Cedric the Entertainer is behind “Finding Happy,” an upcoming dramedy series set to premiere later this year on Bounce TV, the channel announced Thursday.
Created by Kendra Jo, Yasmine Coleman and Angela Wells, the ten-episode “Finding Happy” stars comedian and actor B. Simone as Yaz Carter, a single woman working in the Atlanta radio industry. Yaz feels stagnant in her life, an on her 36th birthday, she makes a decision to create change in her life and find her own happiness. That results in significant shakeups in her family relationships, her career and her dating life.
In addition to Simone, “Finding Happy” will feature an ensemble cast that includes Kim Coles (“Living Single”), Angela Gibbs, Marketta Patrice (“Black Jesus”), Stevie Baggs and Mike Merill. Jo serves as the showrunner of the series. Cedric the Entertainer will executive produce “Finding Happy” with Eric C. Rhone through their Bird and a Bear Productions company.

In this exclusive sneak peek from Apple ahead of Friday’s premiere of docuseries “They Call Me Magic,” Earvin “Magic” Johnson, recalls his notorious pool parties at the height of his fame with the Los Angeles Lakers.
“Well you know, I was known for my parties,” the NBA legend laughs. “I had the best parties in Hollywood. Everybody wanted to come to the pool parties.”
Michael Cooper, a Lakers guard from 1978-1990, says, “It was fun, it was exciting. If you were a married guy, you’d get in trouble. If you were a single guy, you could get in trouble.”
There were plenty of beautiful women at these parties, but wives and girlfriends were not invited, which upset Johnson’s future wife Cookie so much, she walked out on him. The two eventually reunited and have now been married more than 30 years.

The New England Patriots will be the subject of a new documentary event series ordered from Apple called “The Dynasty” that will give a behind-the-scenes look at the championship NFL team and its former star quarterback Tom Brady, as well as general manager Bill Belichick and CEO Robert Kraft, the streaming video service announced Tuesday.
The 10-part docuseries is based on Jeff Benedict’s 2020 book, “The Dynasty: The Inside Story of the NFL’s Most Successful and Controversial Franchise.” The author was given “unprecedented access” to the team and now so has “The Dynasty” director Matthew Hamachek, whose films include the 2021 Tiger Woods doc “Tiger” and the Emmy-nominated “Cartel Land” and “Amanda Knox.”
The Patriots have broken open their archives for the series to share never-before-seen video footage and audio files. Hamachek also conducted hundreds of interviews with past and present Patriots players, coaches and executives, along with league officials and sports rivals.

The past 12 months may have been characterised by a level of uncertainty, but one staunch consistency has been a desire for social change among sections of the international community.
Nearly a decade after Time Magazine named ‘The Protestor’ as its Person of the Year, activism remains a powerful form of grassroots expression in the digital age.
It is the stories behind these campaigns that have been the focus of documentary filmmaker and investigative journalist David France throughout his career.
France’s debut film, How to Survive a Plague, which documents the early years of the HIV epidemic and the efforts of activist groups AIDS Coalition To Unleash Power (Act Up) and Treatment Action Group (Tag), garnered widespread acclaim upon its release in 2012, appearing on over 20 “Best of the Year” lists, including Time and Entertainment Weekly.
He has continued to tell Lgbtiq+ activist stories in the years since, releasing The Death and Life of Marsha P.

"Your life is more important than your pride!" More loop films! Wolfe has debuted an official US trailer for the indie time loop thriller called The Obituary of Tunde Johnson, which originally premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2019. It's finally getting a theatrical debut later this month, after also playing at the Nightstream Film Festival last year. A wealthy, Nigerian-American teen named Tunde Johnson, played by Steven Silver, is pulled over by police, shot to death and immediately awakens, reliving the same day over and over, trapped in a terrifying time loop - forced to confront difficult truths about his life and himself. Nightstream explains: "Featuring one of the best and most radical uses of the time loop narrative device, [the film] offers a striking, crucial perspective of a long underrepresented voice paired with an unwavering appreciation for the beautiful moments in life, and a hope for a better tomorrow." Sounds cool.

