The film is inspired by a very controversial experiment that took place in Sweden in 1948.
The reason behind it was the severely declining dental health. Due to this, a project funded
by the state was put in place with the purpose to examine the connection between a
carbohydrate intake and caries. During the run of the experiment 660 persons with
disabilities were fed high doses of sugar. The result of the study showed a correlation and
Sweden was known worldwide for proving this. However, the study was conducted against
all guidelines regarding existing research ethics of that time. Guidelines that were
established during the Nürnberg trials after WW2.
