- Ben and Addison find themselves in San Francisco during the historic 1989 earthquake. As the city continues to crumble with aftershocks, Ben must try to mend a family in chaos. Jenn and Ian search for clues to an unsettling mystery.
- Ben jumps into a man in 1989 San Francisco, and has to deal with the man's wife threatening divorce, his son gone AWOL, and the San Francisco earthquake, all happening on the same day. Along the way, Ben is plagued with memories of the time he disappointed his own mother and ran away.—Gislef
- Ben Leaps, and Addison returns to the project. The team knows what happened with Ben and the other Leaper, and Ian suggests the Leaper is traveling through time just like Ben, and he's using similar technology. Addison wonders if Ben Leaped to follow the man.
Ben manifests in a man's body, in a bar and across a table from a woman who is talking about how she barely after she saw her father. She says that she took the job at St. Luke's, and asks "john" if he's listening to her. Ben confirms that they're in San Francisco, and the woman Naomi, says that she's been killing herself trying to make their marriage work but now she wants a divorce. Ben sees a game playing on the TV, and has Naomi confirms that it's 1998. He says that the game on TV is going to be canceled, and they have to go immediately because everything is going to collapse around them.
He yells at everyone to go as the building shakes. They run out and find there's chaos on the streets as an earthquake shakes San Francisco. Ben and Naomi dodge falling debris and the quake stops, and Naomi how Ben knew the quake was going to happen. Ben says that he just remembered it, as a woman yells for help for her injured husband. Naomi goes over to help while Ben goes to look for help.
Ben waves down an ambulance, but they keep driving. Addison appears and Ben asks who the man in Salvation was, and Addison says that they think he's another Leaper. She admits that they don't have an answer, but like Ben they figure the man is also a Leaper. Addison tells Ben that he has to focus on where he's at and the earthquake, while they focus on the last Leap. She checks with Ben and confirms he leaped into John Harvey, and she's having trouble getting a reading. Naomi comes up and says that she got the man stabilized, and they have to get home and make sure their son Jason is okay. Ben tells her to lead the way, and Addison tells Ben that she'll meet him at his house.
Addison emerges from the imaging chamber and Ian gives her an older hand link while he repairs hers. The meet with Magic and Jenn, and Jenn figures that either a foreign government got hold of the schematics for the Project, or a private company is behind it, or someone is using their facility to Leap. They eliminate the first two options, and Jenn points out that someone in the future could be using the Project. Magic tells them to use Ziggy and find out what they're dealing with.
Ben and Naomi return home and find Jason not there. Naomi goes to a neighbor to check on their son, and Addison appears and says that the team doesn't have any answers. Ben wonders if his parents are still together, or alive, and Addison tells them that they aren't. She says that Ben's mother raised him alone and died when he was in high school. Ben remembers being a child and his mother speaking to Korean, and tells Addison that he remembers his mother and her cooking, that made him safe. That's all he can remember, and Addison says that there were a lot of things about Ben that were a mystery to him. He asks if Addison was close to her parents, and she says that it's complicated, but they are both alive.
Ben finds a wastepaper basket with a torn up photo of John and Naomi. He points out that he got the impression from Naomi that Jason didn't know about their break up. Addison checks on Jason's location, and discovers that Jason died in the earthquake's aftermath. She figures Ben is there to save Jason.
At the Project, Jenn shows Magic a photo of the Leaper and she explains that she pulled it from the imaging chamber feed. She shows Magic a diorama about how they can monitor Ben in the past, and Addison sees Ben in the past. If the other Leaper leaped into a cowboy, they'd still see the other Leaper with his real name, run his face through the NSA database, and identify him.
Ian runs a check on the database, and warns Magic and Jenn that it could take a week. They get a hit in a few minutes, and they identify the Leaper as Richard Martinez, a Marine who is stationed at Camp Pendleton. Magic has Jenn call Pendleton and confirm Martinez there, while Ian pulls Addison and has her confirm she saw Martinez.
Ben and Addison go to look for Jason, and Ian checks with Ziggy and confirms the computer thinks there's a 95% chance Ben is there to save Jason, so Jason must still be alive. He tells Addison to step out. Before she can, Nomi joins Ben and says that the neighbor said Jason was upset and left. Ben shows Naomi the photo, and Naomi says that she was on the phone with a lawyer and Jason must have overheard him. After assuring Naomi that they'll find him, Ben asks if she knows where Jason might have gone. She says that Jason has been closer to Ben since they moved, and Ben figures that they moved from Oakland based on an A's baseball cap he found in the house. Ben deduces that Jason is going to their old place in Oakland. Addison checks the database and confirms that the old apartment collapsed in the quake, in a half hour. She suggests that the BART is the only way to get there, and they can walk along the track. As Naomi and Ben go to the BART, Addison leaves the imaging chamber.
At the Project, Ian shows Addison the picture of Martinez. She confirms that was the man who confronted Ben, and Jenn has found out Martinez is currently on leave, visiting his mother. Magic goes to see Martinez, and Addison tells the team that Martinez is remembering more.
Ben and Naomi make their way to the BART, and she wants to talk about Oakland and how Ben wanted them to move from Oakland. She thought the job would get them to a better place, but it cost Jason everything. Ben remembers feeling the same when his mother moved them to the States, and he tells Naomi that she did what she thought was best for the family. Naomi isn't convinced, and says that when she isn't working, Jason is angry at her. An aftershock hits and a woman calls for help.
