Eli Roth made his return to rated “R” horror with the slasher movie Thanksgiving last month, and we learned last week that Roth will return to direct Thanksgiving 2 in 2025.
This year’s holiday slasher is of course a feature length expansion of Roth’s popular faux trailer from Grindhouse (2007), and it seems it’s reignited his passion for his past work.
Speaking with CinePop for a new interview that ran this week (watch the video below), Eli Roth reveals that he’s hungry to return to the worlds of both Hostel and Cabin Fever!
“Hostel there’s a lot more to do. I’d love to go back to Hostel at some point. And Cabin Fever as well,” Roth tells the outlet. “They’re a part of me. They’re like my children.”
“I feel like I’ve ignored them for too long,” Roth continues. “And I’d love to...

Longtime actor and former child star Sean Astin is not a fan of watching horror movies.
“That sensation of jumping because somebody's hand comes through the window to grab your throat -- I don't like that,” he tells Et, which is a bit ironic considering he’s starring in two back-to-back horror projects released in October.
First is Dead Ant, a campy film about killer ants, which Astin says is an homage to those ‘70s B-list horror movies like Empire of the Ants, that premiered at the 2017 ScreamFest in Hollywood, California. The film sees the actor playing an aging rocker with an insane mullet and bad tattoos, who doesn’t quite make it to the end. “I wish I had more time to play with the rest of the group,” Astin says of the cast, which includes Tom Arnold and Jake Busey, but he had fun playing up the Los Angeles music scene. “I felt strangely...

Grippingly frightening dedicated fans of the horror genre through physical and emotional scares can be a challenging task, as many viewers have become desensitized, and are unable to relate to characters who are contending with distressing situations. So creating enthralling and insightful horror movies and televisions series that captivatingly chronicle the problems of contemporary society in a purposeful way is certainly an even bigger challenge. But actress Lydia Hearst, who starred in last year’s horror prequel, ‘Cabin Fever: Patient Zero,’ has naturally created characters in two such compelling, thought-provoking horror movies this fall: one in first-time feature film writer and director Eli Morgan Gesner’s ‘Condemned,’ which opened this weekend in [ Read More ]

Well it’s that time of year again – the one where websites across the globe churn out Top 10 list after top ten list. So why should we be any different?! Yet whilst we may be following the predictable end of year lists, I can guarantee that my list is anything but predictable, featuring films from across the globe: including the Us, Canada, Italy, Australia, New Zealand and even good old Blighty!
This year more than ever there has been film after film that knocked it out of the park for me – which is why my Top 10 list has Two sections: the Top 10 and then the pick of 35(!) more brilliant movies (I would have loved this list to be a Top 45, honestly). So what’s my criteria? Well it has to be a movie I’ve seen this year, one that was released this year, i.e. making its UK debut,...

Eli Roth has announced a remake of Cabin Fever.
The writer-director of the 2002 horror film will serve as executive producer on the movie.
Travis Zariwny (Intruder) will direct, using the same script as the original.
Cabin Fever centres around a group of young friends who rent a remote cabin in the woods.
All hell breaks loose when they begin to fall victim to a horrifying flesh-eating virus.
Teen Wolf's Gage Golightly, Dustin Ingram, Samuel Davis, Matthew Daddario and Nadine Crocker will star in the remake.
Roth was not involved in the poorly received 2009 sequel Cabin Fever: Spring Fever and 2014 prequel Cabin Fever: Patient Zero.

In what is either the least or most timely film news of the month, it was announced today that writer-director Eli Roth is executive producing a remake of his 2002 flesh-eating virus horror film, Cabin Fever. The new Cabin Fever will use the script from Roth's original film and stars Gage Golightly, Dustin Ingram, Samuel Davis, Matthew Daddario, and Nadine Crocker. The movie is being directed by Travis Zariwny and starts shooting in Portland, Ore., this week. The original, low budget Cabin Fever grossed $21 million domestically and inspired a sequel, 2009's Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever, and the recent prequel, Cabin Fever: Patient Zero.