Powerful, deeply affecting films, from Relic to Dick Johnson Is Dead, are dispensing with worthiness and restraint to present the illness in a more robust and truthful way
I’ve yet to see a film that sufficiently gets to the heart of what it means to watch a loved one lose their mind to dementia. Those that have garnered attention and awards over the years, while incredibly affecting, are suffused with a worthiness or restraint that somehow neglects the dementia that I have witnessed. There are some notable exceptions: Michael Haneke’s Amour and Tamara Jenkins’ The Savages do well to convey the more savage aspects of the disease. But, on the whole, films dealing in dementia – an umbrella term that relates to the decline of brain function, interfering with memory, mental acuity, movement, spatial awareness, language and everyday activities such as making a cup of tea or buttoning up a cardigan – have felt lacking.

In what is signaling a very good year for documentaries, the Critics’ Choice Association on Monday announced its list of nominations for the fifth annual Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards, and if the past is any clue it could be an indicator of what to expect from the Oscars next spring.
With an inclusive list, to say the least, of about 50 films from approximately 200 submissions, three docs led the way with five noms apiece: Mr. Soul, about a historic Black TV show; Gunda, a touching film about the daily life of a pig and farm companions from exec producer Joaquin Phoenix; and Netflix’s Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution, an archival film about a summer camp catering to disabled young people.
Close behind with four nods each were Alex Gibney’s striking Covid-19 docu Totally Under Control that was actually just completed about two weeks ago; the personal story of a father and daugher, Dick Johnson Is Dead; the remarkable nature doc My Octopus Teacher; and gymnastics scandal pic Athlete A. The latter three hail from Netflix, which swamped the competition with 31 nominations, a more than 2-to-1 distance between next closest distributor Neon with 14. They are the only two distributors to reach double digits.
Overall the critics were in a generous mood, offering 15 films noms for Best Documentary Feature alone.
“At a unique time for the entertainment industry and the world, documentaries are more important and fortunately more abundant and more available and more essential than ever,” said Christopher Campbell, president of the documentary branch of Cca. “In 2020, documentaries have taken us to places and shown us perspectives we’ve never experienced before. They’ve chronicled events and life stories that are enlightening and enthralling — and sometimes frightening. It is a great honor for the Cca to celebrate these stories and subjects and shed light on the work of so many incredible filmmakers. The Documentary Branch faced its greatest task yet considering the quantity and quality of nonfiction cinema released this year. Ultimately, these nominees represent the best of the best of a remarkably fruitful moment for documentary filmmaking.”
Nominees were selected by Critics’ Choice members who were divided into five committees to whittle down the field.

“When people think of plagues, they think of me,” jokes David France. Since the Covid-19 pandemic started, the director of 2012’s Oscar-nominated documentary How To Survive A Plague has seen an uptick in media requests, the title of his most known work all but an engraved invitation. The film chronicles the life-or-death fight for effective AIDS treatments waged by Act-Up, the era-defining AIDS activist group that demanded to be heard by the government, Big Pharma and the country at large.
What can his film, or more broadly the AIDS Plague Years of the 1980s and early ’90s prior to the arrival of life-saving drug cocktails in 1996, teach us about living with a pandemic today? What does that moment in history have to say about our own, about our government and healthcare system, about ourselves?

Sammy Hagar and the Circle are still officially booked to tour North American amphitheaters this summer on a bill with Whitesnake and Night Ranger, but odds are rather high they’ll be forced to either cancel or postpone it due to the coronavirus.
As they wait to learn the fate of their tour — along with the rest of us — Hagar and bandmates Michael Anthony, Jason Bonham and Vic Johnson have teamed up via the internet to record a cover of the Who’s “Won’t Get Fooled Again.” They shave...

