Romanticizing Porn
nireh-6139920 March 2024
This TV series is loosely based on the life of Italian pornstar Rocco Siffredi (born Tano). It's not a biopic, and as Siffredi stated, "it is based on me, but this is certainly not my life."

Supersex was the name of a photo magazine first published in France and then in Italy, from the end of the 70s to the mid-90s. Supposedly, it affected Siffredi at a young age, leading him to idolize porn and pursue a career in the porn industry.

The first couple of episodes are reminiscent of 'Malena' with Monica Bellucci. There are some very attractive women, idyllic scenery, and family values that lead to serious conflicts, initially resembling a European movie from the 80s.

This is not an erotic TV series. The producers didn't aim for sensuality, and the many nude or sex scenes don't convey that vibe at all.

The actors portraying actual persons look the part and do their best to give a sense of authenticity to the behavior and mannerisms of those individuals.

There isn't an explicit moral statement in this series. Porn is initially romanticized, but soon it becomes evident that it's just another job with its own set of rules and challenges. There is an underlying ideology, like freedom, but ultimately, it's about money, fame, and serving the industry.

Overall: If you're bored of the usual Netflix TV series, give it a chance. It's not offensive or pornographic.

Good actors, Poor plot!
matin20007 April 2024
I watched the episodes in Italian with subtitles to get the feelings demonstrated by actors which were in abundance. As a result, one can say Supersex is a worthy drama when it comes to artistic expressions, however, sadly that's where my appreciation ends!

Plot of the show is rather convoluted with lots of inconsistencies which would definitely confuse an average English language viewer used to precise beginnings and endings in Dramas where a specific conclusion/cliff-hanger is given.

When it comes to storytelling, unfortunately, they've just mixed many often unrelated storylines, whether fact or fiction, all mixed in a blender which would just exhaust a viewer to distinguish heads from tails!

Of course, one could justify this mix of stories as nuances familiar to an Italian audience which in turn makes this show more suited for a domestic market rather than an international one.

Unexpected
abampi16 March 2024
Most people probably expected some kind of weird celebration of the most famous italian porn icon... And got exactly the opposite. A 100% serious dramatization of Rocco's life - a very hard one, pun intended. Very well directed and acted (not an easy task at all). Not everything Is faithful to the real events, but Rocco was involved and the important meaning and message is there. Best surprise of this 2024, so far. Ignore the negative review s, most of them (check) come from people simply disliking the subject and watched 1 episode or less (don't understand why they feel entitled to review It, frankly).

What was the point of it? Too fictionalised
julesbaxter-4682924 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
We were expecting this series to be a really interesting gritty biopic of the real life of Rocco Siffredi, a man of many controversies but it was a fictional Saint Rocco who has men and women swarming him for orgies every 2 minutes.

What really got us was the fact that the character of his older brother Tommy, Tommy's wife Lucia and the child they had were massively pivotal to the storyline, a major part of every episode and yet these people never existed! Rocco never had an older brother and sister in law in his life! And yet they've thrown in this fake older brother with his volatility that Saint Rocco always has to deal with, a fake sister in law that his fake brother at one time pimped out.

It's mugging off anyone watching it that thinks it's remotely Rocco's life! It's the worst thing we've ever watched on Netflix.

Rocco was no saint, he was a sex addict that cheated on his wife and was seen as responsible for encouraging a generation of fans to be very rough with women at intimate times - that should have been what the series was about.

Not for the weak
vhpxvsm10 March 2024
Keep an open mind when engaging in this series as it will challenge convention. It will go into multiple layers of storytelling in order to provide background for the pathology behind the "birth" of one of the most famous actors in the adult industry. The series is unexpectedly good and well implemented, well acted and has a very binding atmosphere.

Plot starts from childhood and the troubles that come with battling catholic house hold drama in a small Italian town. The intricacies that follow offer a Dostoievskian twist to the overall vibe of the series with an intertwining destiny between the protagonist, its muses & his calling.

Highly romanticised sleazy life
dierregi11 March 2024
It's kind of weird to think that the Italian John Holmes gets a seven-episode show about his life and profession, in which said life is highly romanticized, making him take a stand like a superhero whose superpower is - obviously -sex.

One would think that pretty much everybody is gifted with that kind of cheap superpower, but of course, not everybody ends up making a living cavorting in public.

