- For Arthur's birthday feast, Camelot is visited by entertainers, including the Gleeman (an assassin paid by rival king Odin). The Gleeman is killed by Uther, who is himself severely wounded, causing Arthur to consider magic as a cure. Using a spell to age himself, Merlin poses as an elderly wizard to heal Uther in exchange for an amnesty for sorcerers from Arthur. Morgana, however, takes countermeasures which result in the king's death, and so the ban on magic remains; however, the newly-crowned Arthur tells Merlin how much he respects his loyalty - whilst still unaware of his powers.—don @ minifie-1
- An assassin comes to Camalot among entertainers gathered for Arthur's birthday celebration. Though the prince is the target, it's Uther who sustains a mortal wound while dispatching his son's would-be killer. As the unconscious king lies on his deathbed, Arthur, in desperation, decides to turn to magic for help. Seeing this as an opportunity to end the Pendragon purge against wizards, Merlin, in his guise as the aged Emrys, agrees to restore Uther, but Agravaine, knowing Arthur's plan, gets a charm from Morgana to hang around Uther's neck that will reverse any magical efforts to make him well.—statmanjeff
