Perhaps not as smart as it thinks it is, but still impacting (even if the nature of the conclusion reveals the focus of the film's conception) (MAJOR SPOILERS)

Warning: Spoilers
A young woman escapes an abusive kidnapping, but is traumatized to the point she cannot remove her blindfold. She stumbles into the home of a woman who herself has just undergone a trauma and is on the point of suicide. Together the pair identify possible ways to help the other overcome their trauma and have the closure they need.

To avoid the IMDb censors, I will not repeat my reaction to the person who recommended this short film to me, although it was brief and brutal. This response was perhaps understandable because the film itself could be described in the same way as my text message language was. There is also a certain smartness to the film, however to get to it we first need to get over the convenience of the setup – which sees a blindfolded girl able to escape and find her way by chance to the house of a woman about to kill herself (who then does not alert the authorities, or worry about how close the kidnapper must be to her location etc, but instead welcomes her into her home). From here we see the woman try to help the girl confront her abuser by proxy, since she is blindfolded it is easier to pretend.

On a psychological level this does hold out some interest, but ultimately the film does betray this a little bit by the way it ultimately ends. Unavoidable to discuss without SPOILERS, so in the end both parties get their wish when the girl beats the woman to death, the former picturing her kidnapper, the latter taking the punishment she feels she is owed for what she did. This sequence is interesting in the cathartic of what we see happen, but at the same time it is brutally violent, bloody, and disturbing. The sequence is probably 20 seconds long, but feels like it goes on forever; the sound is great – making it feel more violent, and visually we are spared little. It is very hard to watch and the film feels like it wallows in this sequence a bit too much – which does make it feel like it was always the centerpiece of the film when it was being written, and thus the rest was just necessary to get to that point. This doesn't totally detract from the rest of the film, but it does a little bit.

It is still an interesting and memorable viewing experience, with the ending in particular being one you'll not forget in a hurry.