The show starts with a very young Rocco being under the spell of older "brother" Tommy, a small-time crook who ends up in Paris and thanks to his connections in the underworld will launch Rocco's "career".

It's highly debatable if such a career is worth celebrating, but for sure the script goes out of its way to show Rocco as an almost shy guy, ready to protect the weak (his younger brothers) and looking for "love" first with Lucia, Tommy's wife, then with a naive girl and finally with a slightly deranged "model" with whom he spends 10 months in Greece.

Despite the earnest attempts to clean up Rocco's act, the truth is that his world is extraordinarily sleazy...for instance, Tommy pimps Lucia in Pigalle while professing his love among hysterics, Rocco's forays in the red light district and the American hard-core porn are anything but naive. Rocco is described as "handsome" but even the actor portraying him cannot disguise a sneery brutality in his handling of women.

Literally nothing worth here
djslump17 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Biopic that is totally fictitious, with made up characters that never existed or has never happened to be as described in the movie. I am wondering what made the director think that the faking reality up to such extent was a good idea. And the way the story is told is just not credible: porno actors and prostitutes talk each other philosophically, basically only about deep things all the time. I mean they could of course, but it didn't sound authentic here. In the end the plot is: sex without love does not make you happy, even if you are a pornstar. Ok, why 7 boring episodes just to say that? Rocco's life is just an excuse to capture some audience, I literally can't find anything worth in this movie.

Extremely well played
Hopstimop1 April 2024
Don't get fooled by the title and the premise.

This is a deep drama series.

Yes, there are some sex scenes, but they are never self serving, but have meaning.

You won't see the "making of" porn movies, but you get a character drama played extremely well by very talented actors.

I am pretty sure that this movie has put the industry in a too generous light, even if you actually get a little taste, how it is in the inside in reality.

I enjoyed the series very much and I can only recommend it.

Apparently some people, who wrote reviews here didn't really understand what it is all about, like the writer whose review is on the main page with the title of "Highly romanticised sleazy life":

If that guy thought, this movie is an "advertising" for sleazy lifestyle and tries to romanticize how porn actors are rich people competing on the same level with Hollywood stars, then he saw a different movie or he just have no clue about anything in life.

If you like drama, watch it. If you want to watch porn, go to pornhub.

What was the point?
provita-1114219 March 2024
The biopic is made-up. I'm guessing the director thought Rocco's life would be interesting of itself, but in reality, it was extremely boring so the director thought it would be a good idea to embellish the story.

The director should have watched the documentary that Rocco did to know that there's not much to tell, but she was a boy-fan which took over the better judgment, and still over to lie about her hero hence the name "Supersex".

Francesca Manieri clearly identifies as a man but lack an important tool which could explain her hero worship for Rocco. As William Thackeray once wrote in his Vanity Fair: "I wonder is it because men are cowards in heart that they admire bravery so much, and place military valour so far beyond every other quality for reward and worship?"

Unexpected craftmanship
mselmandinler12 March 2024
It is a very dramatic fiction about a porn star. So if you are allergic to porn, if you start to cry when you see a big penis, you may want to stay away.

But that doesnt mean the sex scenes always and only serve the purpose of porn. They mostly depict the vile, melancholic and isolated lives of porn industry workers. Even tough they penetrate each other in all possible forms, they really cant touch any other human.

This life of porn stars is not been glorified totally but up to a degree, yes they are stars, suffering, lonely, crippled souls that need so bad to be stars.

Especially dialogues are written so good. I liked the script, actors and actresses, costumes and shooting.

Honestly speaking, i really dont see why that oscar winning fake bubble oppenheimer movie is any better than this? I would prefer supersex any day of the we ek.

