ABC‘s Secrets & Lies gives away the main thrust of the story with the gimmick itself, leaving the ten-episode dramatic effort to keep viewers interested with… well, all the secrets and lies. The trick here being that some of them aren’t actually either.
Similar to such popular, recent efforts as Broadchurch (Gracepoint), this is another reworking of a foreign show. This one, like The Slap, an effort from Australia.
The show opens with Ben Crawford (Ryan Phillippe) sprinting out of the woods to get help after he finds the body of a small boy, Tom Murphy. Tom was not just his neighbor’s son, but a boy Ben knew well, as his daughter regularly babysat him.

Phillip Noyce.s Rabbit- Proof Fence may seem to have nothing in common with his latest film, The Giver, a dystopian sci-fi drama which stars Jeff Bridges, Meryl Steep, Brenton Thwaites, Katie Holmes and Taylor Swift.

Aussie actor Brenton Thwaites ("Maleficent," "Blue Lagoon: The Awakening") has scored the lead role in the film adaptation of Lois Lowry's 1993 children's dystopian novel "The Giver."
The story is set in a society where pain has been eliminated through adhering to a plan known as the Sameness.
Thwaites plays a young man named Jonas who is selected as the next Receiver of Memory—responsible for the collective consciousness from before the Sameness.
He receives these memories from The Giver (Jeff Bridges). In the novel, Jonas is aged 12 so the role has to be aged up as Thwaites turns 24 this year.
Shooting begins this Fall in South Africa.

Total Recall Apparently the extended cut of Total Recall found on the Blu-ray is 12 minutes longer than what was shown in theaters. Thinking back on my theater experience I don't remember a problem with narrative gaps as much as I had a problem with the film's general ability to steal every single second of said narrative from previous films. I wonder of director Len Wiseman found a way to work even more scenes stolen from other sci-fi films into the running time. I guess I'll never know. You can, however, revisit my "D-" theatrical review right here.
Arbitrage This was a pretty good film. I think it's being propped up a bit higher than it necessarily deserves, but it's solid, and worth a rental. You can read my theatrical review here.

1.) After first surfacing on a shortlist comprised of young actors and actresses practically no one has heard of, Nicola Peltz and Brenton Thwaites have emerged to score the lead roles in Transformers 4. Peltz (The Last Airbender) will play Mark Wahlberg's daughter, while Thwaites, best known for the Lifetime movie Blue Lagoon: The Awakening, will play her racecar driving boyfriend. Twitch 2.) I thought the idea of a Salt sequel had been put to rest, but it turns out the producers were just taking their time finding the right screenwriter. Kurt Wimmer, who wrote the original, actually turned in a script for the sequel last year, but Angelina Jolie didn't think it was up to snuff. The producers then launched a year-long search for a new writer, who they now seem to think they have found in Becky Johnston, writer of the very un-Salt-y Seven Years in Tibet and The Prince of Tides.

With Mark Wahlberg confirmed to lead the mega-franchise, Michael Bay started his search for the new young leads that will help the kiddies decide which toy they want most from the upcoming "Transformers 4." And it looks like a decision has been made, and no, you probably never heard of them, and shockingly, neither is a Victoria's Secret model either. Twitch reports Brendon Thwaites (huh?) and Nicola Peltz (who?) have landed the two other main lead roles alongside Wahlberg. If you watch Lifetime, you might recognize the Aussie Thwaites from "Blue Lagoon: The Awakening," or perhaps you're a fan of the soap "Home & Away." As for Peltz, she's just glad "The Last Airbender" won't be her cinematic legacy. But at the end of the day, these are two very affordable young stars that Paramount won't be breaking the bank for, and it's a nice opportunity for these actors to get a...