This could either be a very interesting experiment or it could go horribly wrong. Eli Roth joins the remake of his 2002 directorial debut, Cabin Fever, as executive producer, Variety reports. Cameras start rolling this weekend and this time around the film with be directed by Travis Zariwny, who has a feature in post-production called Intruder and will star Gage Golightly, Dustin Ingram, Samuel Davis, Matthew Daddario, and Nadine Crocker.
The part of this news that is interesting is that the remake is using the original film’s script, about a group of college students that become infected with a flesh eating virus while staying in a cabin in the woods. Fangoria quotes Roth as saying; “Travis had an amazing vision for my original script,” Roth says, “and as a scary movie fan I really wanted to see it. Eli Roth’s 2002 horror comedy Cabin Fever is getting a remake, with the original movie’s writer-director Roth returning as executive producer. He won’t have to do much writing this time, though: The plan is to use the exact same Roth-Randy Pearlstein script that was shot in 2002, and with a cast already moved in, it puts the project on the fast track. Shooting begins this week in Portland, Or.
The new version will star Teen Wolf‘s Gage Golightly, Dustin Ingram, Samuel Davis, Matthew Daddario and Nadine Crocker. Travis Zariwny (Intruder) is directing. Armory Films’ Chris Lemole and Tim Zajaros and Contend’s Evan Astrowsky will produce, and Armory and Pelican Point Media are financing. Roth will exec produce with Cassian Elwes, Ike and Jaclyn Ann Suri, and Peter Fruchtman.
Elwes and CAA will handle domestic sales for Cabin Fever and Voltage international sales at the upcoming American Film Market.

Draft Day I guess the discussion before releasing Draft Day was whether or not to take advantage of the start of the NFL season with the theatrical release or the DVD and Blu-ray release and the home video marketing team won because clearly that's the reason for bringing it out today, but does anyone care at this pointc The movie is no good, especially for anyone with a passing understanding of, or interest in, the NFL.

If someone is a big enough fan of Universal's Classic Monsters franchise aren't they going to want them all and be willing to pay for them all on Blu-rayc Is it the cost involved in restoring them all and...

Last year, James put together a comprehensive guide, of every piece of Halloween programming and horror movie that would air during the month of October. When I asked him if we were doing the same again this year, he acted like I was an idiot. Why wouldn’t we? With that knowledge in my head, I decided we would expand a little bit this year, and throw together a comprehensive DVD & Blu-ray buyer’s guide for the months of September and October. There are some really great horror releases between now and the end of October. Some studios wasted their opportunity to rope in the rabid genre fans. Fox, for example, except for a new Wrong Turn film, and a few catalog releases making their Blu-ray debuts(Exorcist sequels), has a calendar filled with nonsensical re-releases of titles that are already widely available, and at cheap prices.

We all remember the controversy that surrounded the production of Cabin Fever 2, where director Ti West was met with overwhelming studio-interference, to the point that he tried to have his name removed from the project. I don’t have the second film, but there is no denying that it is “bad”. Still, though it had a somewhat entertaining quality, even if it was a bastardized version of what it was originally intended. After that, there was always talk of a new sequel, and even a reboot, and now that a sequel has actually been produced, it seems as though, instead of making a film that connections to Patient Zero, like they originally intended, they’re going with a reboot of the series instead. Nevertheless, Patient Zero exists, so how does it stack up against the first two films? Well, it is definitely better than Spring Fever, but there is a catch.

A small outbreak of a nasty flesh-eating virus has left a single survivor, and now the scientists responsible for it all have turned Porter (Sean Astin) into a human lab rat. Having watched his only son melt in his arms, Porter’s far from a willing participant in the experimentation and instead just wants to return to his wife. Elsewhere on the island four friends have arrived for an impromptu bachelor party. Marcus (Mitch Ryan) is a day away from getting married, so when his brother Josh (Brando Eaton) and their friends Dobbs (Ryan Donowho) and Penny (Jillian Murray) suggest the overnight trip to a secluded island he finds it hard to resist. A brief swim along the shore reveals a curious absence of sea life, but that doesn’t interfere with diving of another sort back in the tent… and it’s not long before the dangers of island cunnilingus come very, very...