Tries to redeem a horrible person
chebosky20 March 2024
This is a really well made series that offers a peek into the life of one of the most famous male porn stars ever. It does have a lot of gratuitous sex scenes but there's really no way to avoid that given the subject matter. It does it's best to deep dive into the life and family of Rocco Siffredi without glamorizing his upbringing and struggles, but it far too often lets him off the hook and tries to paint him as more of a tortured artist who just wants to free the world. This is ridiculous

As someone who used to watch a lot of porn when Rocco was in his prime, it was him that turned me off it for good. It is important to note that a lot of the adult productions of that era were all about pushing boundaries and depicting male dominance and female degradation, and for this Rocco was truly ahead of his time. He could be overly aggressive and violent in the way he handled his co-stars and seemed to relish in pushing a scene partner way past her boundaries for his own gratification. He could be extremely violent and would verbally ask for consent well past the point the act began. You could see in his face the arrogance of knowing that he was on top of this world and let anyone object to his brand of humiliation to their demise in the industry

It was a couple scenes in particular where you could very clearly see the fright and panic in a female performer who was being pushed to a breaking point that I could no longer justify participating as a viewer. Now you could say "well they consented right", and that would pass for an explanation in those days before people really cared about power dynamics and could just cast off accusations of sex workers because that's the life you signed up for. But I don't buy it. Especially in the European market at that time any up and comer was almost required to pass through Roccos clutches at some point and young female performers then were not in a position to say no

I have heard quotes from his contemporary adult stars musing about how Rocco is able to get girls to do things they would ever do with other performers. I guess he likes to think it's just his charm and care, but more likely it's because he simply did what he wanted regardless, and the female performers had no recourse to object lest they lose money and future status. Of course I wasn't there so maybe they all really liked it and consented enthusiastically to his particular brand of brutality, but I highly doubt it. Sure, many probably enjoyed it, but I would challenge anyone to look into the eyes of the performers with him and tell me they wanted it

For this I won't condone this romanticized view of his life where he is just a victim to his desires, and after all he was so good at it who wouldn't want to be with him. It's clear he was involved in this production, and I would much rather a film about all the damage he left in his wake.

Set my expectations quite low...and was still disappointed
grantss28 March 2024
The life story of Rocco Siffredi, porn star. From growing up in gangster-infested Ortona, to family tragedy, to getting into the adult movie industry, to fame, to further tragedy and beyond.

I wasn't really sure what to expect from this series. A porn star is an unlikely subject for a biographical drama series. No matter how famous they are they're hardly the person you want to depict in a biopic. This made me intrigued as I thought maybe there was something positive that could be taken away from the series.

Then again, it could just be an exercise in sordidness and gratuitous sex scenes. So I went in with low expectations and an open mind.

Turns out it's neither profound nor overly debauched, so will appeal to nobody.

Rather than examine why someone would want to be porn star and the moral and life choices involved it's a pretty tame, conventional biopic on a fairly dull, unworthy-of-a-biopic subject. The writers try to add in some human drama by throwing in family tragedies and personal issues but it's all superficial melodrama.

Worse still, it's a 7-episode mini-series so this goes on for about six hours. A 90-minute film might have been reasonably interesting as the mountains of superficial filler would have been cut out but as a mini-series it's quite tedious.

Avoid.

Watch it, don't be shy!
kathiag10 March 2024
I find sx scenes irrelevant in many films - proves nothing except a cheap shot at something to fill in the silence. I also dislike erotic fantasy flicks - Skipped them all until this!

Watched without any expectations, got rid of the horrid English voice over dubs and found this bio an absolute treasure in its original language. I was drawn to their stories, each character had something deeper and relatable on a human level.

Very good actors here worth more projects ahead and I am definitely looking forward to their versatility.

Deserves far better reviews than just being branded as "steamy" and raunchy. However, each to his/her/their own.

Speechless
roxmewild7 March 2024
Intrigued by the title and how this would translate into a watchable series from the first episode I could not make out if this was suppose to be serious or tongue in cheek as it was the strangest and most bizzare thing I have watched To say I was speechless when discovering this was loosely based on a real person is an understatement! As I am not a porn fan I would not know any of the major pornstars or names Not sure percentage wise how much is true and how much made up but I do think Freud would have a Field day analysing the writer of this series! Personaly the first episode was enough to warrant switching off but in order to give a fair review one has to watch the entirety even if painful ! This series was very painful!

Surprising depth and character development. Not as expected.
dmoyen10 March 2024
I was expecting a purely porn movie but this is an exquisite love story for multiple characters with many contrasts and perplexing dilemas. Porn (soft core) is a core part of the story but it is not THE story. It is tastefully and accurately integrated into Rocco's life story. However this is definitely an Adults (18+) only movie!