Magic and Jenn go to the home of Martinez's mother, and Magic figures that they should get Martinez talking. He answers the door and Magic identifies himself, and Martinez figures that it's about special ops a secret mission. Martinez says that he's in, and Magic says that it's not about that and asks if they can come in. They have dinner served by Ms. Martinez, and Magic brings up the matter of compensation. Martinez says that his family came there when he was young, and he joined the Marines to get citizenship, and protect it from foreign and domestic enemies. Jenn says that he can't hire himself out to private companies, and Martinez says that he doesn't have free time. He asks if he's in trouble, and says that he didn't do anything improper that he knows of.
Jenn and Magic leave, and Jenn suggests that Martinez is telling the truth. Magic agrees, but tell Jen to dig into Martinez background and sees if he has any secrets.
Ben and Naomi find the woman and her child trapped in a car, with a transformer threatening to come down. He breaks the windshield open and the family get out, and the transformer falls and lands in a puddle that Naomi is standing in. Ben goes to her and tries to wake her up, and has memories of him as a child, finding his mother unconscious on the floor.
Addison appears and tells Ben that he needs to do CPR, and Ben doesn't know how. She walks him through the procedure, and Ben follows her instructions and revives Naomi. Addison warns Ben that the building is going to collapse in 56 minutes, and Ben promises Naomi that he's going to rescue Jason and runs off.
Ben gets to the BART tunnel and runs along the tracks, and remembers his fighting with his mother and her breaking into tears. Addison appears and guides Ben through the tunnels, and tells him to walk and catch his breath. She asks what's going on, and he says nothing but Addison says that he doesn't get to keep secrets. Ben tells Addison that he remembers how his mother died, and why he never told Addison about it. He finally explains that the night his mother died, they got into a huge argument because he brought home a report card with all Bs. He did it deliberately to be a normal kid, and told her he hated his mother for moving them to NYC. Ben took off that night, and when he came back he found her on the floor with a brain aneurysm. Addison offers her condolences, and Ben says that he never got to tell her mother he was sorry, or never thanks her for everything she did for him. Ben tells Addison that he has to save Jason and give him the chance to have the relationship with his mother that he never did.
At the Project, Jenn meets with Magic and tells Ian that Ramirez's background cleared out. Jenn figures that Martinez will become the Leaper in the future, and Magic says that he'll put Martinez under surveillance. As Ian and Jenn leave, Ian suggests that they're talking to Martinez created the chain of events that made him a Leaper against them.
Jenn: Ian, I can't tie my brain in pretzels about what's going to happen in the future. We need to focus on the present, and get back to Ben and Addison in the past.
Ben gets to the apartment in Oakland and finds Jason outside. The boy says that Mr. Wheeler is trapped inside. Addison warns that Ziggy says that if Ben goes inside, there's only a 30% chance of him making it out alive. Ben tells Jason to promise that he won't go inside, and Jason promises.
Ben runs inside and looks for Wheeler, and Addison directs her to Wheeler's apartment. She goes through the door and confirms that Wheeler is inside, and Ben breaks in and finds the shakes man. As he helps Wheeler out, a rafter falls on him and knocks him unconscious, as well as trapping him underneath it.
Addison tries to wake Ben up, while Wheeler goes for help. Ian warns Addison that the building will collapse in two minutes, and Jason comes in and tries to lift the rafter off the unconscious Ben. Ben wakes up and Ben helps him left the rafter enough to get out from under it. The two of them get out as the building collapses, and the watching crowd cheers. Ben and Jason hug, and Jason apologizes. While Ben tells Jason that everything's going to be okay from now on, Addison wonders why Ben didn't Leap.
Jason says that his Naomi doesn't care about the family and is going to divorce Ben. Ben says that Naomi did everything for Jason, and Jason doesn't want to come to the day when he realizes that on his own, and the regret never goes away.
They go to the hospital, and Jason is reunited with his mother. Naomi thanks Ben for bringing Jason back to her, and she apologizes to Jason for how he found out about the divorce. She says that she wasn't hurt badly, and they hug. Ben remembers his mother and the good times he had with her. Addison gets a signal from Ziggy, and tells Ben that he did it, Jason and Naomi are reconciled, and Jason grows up to become a civil engineer designing earthquake-proof buildings, and saving thousands of lives.
A nearby phone rings, and Ben realizes the phones are working. He tries to call his mother but can't remember the number. Addison breaks the rules about interfering and tells him, and when Ben calls he gets his mother on the line... and leaps.
Kian comes to see Magic and tells him that he realized he was looking at the math wrong. He figures that Ben is trying to leap into the future rather than the past, even though it's supposedly impossible. Magic figures that Ian is the only one smart enough to figure out how and why, and to get on it.
Addison emerges from the imaging chamber and Jenn says that she would have done the same thing that Addison did. Addison says that the Ben that Leaped is more open with his feelings in a way she hoped they'd get to. She feels that she's falling more in love with him. Jenn says that it's beautiful, and Addison suggests that they have dinner and watch TV.
Ben appears in the body of a priest at a front door, on Halloween. The door opens and a woman opens the door, calls him "Father Davenport", and says that it's gotten worse.
