Madness

This kind of episode is why I tune in to Community each and every week. It is the most original show on television and it does not deserve to be canceled. The episode is supposed to be a parody of "Hearts of Darkness" which is a documentary on the making of Apocalypse Now. I have never seen this documentary, yet I still love this episode. The plot revolves around the Dean (Jim Rash) and his new task of filming a commercial to update the old Greendale commercial, which looks like it was filmed in 1991. After a bit more exposition, the Dean eventually realizes that former student Luis Guzman wants to be in the commercial. After this, the episode descends into complete madness in a style that only Community can bring us. The reason it works so well is that the acting and directing is very good. Jim Rash is an excellent actor and should be commended for his performance in this one. Community is the very best show on television. Nothing else in the history of TV has brought us episodes so unique from each other that you have to remind yourself that you are watching the same show, but at the same time achieves excellence in all styles that it attempts. The people who work on this show do not only enjoy stepping out of their comfort zone and trying something new and unique, they thrive by committing to such ideas. Even if the show is over after this season, I will feel lucky that I got to see such an amazing show that really deserves much more recognition than it gets.

One of the Best, if not the Best Episode of Season Three

This episode was hilarious from beginning to end. The title of this episode Documentary Filmmaking: Redux is a play on the Title Apocalypse Now Redux, Apocalypse Now is referenced a few times during the show saying that Hearts of Darkness (the documentary about the making of the film Apocalypse now) was actually far superior to the film it was documenting.

Dean Pelton is one of the best characters on the show, alongside Senor Chang, and it is nice to see him at the forefront of an episode as the main protagonist.

The basic plot of this episode is that the Dean is given some money to make a new commercial for Greendale Community College and instantly takes on the persona of an out of control director claiming no one understands his artistic vision. Slowly everyone becomes a little bit crazy at the stress of it all.

Jeff films some of his scenes in front of a Luis Guzman statue knowing that legally they can't use those images without Guzman's consent, when Guzman is notified of this he volunteers to be in the commercial further pushing the Dean's ego as artistic visionary.

This episode is just full of hilarity from beginning to end.

The highest level of playing for these actors ever. good strory and they played the best. by the way, i ve thought that matthew mcconaughey dubbed the dean for a while. especially with that white singlet on him. that was good.

Makes me burst out in laughter everytime, all the easter eggs shown here is also amazing. Jim Rash is phenomenal, Joel McHale does a great job in portraying his Jeff-Dean role, and I think ALL of the cast really shows how talented they are in this episode. Even the recurring characters like Magnitude, Garrett, Leonard, and Fat Neil all show up and are great with their reactions and line delivery.

Jeff's Dean

Warning: Spoilers
Jeff Winger's imitation of Dean Pelton was just off the planet, and should go down in the halls of celebrity imitations for sure. Why didn't Joel McHale get an Emmy for this episode?

The references to Hearts of Darkness was sublime for sure, and the cameo by Luis Guzman, topped off by Jeff Garlin, made this a 10/10 for sure.

Again, awesome, i love how community always manages to find something in society to mock. i mostly don't like how short they are, now i've caught up to watching them live i have to wait a week for only 20 minutes of entertainment.

This particular episode needed a bit more abed, but allowed for more character development with Britta and troy which i think has potential.

I noticed in the final hug sequence a major mistake on the production side, i saw a camera man! i doubt he was supposed to be there, and it definitely wasn't Abed.

But, in all, was still community, loved it