The scenery and characters are beautiful! The story takes place in Italy, France, and Los Angeles. The movie is in Italian language but over dubbed in English - hardly noticeable. I will watch it again in Italian. It was very engaging emotionally. As I mentioned, the sex is an outcome of Rocco's story, not the only reason for the movie. I have never seen a "Porn" movie of this caliber and depth before.

The acting by the main characters is good. The Directors have accurately portrayed Rocco's life story, without the movie feeling like a Documentary or Biography. The subject matter has a seamy and sometimes distasteful side but the Directors do not dwell on that or emphasize it. It is all part of the story.

The movie was a surprise. I did not expect to be drawn into a 7 Episode Italian Mini-Series. It is engaging and tastefully presented. The cinematography is outstanding. This genre is unique. I have not watched the last 7th episode yet. Hopefully, the conclusion is done as well as the rest of the series.

If you have the time and want to try a different kind of good movie, give Supersex a shot. By the way, the title seems to portray a XXX Porn movie but this is not. The title is a key ingredient of Rocco's life story.

Terrible acting and subject
Cookiejar558 March 2024
Not sure what was so special about a dude with the charisma of cardboard to warrant a series no one wants to watch but I thought maybe there is something interesting about the industry or some more insights.

It's a glory piece with no specific direction or acting, and not even the character is interesting or compelling.

I don't expect depth but I have seen similar documentaries from the female pov and they are very interesting, I would suggest those instead as they paint a complete picture of the industry and its little secrets.

Again not sure who would watch this, who the target audience is because the MC is really not easy on the eye (not the actor, but the man he is playing) and cannot imagine who would be that interested in his life.

We're at 2024.
RearBlue13 March 2024
Yep. We are 2024 and these little gems are beyond imagination. If someone is not familiar with porn or just finding a page just to ''relieve'' themselves well this story is not for you.

A biography for a male pornstar will always be difficult to pass it through the audience. Imagine though this story is for Rocco Sifredi.

I found it fantastic , very ''aromatic'' , romantic and brutal in his mortal life through his family.

Very good acting because you can see and sense his 2 soul feelings in his life. The porn life and his own personal life.

Fantastic acting from Tommaso and from Lucia also. The feelings there are on top.

Well done!!

Should let Saul Nanni be the main actor instead
Genkinchan28 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It's been a while again since I last review a show or a series

I find this show to be very confusing.. the first two episode to be fair it's very good.. we can see the upbringing of Rocco and the teen Rocco which to me is a better actor than the main actor.. I think the movie should just stick with Saul Nanni till the fifth episode which is the 2004 version of Rocco

It's because when in the third episode where Rocco started in the adult industry it looks like somebody in the 40s trying to enter the business.. i

Another point would like to make was too much of the side story between Tommy and Silvia which no one would like to know their story.. at least show us more of Hollywood and the making of Tarzan which is his most famed work

The actor is bad and too much side story and a lot of flashback making it a very confusing series.

Great movie
drite-9338629 March 2024
Great movie. Telling the story of a pornostar and never fall into a vulgar trap its not easy. The movie has a great development of character and a great storyline and acting. It brings us back also in the atmosphere of eastern part of Italy in late 80's, their tradition, mentality.. I loved the character of Rocco's mother Carmela, strong Italian woman who could overcome the prejudism toward her son. Also Tomasso the elder brother is a great character played by a great actor through e great scrpt. Watch it. It gets better and better from one episode to the other. Highly recommend. Enjoy the Italian language. Watch it in original.

Romanticizing p0rn is not the way to go
rebeccalerma-867641 May 2024
Netflix is appearing to have a pattern with the new shows it has been pushing, first with the p0rnhub one that essentially minimized all the wrong the company ever did, and now this. It paints a completely glamorized version of what ut truly is, which speaks volumes considering these shows do show some of the wrong that goes on, just not nearly enough. Ultimately the show is not extremely explicit, it just makes it obvious that the producers have a very specific goal, which is to hide the truth from the average person and promote a lie to absolve them from the consequences of what they are doing wrong.

Great !
markobagic-802209 March 2024
Rocco Siffredi is indeed a figure who has captivated audiences worldwide, but his story is not without controversy. Born Rocco Antonio Tano in May 1964, in Ortona, Italy, he rose to fame as one of the most prolific and enduring figures in the adult entertainment industry. However, his journey to success is far from conventional, marked by twists, turns, and societal taboos.