Hope you like scares, because here comes a chilling fact: If "Gilmore Girls" began today, Lorelai Gilmore would've been born in 1982. Choke on that. Most of these streams are available beginning October 1. Check out our list of streaming musts from Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Crackle. Hulu "South Park" Did you know Hulu has exclusive rights to "South Park"? It does. And did you know that "The Book of Mormon," which I finally saw, plays like a long, mostly good episode of "South Park"? Except unlike "South Park," my mother loves it? And she's the kind of person who tried banning "Salute Your Shorts" in my house because they sometimes made jokes about jockstraps? It's all confusing, but let's just sit back and watch "South Park" again. Remember Scuzzlebutt, the creature who had Patrick Duffy for a leg? Yeah, that's 17 years old. Fun newsflash: You'll be dead soon. "Scandal" Olivia...

While all eyes are currently laser focused on Jj Abrams' currently filming Star Wars: Episode VII, we can't forget that the other films in the galaxy far, far away are also in variuos stages of production. Rian Johnson recently spoke with Terry Gilliam on the TalkHouse Podcast, confirming he's directing Episode VIII and talked about his experiences with it so far. Come inside to see what he has to say about Disney/Lucasfilm giving directors plenty of freedom, when he expects to start shooting, and how the script is coming along!
First of all, I think it's worth noting that this is really the first time we've seen Rian Johnson confirm he's direction Episode VIII. He's largely played coy with the question before, talking about it without saying anything directly, and it's funny because despite knowing it's going to happen...the studios haven't made an official announcement. Greg Grunberg is teaming up with his childhood friend J.J. Abrams again, the former dropping a tweet indicating that he's set to have a cameo in the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VII".
Grunberg has been with Abrams for sometime. He was a regular on the Abrams-produced "Felicity" and "Alias," had a cameo as the pilot of the ill-fated Oceanic Flight 815 in "Lost," and had small appearances in "Mission: Impossible III," "Super 8" and even "Star Trek" (he was the voice of James Kirk's stepfather). Here's his tweet:
Yes @smgulz it Is safe to assume I have a role in #StarWarsEpisodeVII - If I say more than that, Jj will have me killed.

Um.
Did we break it?
All it took was one week of Star Wars: Episode VII news for me to completely turn around on how I view this production. If you try to form a narrative out of the production so far, all the rumors of infighting and tribulations really make this look like the end, not the pinnacle of Jj Abrams dependability as a blockbuster storyteller.
Somewhere around Alias, he wasn’t the Regarding Henry guy anymore and somewhere around Mi:3 everyone was eating up his storytelling philosophy like the “mystery box.” Then, Super 8 happened and the collective fandom was a bit disappointed in how that movie aped old Amblin movies without successfully planting the heart that made old Amblin films so successful.
Then, George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney and Lucas passed off his notes to Kathleen Kennedy who got Lawrence Kasdan, writer of the Original Trilogy sequels,...

Looper director Rian Johnson is set to write and direct the next two Star Wars movies. Not to be confused with the spin-offs which Gareth Edwards and Josh Trank will helm, these are Episode VIII & IX (or eight and nine if your Roman is a bit dodgy). Regardless of the size of Jj Abrams boots, Johnson has quite the amount of Star Wars franchise now placed solely on his shoulders. Jj is starting the ball rolling, but it is now Johnson who is tasked with keeping it rolling. Taking to Twitter, the director posted a clip from The Right Stuff which you can see below, and obviously sums all of this up perfectly. It’s an interesting selection of directors overall though. Relatively youung guys with small filmographies (Godzilla was Edwards second feature) and “limited” experience. However, with that comes an absolutely epic hunger and no doubt love of the originals.

New Release
The Protector 2
R, 1 Hr., 44 Mins.
Thai martial-arts maestro Tony Jaa’s newest film overloads on terrible F/X that rob the film of the actor’s usual brute-force balleticism. Also, RZA plays the bad guy — and someone needs to tell the Wu-Tang master that he can’t act (or fight). The Protector 2 does have a loony charm (actual line of dialogue: “You lost your elephant again?”), and Jija Yanin Wismitanan has a scene-stealing turn as a lady warrior seeking — wait for it — vengeance. Huck Botko's Bad Johnson is probably the most thoughtful movie possible about a penis that takes human form.
Blaming his genitals after yet another relationship is ruined by his inability to say no to the women who keep throwing themselves at him, hunky personal trainer Rich Johnson (Cam Gigandet) awakens one morning to find his crotch as smooth as a Ken doll's, and that his penis has now taken on the form of a slovenly bro (Nick Thune) who remains determined to run, and destroy, Rich's life. But it's a life that goes on.
Unlike other recent movies that have posited emasculation as a fate worse than death — yeah, you, Dom Hemingway — Bad Johnson remains surprisingly mellow about the aftermath, becoming a not-terrible relationship comedy...

