I must confess that there were a couple of moments from this motion comic short that were a bit hard for me to take seriously despite its gritty tone, mostly because due how adorable the characters looked, sometimes making silly cute faces amidst very intense moments.
It almost felt like someone tried to make a dramatic movie inspired by lolcats. Sure, sometimes the juxtaposition between cute characters and dramatic plot can be pulled off effectively (Take for example the movie Unicorn Wars) Here instead, it feel a bit distracting at moments.
That said, I don't think it was as bad as the other reviewer claims. From a technical standpoint, the animation looks fine. And considering how limited most motion-comics tend to be (See Stephen King's N.) there is a genuine effort made here to create an alternate world with an intense, thrilling atmosphere. The effects were good too.
I sincerely would love to see an expanded story on this same setting, which has a lot of potential to explore in its darkly satirical take of the horrors of war and business industry behind it, an aspect constantly overlooked by most Hollywood movies, more focused to create a "good vs. Evil" narrative.
A bit flawed, but worth-watching anyway. A pretty decent effort which deserves more recognition.
