World's Most Dangerous Roads is a BBC's series in which two celebrities are filmed as they travel by 4x4 vehicle along roads considered freakishly dangerous in the world. The couple(new in every episode) travel from icy Dalton road in Alaska to majestic high roads of Nepal. From cold tough roads of Siberia to Dense forests of Africa. The mode of the show is very light, where original raw dialogue between the couple is also presented in lighter fashion. The show may also help learn about the cultures and road etiquette of different countries. Moreover, the travel documentary is ably narrated by actor Adrian Dunbar.

Enjoyed but Silly in Parts
ritafair23 October 2021
The Siberia episode was very interesting because of the history and scenery, but the drivers were particularly inept. Or they got stuck on purpose to add more drama. The Alaska, Nepal and Peru episodes were better with challenging sections of road and conditions. I really enjoyed the photography, information on culture and history. The driver teams were occasionally quite funny.

Follow up: As I watch more episodes I find myself cringing at some of the comments by the drivers. They are sometimes dismissive and occasionally sarcastic about the people and culture. They sound shallow and uninformed.

Second follow up. Subsequent episodes (Madagascar and Bolivia) redeem the series.

World's Most Dangerous Numpties

The idea behind this series sounded good - having adventures on perilous roads around the world. The actual execution of this production, however, left a lot to be desired.

Production methods were used to exaggerate the "danger" of the terrain. As an example, I noticed many instances of close shots repeatedly inserted that showed the wheels of the vehicle rolling perilously close to the edge of a great precipice. And then the wider shots showed they were nowhere near the edge of the road.

The celebrity personalities chosen for these drives seemed to have little to no experience in off-road driving, and often seemed challenged to be able to handle relatively minor obstacles. Their banter was all too often childish and gave the impression of not being very intelligent. I found myself using the fast forward button to skip past most of the scenes where these people were jabbering inside the cars. I really had hoped that more of the scenery and history of the locales would have been covered, instead of being subjected to this banal tripe.

There were some instances where the drivers were clearly not worthy of these drives, and should have never been allowed behind the wheel. The worst example of this was when Sue Perkins lost her nerve in the middle of a total whiteout blizzard and stopped her vehicle diagonally across the road on a curve where heavy truck traffic would not be able to see it in time to avoid a very nasty collision. When Charley Boorman scrambled to take the wheel and get them out of the predicament, Sue further endangered things by chasing after her "lucky hat" when a gust of wind blew it away as she climbed back into the car.

It's too bad that all the effort in producing this series resulted in something that I would rather forget.

I love this show

Wish there were more seasons. I like the cast and the locations they chose. Very entertaining and fun to watch. I stumbled across this show while trying to decide what to watch on Amazon prime. I would definitely watch season 4 if bbc decides to revive the series.

Pretty good just for the roads and atmosphere

Yes it is from the BC so there are a lot of stuffy, pompous, posh ,British people in the series. Funny though the woman are the strong ones that hardly complain while the men are the biggest cry babies I've seen. Seriously, season 1 episode 2 is cringe to 100. These two grown men cry and complain like babies. They are on a bus full of CHILDREN and they are almost hanging out the window ready to jump. The way they acted makes me wonder what happened to them as children. Grown men scared to death while the kids are just chilling in their seats probly wondering if those two white men are actually women in men's clothing. Season 3 episode 1 is another example of stuffy ,sheltered, posh British stereotypes. The woman was kinda cool, but the "man" she was with reminds me of someone home schooled, private finishing school,Oxford, trust fund, and t.v. Job femboy. Never done manual labor. Never changed the oil in his own car. Wouldn't know an axe from a hatchet. " OH my God look that Ferry boat doesn't have an engine. Their using ropes" with a tone and look like they honestly never knew that was an actual thing people have done for centuries. They act like it's just a show, have no reactions except to complain about the bumps. Show NO joy in off roading. They are on a show called "Dangerous Roads" and actually get surprised when the roads are bad. They are just stiff, joyless, doing a job for money, wish the roads were paved, whiners. They ask locals "why are you traveling these roads" like they can't believe locals would really want to use them. No clue that it's their only road, they love it,never known any other roads, and depend on it for their lives. Putting these types of people in shows like this was such a stupid idea. Not to mention when they couldnt cross the bridge and had to sleep in the vehicle, old man actually took the back seat and made her sleep on the front passenger seat. What an entitled w^#%@*. The cast ruined it,nothing else. Cast real men and women next time. The ONLY cool guy I saw was s2 e3 David Baddiel. He acted like a rally man out there for some fun and adventure.

Celebs who really wish they weren't there
alanfisher20018 December 2022
Whilst the premise seems interesting, driving in various places on dangerous roads in a travel programme format, the reality is not at all interesting.. Rather than focussing on the regions they are in, there is just countless in car footage. The two 'celebs' seem to put on forced conversations, like, ohh, good driving, whilst clearly thinking that bumping along in a car is no way to spend any time. The lack of chemistry between the couples, makes them seem like two people who really have never met, don't get on and are forced to be polite stuck in a car. I watched a few episodes to give it a chance but soon realised even if nothing better was on the television, I would be better just turning it off.

Sorely disappointed. Having family that has driven the actual ice roads, and myself being a previous truck driver.this was over dramatic and while I get its TV. It's not a documentary in the slightest

Not entertaining, just another lame reality sh!tshow
brotherthew23 June 2021
Train wreck of a show featuring: Hosts who are rude, weak premise, driver whos intentionally create hazardous situations, and EVERY. SINGLE. SCENE has been edited to add more drama than witnessed throughout my entire high school career. This is the type of television that needs to just stop already. Needs to skip the ridiculous reality tv shenanigans, this show just emphasized how lame the entire genre is.

David Baddiel
egghurler-821495 March 2022
David Baddiel has to be the single most insufferable traveller on the planet. Bar none. What a massive MASSIVE casting disaster. He alone makes S2.3 unwatchable. Why on earth did he bother leaving his loungeroom?

Getting stuck in 2WD
Randy-Hudson24 February 2019
These guys get stuck over and over and only manage to spin a single rear wheel. Even though the cars they use are 4WD, they leave them in 2WD for no reason. After making huge holes in the side of the road, they engage the 4WD and drive away easily.

Safety
pollymariejones24 February 2024
I like the programme but I wonder how much safety wise the roads are checked before the celebrities drive them I mean it would only take one error for them to fall over the side or a part of the cliff to give way do the celebrities have to sign something to say they are doing it knowing the dangers apart from all that the programme shows you places you are unlikely to see I am watching the Hugh bonneville programme I doubt the way the world is today they wouldn't be allowed in the country I would love the type of car they drive I think you would feel safer in one of those rather than my skoda citigo.
