Episode 1 and 2 both began filming together, and Episode 2 actually wrapped filming before Episode 1 did. Some small scenes for Episode 3, and even scenes for a potential Season 2, were shot in this bulk of filming too. They were all scenes where the Wild West Town set was needed.
The shooting of Episode 2 was actually halted for a number of hours one day by a nearby murder investigation, as police helicopters were flying over the forest that was being used as location.
Treacle was used for Zelda's chewing tobacco, which had to constantly be topped up between takes. In takes where it had to dribble out of her mouth, actress Gemma Wallace would have to hold a mixture of toffee, treacle, and water in her mouth for minutes at a time.
The scene in Barth's office, where Cliff and Jeb prepare for the town hall meeting, was the first scene shot for the show.
16 members of the cast and crew travelled all the way from Leeds (some even travelling from as far as London) up to Aberdeen, to shoot on a Wild West Town set located up there. It is named 'Tranquility Wild West Town', and the cast and crew slept on the set itself for their 5 day stay there. With only 10 beds available, some slept on hammocks, and director Ashley Nashville and producer Anna Tempest-Mitchell slept in cars.
