases, is probably a good thing. Indeed, if one of your favourite movies gets targeted for a redo, there's always a chance that the project will just quietly fade away, never to be heard from again. When Universal first announced a remake of David Cronenberg's Videodrome way back in 2009, I felt confident and hopeful that it would fall into this category. The original is far too strange and abstract to make sense as a big budget mainstream film. Alas, this time around Hollywood has proven me wrong and Universal has just hired Swedish commercial director Adam Berg to make the movie his feature debut. According to Deadline, Berg is fairly well-known in...

It had been rumored for years. You didn’t want it to happen. Here we are.
Sadly, Deadline reports that Swedish music video director Adam Berg is Universal’s choice for Videodrome, their controversial remake of David Cronenberg‘s seminal body horror feature. If you love that film (the odds certainly aren’t low), it’s possible your skin’s started to crawl like a late-night viewer of Channel 83 — but it gets worse.
As was unbeknownst to yours truly until reading this story, it turns out Ehren Kruger (Transformers 3, Scream 4) has already written a screenplay which will “modernize the concept [by] infusing it with the possibilities of nano-technology and blow it up into a large-scale sci-fi action thriller.”
Do I even have the time or energy to explain how that goes against Videodrome? No, not really. You should have some idea yourself; if that, however, is not the case, go...
