The Last True Member of Akatsuki
tomasmmc-771986 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Here is showed the end of Kisame Hoshigaki, the last original Akatsuki, considering that Tobi and Zetsu are on a different league (as the future will show). As expected, Gai wins the battle against Kisame, and has cornered him on the water. He explains that his last technique is based on extreme tai jutsu, which throws several amounts of compressed air, simulating a nin jutsu attack. Kisame is left surprised as this was their third fight, and Gai always had this technique under his sleeve. Later, the Akatsuki is taken back with the others and imprisoned by Yamato. Gai has recovered the scroll with intel, and Aoba tries to gather information by entering Kisame's mind. A part of his background is showed: Kisame was a strong cold swordsman under Fuguki's command, who was the leader of the Seven ninja swordsmen of the Mist. Once, he had a mission with the Cypher division, and he had to protect them and make sure that the code they carried didn't leak to the enemies. But the second part was more crucial as Fuguki ordered. So, on one mission, Kisame and his colleagues from the Cypher division were escaping from a Konoha squad, led by Ibiki. He had seven shinobis to protect and the Konoha squad was numerous, so the chances for anyone to fall in the enemy's hands was were high. Kisame resolved to kill all his colleagues (including Miru, the kunoichi who tried to be nice to him) in order to prevent any code leaks. Before dying, Miru told him what a terrible life he had. Whem Ibiki arrived, didn't seem to understand why, but Kisame told him that he should, considering how important is for him extract information from prisoners. Then, it's showed that Kisame returned to Kirigakure, and killed Fuguki after realizing he was working with other enemies. He obtained Samehada, and was visited by Yagura, the 4th Mizukage. Kisame was wary of his leader, the jinchuriki of the Sanbi (the Isobu of three tails), but as he wondered about his future given his usual role to kill comrades, Tobi appeared before him. Kisame then realized that Tobi was controlling Yagura with the Sharingan (a world full of lies), and at the same time, noticed that he is not Madara Uchiha. Just when Aoba, while reading the captive's mind, was about to learn Tobi's true identity, Kisame bit his own tongue to stop the process. Still, it's revealed to the viewer that then Tobi gave Kisame a purpose: work as his colleague in an organization which goal is to achieve a world in peace, without lies and murders. That's what Kisame wanted, by questioning why he is alive, he was tired of being used to deceive and kill comrades, tired of the lies. On the present, Kisame traps himself on a water prison, aware that he can't escape considering all his enemies. He commits suicide by summoning three sharks to devour him. Yamato and Naruto are stunmed, as no one can stop Kisame from dying. On his last moments, the Hidden Mist Village deserter remembers the time he met Itachi: he introduced himself, and given what happened to the Uchihas, he tried to talk about their points in common, the sensation of killing comrades. Still, Itachi simply said that Kisame talks much. When Kisame threatened him, Itachi responded as well, and said that whoever raises a hand against a comrade never dies in a honourable way. Itachi also told him that a man does not know his true nature until he reaches the end of his life. Kisame thinks this now, and how he is not so miserable after all. Once he dies and the sharks disappear, Yamato is stunned by seeing the way the legendary swordsman of the Mist died. Motoi doubts, but Killer B confirms it as Samehada was feeling down. As Aoba ponders how Kisame did what he did to prevent information being leaked, Naruto says that even in Akatsuki, the members protect each other. Gai promises he will never forget Kisame. Anyway, now Motoi wants to be sure of what was in the intel scroll, but when Gai opens it, they are all trapped in a water prison, each one with a shark. The special shark from before reaches the scroll and escapes to the sea, while the others try to get away from their prisons. At the end, looks like Kisame got away with it. He died by his own hand, and managed to save relevant information for Akatsuki. In a real war, Kisame's death would be honourable. But on this anime, he did not achieve much glory. Such powerful character, a great enemy, yet he didn't kill any main or secondary character from Konoha. Hidan (with Kakuzu's help), took Asuma's life. Pain/Nagato took Jiraiya's life. Sasori indirectly took Chiyo's. Deidara should have taken Sasuke's. Orochimaru took Hiruzen's. I liked Itachi's words, that any person who would hurt or kill a comrade wouldn't have an honourable death, but this doesn't apply to everyone. Kisame could have shown more if all the war arc was different. It should have been different. Anyway, despite this, the rest of the episode was good overall. The flashbacks to Kirigakure showed some of the village's background and how Tobi was controlling everything from the shadows. It's weird that a kunoichi would be nice to Kisame, but it's a repetitive way to tell "girls can be nice to cold people". The memory between Itachi and Kisame was the best scene. Itachi admitted that his life, same as Kisame's, worth nothing given what they did in the past. Itachi, as modest as always.