Each of the “Cabin Fever” films have thus far been directed by genre filmmakers with a very specific vision. That may seem like a low bar to set until you glimpse the history of horror franchise-building. The first “Cabin Fever” revealed a certain fiendish sense of humor courtesy of horror merrymaker Eli Roth, who thus far keeps making more and more of a failed effort to maintain a straight face. “Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever” was a film reportedly compromised in the editing room, but what footage remained reveled in Ti West's more misanthropic worldview. But, and this is not meant to shade him, only the talented Kaare Andrews has actually used the material to make an honest-to-god horror film. The delightfully dumb and spooky “Cabin Fever: Patient Zero” is that movie. The set-up, like the rest of the film, is familiar: the flesh-eating strain from the first films...

Grippingly making an independent movie filled with harrowing visual effects that are fueled by a frighteningly realistic subject matter about the perils of science can be a horrifying prospect for some filmmakers. But ambitious director Kaare Andrews drew on his expansive artistic experience, including illustrating such comics as ‘The Incredible Hulk’ and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man,’ for his helming effort on the new horror sci-fi thriller, ‘Cabin Fever: Patient Zero.’ The elaborate production design and make-up of the prequel to ‘Cabin Fever’ and ‘Cabin Fever: Spring Break’ helped infuse the origin story of the virus outbreak with an ominous feeling and foreshadowing of what was terrifyingly set to come. ‘Cabin Fever: [ Read More ]

When Cabin Fever came out in 2002, it was a sensation among fans of freaky frights. The film packed more than a little punch with its own version of the karate kid, a leg shaving scene that set disposable razor sales back for a year, and a German Shepherd who made Cujo look like a lapdog.
Eli Roth’s Cabin Fever left a legacy hard to live up to, but of course a dumbed-down sequel was released. It was directed by Roth’s Bff Ti West, but one would never guess that after the studio heads got hold of it in the editing room and butchered it.
Regardless, the Cabin Fever name still carries weight so there is a prequel that's out now on demand and will be in theaters on August 1, 2014.

How much does Sean Astin know about disgusting infectious diseases? A lot more now than he did a few years ago, probably.
The Lord of the Rings actor can currently be seen in FX’s vampire-virus drama The Strain and is also one of the stars of Cabin Fever: Patient Zero, the third movie in the flesh-eating virus horror franchise which Eli Roth kicked off back in 2002 with his directorial debut Cabin Fever. Patient Zero itself is directed by Kaare Andrews and concerns a Caribbean vacation which goes (as is the tendency in films whose title features the words “Cabin” and “Fever”) badly awry.

I used to watch any horror movie I could put my hands on, back in the good old days of VHS. Going to the different tape rental outlets in St. Louis, (remember Mom and Pop video rental stores? St. Louis used to be full of them.)
Getting to see movies like Re-Animator or Scanners in a theater was a very special treat. I could even enjoy the by-the-numbers of a Friday the 13th or Halloween entry. Blood and gore never bothered me, the more the better. If the movie wasn’t really scary maybe it might have been funny or so bad it was good.
Now, I don’t know, maybe it’s from getting old and having so little time to waste on these kinds of films. I find more of my time taken up with rediscovered silent films,...

While Mark and his friends sail off to celebrate his last days as a single chap, a group of scientists in an underground facility keep the disgruntled patient zero, Porter played by Sean Astin, in hopes that his immunity to the virus can help them solve a cure.
The latter story is the stronger effort of the two, so much so that when it cuts away to the partying twenty-something folk, the intrigue of the facility-under-the-ground thriller made me more interested to see what was going on there.

*full disclosure: a theatrical screening of this film was provided by Sinister Cinemas and Raven Banner Entertainment. Director: Kaare Andrews. Writer: Jake Wade Wall. Cast: Sean Astin, Currie Graham, Ryan Donowho, Brando Eaton and Jillian Murray. Cabin Fever 3: Patient Zero was originally developed as a prequel. This film would be the first in the franchise, followed by Eli Roth's Cabin Fever (2002) and Ti West's Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever (2009). Later, the script was reworked and the film is the second sequel in the franchise. And really, this is a standalone film as this title has only the loosest connections with the previous two films. This second sequel uses several standard indie horror features, which will be recognizable to most fans. However, actor Sean Astin as Porter offers a few deadly surprises along the way. Also, a few slower moments threaten to derail the momentum of the film,...