Peltz beat out Isabelle Cornish (sister of Abbie Cornish), Margaret Quallay (daughter of Andie Macdowell) and Gabriella Wilde (Carrie). Meanwhile, Brenton Thwaites ("Blue Lagoon: The Awakening") has been cast as the boyfriend, the male lead who is a racecar driver. The actor beat Luke Grimes (Taken 2), Landon Liboiron ("Terra Nova"), Jack Reynor (The Delivery Man) And Hunter Parrish ("Weed") for the role. 1.) Having already set Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) to play Mary-Jane Watson, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 helmer Marc Webb has now turned his attention to finding a young actor to play Harry Osborn. The character was played by James Franco in Sam Raimi's trilogy of Spider-Man films, and now three candidates have emerged: Alden Ehrenreich, Brady Corbet and Dane DeHaan. Ehrenreich has starred in Tetro and Twixt for Francis Ford Coppola and will soon be seen in Stoker and Beautiful Creatures. Corbet's credits include Melancholia and Martha Marcy May Marlene. DeHaan is probably the most recognizable of the three after a big 2012 that had him starring in Chronicle and Lawless, as well as appearing in Lincoln's cringe-worthy opening scene. The part originally called for an actor with a bigger, more athletic build, but has since morphed into a more of a "dark and edgy" role. Anyone have a horse in this race?...

Before any official announcement for "Transformers 4" was made it was rumored that Mark Wahlberg was in talks to star and that the story would center around a high-school girl and her boyfriend, a racecar driver. It turned out that both rumors were accurate. Wahlberg is already on board and Michael Bay has now started the search for the other two leads. Testing for the role of the high school girl, who is actually the daughter of Wahlberg's character, are Isabelle Cornish (sister of Abbie Cornish), Nicola Peltz (The Last Airbender), Margaret Quallay (daughther of Andie Macdowell) and Gabriella Wilde (Carrie). Testing for the role of the boyfriend are Luke Grimes (Taken 2), Landon Liboiron ("Terra Nova"), Brenton Thwaites ("Blue Lagoon: The Awakening"), Jack Reynor (The Delivery Man), and Hunter Parrish ("Weeds"). Whoever is hired will have to sign contracts for three films, which means that Paramount Pictures is planning an entirely new "Transformers" trilogy.

As co-creator Brad Falchuk told Zap2it at Comic-Con, the New Directions' first priority in the fall is to replenish their ranks. Because the number one rule of any TV show is to make your cast as delicious and sexy as humanly possible (see: The Vampire Diaries, Teen Wolf, Gullah Gullah Island), you might be impressed to discover that the two new guys that'll be swapping spit with the insanely batshit crazy ladies of Glee are so freakin' hot they make Cory Monteith look like an abused loaf of rotten bread. Spoilers here: Dean Geyer, who came in third place on Australian Idol in 2006 and then did a stint on the failed Terra Nova, will play Brody Weston, a Nyada upperclassman who will want the inside of Rachel's mouth all over his body. Meanwhile, Jacob Artist from, um, Blue Lagoon: The Awakening, will play Puck's younger half-brother Jake because of course Puck had a younger half-brother Jake this entire time, Of Course He Did. The two will join a cast that's now more inflated than ever,...

Aussie actor Brenton Thwaites made his stateside debut in Lifetime's original movie "Blue Lagoon: The Awakening," but you'll be seeing more of him in the future -- he's been cast as Prince Charming opposite Elle Fanning and Angelina Jolie in the 2014 sure-to-be-blockbuster "Maleficent."
When Zap2it caught up with Thwaites on June 13, he was preparing to fly to London to start production on the Disney film.
The affable actor is the type of person who gets along with everyone -- must be that friendly Australian personality -- and had only good things to say about his future costars. Fanning, he thinks, is one of the best actresses of her generation. "She's lovely," he says. "She's such a cool girl. I think she's one of the best young girls out there. She has such a mature presence on screen, and I think she'll be great. I'm really excited."

