Young Adult book properties are becoming cinematic fare all over the place, but when it comes to TV there've been a few significant hold-ups this season. ... The CW has now passed on its second piloting effort for "The Selection," an adaptation of Kiera Cass' bestselling Ya novel. The CW gave its "Selection" adaptation a second chance by ordering up a new script and starting the cast over from scratch with a seasoned director at the helm, but to no avail. The second effort was said to be much more adult than the book or the first pilot attempt and took noteworthy liberties with the characters and bedroom behaviors included -- a formula which has panned out well for the network with "The Vampire Diaries," which is at this point very loosely based upon L.J. Smith's novel series. Fellow Ya book-to-small screener "Delirium" was also passed on (by Fox) this week.

Just in time for Cannes comes the first official artwork for David Hayter's Wolves that some may find just a bit too Twilight-esque, but hey... Jason Momoa and Stephen McHattie are in it so we're all in no matter what!
The film, which writer/director Hayter previously described as "Twilight with a bit more bite to it and without abstinence," stars Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class), Jason Momoa (Conan, "Game of Thrones"), and Merritt Patterson (The Hole, "The Selection") along with Stephen McHattie, Kaitlyn Leeb, Simon Northwood, and John Pyper-Ferguson. Hayter is best known for writing/co-writing Watchmen, X2, The Scorpion King, and X-Men.

Here's an exclusive question and answer series with Pitch Dark Days author Kiera Cass on "The Elite," her awesome follow-up to "The Selection" which is now on shelves! Q: Aside from America, which of the Elite girls do you most identify with and why? A: I feel like if I was one of those girls, I would end up being Natalie. I think 9 times out of 10, I don’t actually know what’s going on. I really like that she doesn’t get too worked up over things that don’t matter. Not sure if I identify with her, but I like her a lot. Q: Celeste is written with a special sort of fervor. Is that just America's vitriol for the character or do you as an author draw from like a middle school meangirl experience or something for all that wretchedness? Kiera Cass definitely owned audiences with "The Selection," a "The Hunger Games" meets "The Bachelor" tale of royal romance in the dystopian era, and with book two, "The Elite," the author carries forward the momentum and all the feels her fans know so well. In "The Elite," we find America Singer - who at first was not interested in competing for the hand of Prince Maxon but who became seduced by his many charms - in quite the tricky pickle. She's now one of only six girls remaining in the widely-publicized competition for the prince's heart, but there's also the matter of Aspen, her sorta-flame from back home who just so happens to now be her guard at the palace. Talk about a sticky love triangle ... and a dangerous one, too. See also: Dark Days of Summer Tour presents 'The Elite' by Kiera Cass As the story unfolds, we come...

Yet another new castmember has been added to The CW's second pilot effort at adapting Kiera Cass' The Selection, and this time the character cast doesn't stem directly from the book version of the story. Per Deadline, English actor Ben Aldridge will portray Prince Rafe, the younger prince of Illea who "loves his country and takes his leadership role seriously — but he does have a secret." As detailed by Spoiler TV, the second piloting script for The Selection adds more focus on the affairs of the palace, which is being attacked by sometimes dangerous revolutionaries on a regular basis, and this means the addition of characters like Rafe ... and more drama, like the fact that Rafe has a little tryst on the side with one of the competitors for his brother's heart. More casting news has come in for The CW's pilot "The Selection," and it sounds like they are diverging from the source material a bit by adding an entirely new character. Read on for the details.
Deadline broke the news that British actor Ben Aldridge ("Lark Rise to Candleford," "The Bible") will play Prince Rafe, the younger brother of Prince Maxon (Michael Malarkey), who loves his country and takes his leadership role seriously — but has a secret. What's interesting is that, as MTV pointed out, in Kiera Cass' dystopian novel, upon which the potential series is based, Prince Maxon is an only child.
"The Selection" is set 300 years in the future and is about 35 working-class young women who are chosen via a lottery to participate in a competition for the Royal Prince Maxon's hand in marriage, which would make the winner the new queen, all while a growing rebellion threatens to crush the crown.

Pilot season is in full swing and The CW is continuing to green light possible options for the 2013-2014 television season. As of today there are eight pilots that are vying for a season order.

The "Gilmore" connection comes from the fact that Ritter is coming off "Parenthood," where his character was in a relationship with Sarah (Lauren Graham). Graham, of course, played Bledel's mom on "Gilmore Girls" -- although there was never a story line in which they were both interested in the same guy.
More pilot casting:
- Former "Lost" star Naveen Andrews will return to ABC in the network's drama pilot "Reckless," which stars Patrick Fugit as a man trying to free his wife (Eloise Mumford) from prison in a politically unstable country.

For fans of Kiera Cass' The Selection who are ready for something new from the series before The Elite hits shelves on April 23, Harper Teen is releasing a new Selection novella called The Prince tomorrow (March 5), and a sneak peek at the first chapter from the story has now been unveiled! Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive look at The Prince, which tells the early portions of the Selection story from Prince Maxon's point of view. The character is self-deprecating as always and says things like "Any girl who settles for me can't possibly be a sane woman." So, his humility is clearly not just a figment of America Singer's imagination. Back in September, 2012, Kiera Cass wrote about the origin o ....

Back near the end of January we reported that The CW’s pilot for The Selection had been green lighted. This book-turned-television pilot was cast early last year and filmed in October, but failed to resonate with testing audiences. It was given a new rewrite on the script, a new director, and a new leading lady.
Previously cast actors Sean Patrick Thomas (Save the Last Dance) and Peta Sergeant (best known for her lead role in the Australian television series Satisfaction) will be reprising their roles as Sylvan Santos and Gaia Woods.
The former lead Aimee Teegarden (Friday Night Lights) will be replaced by Yael Grobglas to play America Singer, according to Deadline, and though she is a virtual unknown in the U.S. she has played the lead in the Israeli series Tanuhi (Give It A Rest).
Here’s the book synopsis for The Selection.

Written by Sera Gamble and directed by Taylor Hackford, the project chronicles the aftermath of a scandal at a Naval base in Virginia, which touches the lives of both civilians and military personnel in the area. Sean Patrick Thomas, best known for his role opposite Julia Styles in '90s dance fave "Save The Last Dance," has officially been cast in The CW's "The Selection" pilot. Again.
Warner Bros. produced the pilot, about a "Bachelor"-like search for the princess of a Dystopian country, for The CW ast season, but it never went to series. Instead of scrapping it, though, The CW decided to spend a year developing it.