Siffredi's foray into the world of pornography wasn't merely a pursuit of fame and fortune but rather a complex exploration of identity, desire, and the human condition. From humble beginnings in a small Italian town, he navigated a path that led him to become an international icon, known for his charisma, prowess, and unapologetic embrace of his sexuality.

The allure of Siffredi's story lies in its authenticity. It's a tale of self-discovery and relentless ambition, with Siffredi unafraid to confront the societal norms and prejudices that often accompany his chosen profession. His journey challenges conventional notions of morality and invites viewers to question their preconceived notions about sex, desire, and personal freedom.

While some may dismiss Siffredi's story as mere titillation or exploitation, to do so would be to overlook the complexity and depth of his experiences. His life is a tapestry woven with threads of triumph and tribulation, of joy and sorrow, and of love and longing. Behind the facade of the pornographic persona lies a man grappling with his own humanity, his own flaws, and his own demons.

To understand Siffredi is to acknowledge the myriad forces that have shaped him-the societal expectations, the cultural taboos, and the personal struggles that have shaped his journey. It's a story that defies easy categorization, refusing to be reduced to simple stereotypes or moralistic judgments.

Indeed, the controversy surrounding Siffredi's story is indicative of larger societal attitudes towards sex and sexuality. For some, he represents the epitome of liberation and empowerment, a symbol of sexual freedom in a world plagued by repression and shame. For others, he embodies the darker side of human nature, a cautionary tale of excess and depravity.

But perhaps what is most compelling about Siffredi's story is not its controversy, but its universality. At its core, it is a story about the human experience-of longing and desire, of triumph and tragedy, of hope and despair. In Siffredi, we see ourselves reflected-a flawed and imperfect being, striving to make sense of a world that often defies understanding.

So, to those who would dismiss Siffredi's story as mere pornography or exploitation, I would urge them to look deeper. Behind the veneer of sensationalism lies a narrative rich in nuance and complexity, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of self-discovery. Whether you agree with his choices or not, there is no denying the impact of Rocco Siffredi's story on the cultural landscape-and perhaps, on our own understanding of what it means to be human.

I watched all seven episodes in a row...bindged watch it... to make series about the true story behind the story is brilliant about Rocco. I felt the story had to be told with horrible dialogue and poor direction and all out pathetic acting and lack of translation from Italian to English... this movie is about Souless human beings who will pull their fingernails trying to claw up the charred walls of the damned... if you are demented as I am you will love this wretched ridiculous horrible absolute garbage.

Powerful and raw history telling
jonpetter-4740825 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
A raw, powerfull, intriguing, for some maybe shocking, history telling of the main character. Sure there must be some degree of dramatization in it, but i think you can fell there is also some genuine about it as well. And thanks God the actors were Italian and were very good.

The actors were great and cinematography aspect top notch. The plot is raw, explicit, bold but well executed. I heard about Rocco but didn t know his personal life so this is kinda new, unexpected for me. And the actor playing the main character of Roccos adult life is surprisingly look alike to him. And like i mentioned the italian actors were great, because you can see the are genuine Italian, not British :).

Alessandro Borghi Not Suitable
maheshsarkar-4580510 March 2024
Alessandro Borghi is not suitable for this role as Rocco Siffredi is much hotter, sexier, bolder than Alessandro. Actor looks are very dull and something is missing on his looks like he is loosing charm. It would be great if there was an actor who much sexier, hotter as Rocco. Seems like Alessandro is not enjoying doing this role but seems he is force to this role. This is my personal opinion. Really sorry Alessandro I voted this because of content not actor. Wish you could do better. By looks and your works 2/10. Really sorry Rocco and Alessandro. I don't why he has been casted in this series.

Rocco and Jen is my favourite.
richirobins3 May 2024
I generally don't write reviews but this series is passionate work of director to express life of a Superstar. We all like sex. Sex with love and passion is heaven . Sex is need of human life. That's how life starts and rolling around.

The complete portrait of life of Rocco with deep inside about his life and family, society.

I couldn't stop myself to watch the complete show in one sitting. The exotic and exclusive show. No overhyped, genuine acting, story line with constant pace and grip make it worth to watch.

If you like Sex than must watch series for you.

Boom Boom Rocco 💥. You are best.