Generally, approaching Lifetime's made-for-tv movies with low expectations is the most prudent road to take. That way, you can laugh at the hilariously poorly written dialogue and improbable situations without being disappointed. But sometimes that approach backfires -- like when the movies are highly enjoyable and eminently watchable without any major flaws, like "Blue Lagoon: The Awakening."
The reboot of the 1980 camp classic "The Blue Lagoon," about two Michigan teens (Indiana Evans and Brenton Thwaites) who get stranded on a deserted island together, had all the elements of an awesomely bad Lifetime flick: island setting, distraught mother (played by a great Denise Richards), teens discovering their sexuality. It's a remake of a campy movie to begin with, so it's not like you're expecting Shakespeare. Or even Nora Ephron.
But, much to our surprise, the dialogue was less wooden than normal, the acting was (mostly) believable, and the slow-mo montages were...

You might not know Brenton Thwaites' name now, but you certainly will a year from now when he plays Prince Charming in the Angelina Jolie/Elle Fanning film "Maleficent." But if you want an early introduction to the young Australian actor, he stars alongside fellow Aussie Indiana Evans in Lifetime's "Blue Lagoon" remake, "Blue Lagoon: The Awakening."
Thwaites stars as Dean, a slacker high-schooler who winds up on a deserted island with his goody-goody classmate, Emma, after an accident on a school trip to Trinidad. Ready for Blue Lagoon, the 2012 version? Lifetime is hoping so as it readies the premiere of Blue Lagoon: The Awakening, with Australian actors Brenton Thwaites and Indiana Evans in the main roles. Based on the 1980 film which introduced Brooke Shields to audiences (and Milla Jovovich more than 10 years later in the followup), the story takes a modern spin on the premise: two high schoolers find themselves stranded on a tropical island, are forced to rely on each other for survival and in term discover their true selves. It seems as though Sleeping Beauty has finally found her Prince Charming. New reports peg Aussie Brenton Thwaites as the prince who will break Maleficent's spell on the young princess in Disney's upcoming recreation of the classic "Sleeping Beauty" fairytale, "Maleficent."
Deadline has the news, saying that Thwaites is set in the role. He's largely unknown to American audiences, though he'll be making his breakout role on Us television sets in the upcoming Lifetime Channel movie "Blue Lagoon: The Awakening."
Thwaites is joining an already star-studded cast. His love interest Aurora (aka Sleeping Beauty) will be played by Elle Fanning, while Angelina Jolie is still set to play the titular queen who will seek to drive them apart. Juno Temple, Imelda Saunton and Lesley Manville will play the three pixie fairies who take care of Aurora while she is banished from the castle and living in a cabin in the woods.

What good is a fairy-tale princess story without a Prince Charming? Even Kristen Stewart.s action-charged Snow White needs a Huntsman to lure in the young male demographic. So Disney has wisely added a prince to its pending Maleficent, a fantasy thriller that already has Angelina Jolie in the title role. Deadline says that the coveted prince part has gone to Brenton Thwaites, a relative newcomer from Australia who has a few television series to his credit including Sea Patrol, Home and Away and the recent TV movie version of Blue Lagoon that aired on the Lifetime Network. Needless to say, this is a major break for Thwaites, who.ll star alongside Jolie in a story centered around the evil queen from the classic Sleeping Beauty fairy tale. Earlier, we confirmed that Disney had landed Elle Fanning (Super 8, We Bought a Zoo) to the production as Princess Aurora, meaning...

Newcomer Brenton Thwaites joins Angelina Jolie in Disney’s Maleficent.
Thwaites’ resume is looking a little light but everyone has to start somewhere, and appearing in a Disney film that happens to star Angelina Jolie as the title character is a great way to add a boost to the career… as long as the talent is there to back up the luck. The Aussie actor has appeared on TV in a series called Home and Away and the Lifetime Channel movie, Blue Lagoon: The Awakening, which shows the guy was either desperately in need of cash or desperately in need of some decision-making skills.
