I miss the old Teletubbies as much as I miss the old Kanye, but in all fairness, the show's need to have a diverse cast is well noted and welcomed, given the fact that such a need for children's programs to represent everyone regardless of who they are is needed more than ever in a cultural climate that can be polarizing no matter what type of headlines you read in the mass media today.
One thing I am concerned about for this series and for all children's programming in general today - which was highlighted in article about the Teletubbies recently released by BBC Culture - is the fact that if we reflect too much on past nostalgia for the sake of profit - in which I take sides on this one on what a Norwegian preschool TV executive said at the time of the show's first run in the 1990s - we lose creativity to come up with new shows and ideas. Teletubbies to Netflix, Doctor Who to Disney Plus, what type of international financial takeover and broadcasting contracts will the BBC take in next for their programs?