“I wish my d*ck would just leave me alone.” No, really, that’s the first key line of dialogue in Cam Gigandet’s “Bad Johnson.” Purporting to be a comedy (!?), the movie is about a charismatic womanizer who receives his comeuppance after his penis mysteriously leaves his body and takes human form. No, really. And then his penis, well, turns into a total dick. "It's me your penis," Gigandet’s penis (played by a bearded Nick Thune) says at one point greeting him in his car. The rest of the trailer is… special. Very, very special. Directed by Huck Botko (“Mail Order Wife”), written by Jeff Tetreault and co-starring Jamie Chung and Kevin Miller, you have to see this trailer to believe it. This just looks spectacularly… wrong is perhaps the PC way to put it. Early contender for Razzie of the year? Indie distribs Gravitas Ventures is actually...

Also read: Cam Gigandet's Raunchy Comedy ‘Bad Johnson’ Acquired by Gravitas Ventures But none of that can top the latest film from Cam Gigandet, who appeared as an evil vampire in the first film in the sparkly bloodsucker teen melodrama: “Bad Johnson,” a movie in which he is such a helpless womanizer.

Set up as a sort of phallic "Big", "Bad Johnson" stars Cam Gigandet ("Twilight") as Rich, a good-looking douche bag who treats woman like crap and hates his penis for it. His life is hard. In the trailer we see Gigandet get dumped by yet another girlfriend (Jamie Chung), who chucks a knife at him after he cheats on her. Disappointed with himself, Rich wishes "his dick would leave him alone" in the hopes that it will make him a better person. Too bad his dick ends up being Dick, a personified and more vicious version of his member, played by comedian Nick Thune. Desperate to reattach himself with his "Bad Johnson", Rich also comes to learn the right way to treat a woman. It's a pretty obvious formula, but hopefully the human penis will bring enough laughs. Check out the trailer below:...

Working at this website, we are inundated daily with new movie information surrounding all sorts of projects, big and small. A lot of times we don't have the time or ability to report on them even if they are deserving of being recognized by our readers. But, sometimes, a project just cannot be ignored. Keep in mind, I am not saying it means it is good, just that you have to see it to believe it exists. Bad Johnson starring Cam Gigandet and Jamie Chung is the sort of movie you may stumble...

After his constant infidelities alienate yet another girlfriend (Jamie Chung, The Hangover Parts II & III, Sucker Punch), he wishes he could say goodbye to his ‘little friend.’ The next morning he awakes in horror to find that his wish has been granted and his penis has taken human form: A disgusting, selfish, oversexed jerk riotously portrayed by comedian Nick Thune (Knocked Up). Pitted against his alter ego,...

Ahead of this week's release of G.I. Joe: Retaliation, here's Duncan's report from the press conference...
Last week saw the rather expansive and impressive cast for G.I. Joe: Retaliation hit London to promote the film. The press conference followed on from an early morning screening of an unfinished print of the film (though I’m unsure what was missing, as everything seemed in place, including some sharp 3D and what appeared to be extra Channing Tatum scenes).
And while I can’t say much at this point, it’s safe to say that as someone who had no time for the first G.I. Joe movie, The Rise Of Cobra, for ruining the comic book mythology in every conceivable way, I’m pleased to say that Retaliation goes some way to mending the depictions and motivations of the characters. Plus, if the onscreen presence...

