A version was finished and released on YouTube in 2015, with narration to describe the missing scenes. This version was remastered in 2021 and released on Vimeo in upscaled high definition. For this final cut, the majority of the movie was re-edited, new footage has been added, all of the visual effects were redone, and the footage was subjected to AI upscaling using Topaz Labs software. Furthermore, Haralds Baumanis drew extensive storyboards to visualise the missing scenes.
Originally began production under the title 'The Power of the Ring 3: The War for the Ring,' and was planned as a sequel to two previous amateur productions. However, with the script increasingly undergoing more rewrites, and with continuous reshoots, the project developed into a self-contained, standalone reboot of the series.
Principal photography was ongoing from 2006 until early 2010. Due to a lack of interest from longstanding cast and crew, as well as other logistical issues, the production was abandoned and several scenes were never filmed. These missing scenes have been created using storyboards and voiceovers, with a voice cast being recruited to play the remaining roles.
The last day of filming during the original shoot before the project was abandoned occurred in February of 2010. Filming restarted 13 years later almost to the day, on January 29, 2023.
Location scouting for the medieval scenes took place all over Newcastle, but many locations were unsuitable as they had changed over time or the bushland had been cleared away. An appropriate filming location was eventually discovered in the same area where these scenes were intended to be filmed back in 2007.
