The stakes are high in season 2 of the Discovery Channel reality series Hoffman Family Gold. Series star Todd Hoffman has put it all on the line financially in the hopes he’ll hit pay dirt at Alaska’s Mammoth Valley Mine. But simmering father-son conflicts, weather challenges, and other hurdles could stand in the way of his goal of mining 1,000 ounces of gold.
In the season premiere, which aired June 16, Todd’s son Hunter Hoffman approached his dad about running his own wash plant, arguing that the move would increase the odds they’d hit their 1,000-ounce target. Hunter’s desire to strike out on his own – and his willingness to go toe-to-toe with his dad when they disagree – sets the stage for some serious clashes to come. But it’s not all about the family drama, Hoffman assured Showbiz Cheat Sheet in an interview.

“Where is he? I’m not hearing him breathe”
And you thought “Deadliest Catch” was dangerous. On Friday’s Season 10 premiere of Discovery’s “Bering Sea Gold,” Vernon Adkison’s new diver Kye nearly stayed down in Davey Jones’ Locker.
Watch TheWrap’s first-look sneak peek of the scary underwater moment via the video above.
Will You Pull The Guy Up Already, Vernon? It’s never a good sign when the reality-show cameraman has to get involved as the voice of reason.
All’s well that ends well, we suppose. Kye made it up and was hired, we’re told. (You can’t really Not hire the guy after that.)
With the biggest shakeup Nome has seen in over 100 years, seasoned miners and average joes alike are on the hunt for the biggest money-making claims.
There’s much more to the Season 10 description than that. Read Discovery’s super-long logline below.

This ‘Bering Sea Gold’ Season-Finale Scene Will Make You Believe in Climate Change (Exclusive Video)
Friday’s season finale of “Bering Sea Gold” proves what polar bears have known for years: Climate change and ice just don’t mix — especially when the tundra was the thinnest it has ever been, historically. Add to that an already dangerous underwater gold-mining operation and global warming creates a true recipe for disaster.
Temperatures in the mid 30s Fahrenheit might not seem so warm to most of us currently enjoying fall weather in America, but you try walking on a thinning sheet of ice in anything north of freezing. Yeah, confidence is low and the risk of peril is high.
But don’t take our word for it, take our exclusive preview of the “Bering Sea Gold” season finale instead. Master narrator Mike Rowe does a much better job explaining all of it anyway, so we’ll let him walk you through the scary (yet potentially very profitable) situation in Nome,...

Friday’s “Bering Sea Gold” may just spell the end for the Myrtle Irene.
In a sneak peek of the episode obtained by TheWrap, onlookers watch in horror as Kerr sends out a desperate call: “Mayday Mayday! Myrtle Irene is in catastrophic dire failure!” We — and Discovery Channel — teased the scary scene back in March.
In the new clip, Emily Riedel, the captain of The Eroica, says an I-told-you-so from shore.
“This is what happens when you don’t respect the Bering Sea,” she says, watching as her competitor’s gold-mining ship, only a few miles from shore, nearly gets swallowed by waves.

The week of March 9 — when the coronavirus was officially declared a pandemic, and Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson shared the news that they had tested positive for Covid-19 — a cascade of television shows and movies shut their productions down for safety reasons. From “Stranger Things” to “The Batman,” these shutterings are temporary, and sets will be up and running as soon as it’s safe to go back into production — though no one knows when that might be. All told, the pipeline for scripted television and movies for later this year and into 2021 has been decimated. The broadcast networks, unable to shoot any pilots for the 2020-21 TV season, are in uncharted territory. And unless the coronavirus curve flattens soon, the broadcasters, which schedule hours and hours of reality television in the summer, will have to rely almost entirely on repeats.

Gold Rush creator and star Todd Hoffman has partnered with Bering Sea Gold executive producers Thom Beers and Jeff Conroy on another series set in the world of amateur gold mining, this time in the competition reality space.
Hoffman and Jose Behar’s Züm Media has signed a development deal with Beers and Conroy’s new multi-platform production company BoBCat Studios to create the show.
Tentatively titled Greenhorn Gold, the series will feature a cast of men and women from all walks of life as novice miners attempting to dig for gold in a blue collar, competition-style reality show. After a massive tryout, the greenhorn miners will be eliminated one-by one until only six remain at the end of the season. Those six will walk away with life-changing money in raw gold to take home to their families.