Dwayne Johnson has several films coming out, which means that he's out speaking to the press and answering questions about his future projects. In a recently interview with ComingSoon, the actor spoke about a franchise that he would like to join and his look in the upcoming "Hercules" movie. "'Star Wars,'" said Johnson about the franchise he wishes he could join. "And that.s not to say that they need it. Obviously they're doing very well. Jj [Abrams] is just gonna crush it. I'm so excited." The actor then pulled out his cell phone and showed several reporters a photo of him as Hercules from the film's costume fitting. The photo has been described as Johnson dressed up as Whiplash (Mickey Rourke) from "Iron Man 2." He has long hair and a long black beard. Johnson once again confirmed that there are plans to give his "Fast and Furious" character...

There's been a ton of casting rumors surrounding several of the characters from James Gunn's Marvel film Guardians of the Galaxy. Today we've got some more names to add to the list thanks to Cbm, who has casting updates on Rocket Raccoon, Drax and Gamora.
They confirm that Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler are up for the role of Rocket Raccoon. They also add that the studio is also looking at voice actors such as Jon Benjamin, who are known for having good comedic timing and quick wit. Rocket Raccoon is going to have a decent sized role in the film, and they want him to work well on the big screen.
As for Drax the Destroyer, we previously heard that Brian Patrick Wade (The Guardian), former WWE Superstar Dave Bautista (Man With The Iron Fists), and Old Spice guy Isaiah Mustafa were up for the part. We've now...

1.) Even though The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo came out just a little over a year ago, it seems like we've been waiting forever for confirmation on David Fincher's next film. Well, that project may have arrived as Fincher is in talks to direct Fox's adaptation of "amazon asin="030758836X" text="Gone Girl"", the Gillian Flynn novel that has sold 2 million copies to date. The dark, mysterious story tells of a woman who goes missing on the day of her fifth wedding anniversary. So yeah, it sounds like a Fincher movie already. Fincher is also still attached to direct Disney's long-gestating 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea remake, so it's anyone's guess which film he makes first. Fincher has recently been looking for other projects in the case 20,000 Leagues falls through or suffers further delays from the studio's end, and it seems Gone Girl is the first to gain serious attention.

Yes, it's titled New Girl. But if you’re like me, you watch this sitcom just as much for Jess as for Schmidt, Winston and, of course, Nick, played by Jake Johnson.
To which beloved comic character does the actor compare Nick? How will things go when Sports Illustrated model Brooklyn Decker appears on next week’s episode? And will Nick and Jess ever be more than roommates?
Johnson gave TV Fanatic some surprising answers when he sat down for a chat at the Fox All-Star Party last week...

TV Fanatic: Nick’s romantic life is so much fun because you almost assume he is going to screw something up.
Jake Johnson: I kind of feel like Nick, in terms of romance, is a bit of an adult Charlie Brown and what I mean by that... season one I didn’t understand who Nick was at all and...

We love curmudgeonly Nick Miller on Fox’s New Girl…mostly because he’s the guy who uses words like “curmudgeonly.” But we love the guy who plays him, Jake Johnson, even more. Jj came in for a “dy-no-mite” appearance on the InsideTV Podcast to gab about all things New Girl. He spills on-the-set secrets like what went down during his big sleigh sex scene with Olivia Munn, how he was publicly embarrassed in front of the crew, and whether Nick and Jess will ever actually hook up. “There’s a big Nick-Jess development,” reveals Johnson. Say What?!? That’s right,...

All of the week's hot casting news in one fell swoop ...
• James Franco continues to provide evidence that he lives in a world where there are more than 24 hours in a day. According to Deadline, the crazy busy thespian has added "The Grace That Keeps This World" to his insane schedule, a family drama co-starring Brit Marling and Glenn Close that follows a father and his sons as they prepare for the upcoming hunting season.
• Michelle Williams, whom we haven't seen on the big screen since "My Week With Marilyn," is in talks to star in "Suite Francaise" for English director Saul Dibb ("The Duchess"). Williams would be playing, according to Variety, "a spirited young woman in occupied France who falls for a German officer and must choose between love and her country." She'll probably find a way to choose both.
• The con is on with Ben Affleck! Deadline reports...
