Brendan Coyle has spoken to Digital Spy about progress on the fourth series of Downton Abbey, billing it as the show's best yet.
Coyle, who plays Lord Grantham's valet John Bates, said that he is very grateful to writer Julian Fellowes for the storylines he has been given in the upcoming run of the period drama.
"I'm going to stick my neck out and say it's our best series ever. It's certainly my best series ever," said Coyle.
"I'm really, really grateful for Julian for that. My storylines are phenomenal... And I'm not going to die in a car crash!"
Coyle also spoke about his close friendship with Us co-star Shirley MacLaine, joking that the pair are to marry.
"We're in love and we're moving to Santa Fe. She's invited me to her ranch. I love Shirley MacLaine," he said.

Ruth Negga won a host of admirers with her portrayal of Shirley Bassey on BBC TV last year. Now she's set to break through with a major Channel 4 spy drama and a role in Steve McQueen's next movie
Ruth Negga looks over her shoulder. "Hold on a minute," she says, leaning back to peer beneath our cafeteria table on an upper floor of the Riba building in central London. She bends to look under her chair. "Where is my movie career?"
The 30-year-old actor is clowning, and this is her way of telling me I've touched on a subject that has come up before. A best newcomer nominee at the Olivier Awards back in 2003, Negga has had memorable success in the theatre across the intervening decade, particularly at the National: Aricia next to Helen Mirren's Phèdre, Ophelia opposite Rory Kinnear's Hamlet. And she's done plenty of...

Thanks to Emmanuel, who's becoming the S & A go-to guy for mixed race actresses with career issues - Ethiopian/Irish actress Ruth Negga has become the hot topic lately (Here). So I wanted to see her 2011 BBC bio-pic, Shirley, about the early years in the life and career of British singer Shirley Bassey. Bassey never really became a big household name in the U.S., but in the U.K. she's a legend. And not really knowing a lot about her past life, except she had a hard-scrabble childhood, I thought the film would be interesting and would give me a look at Negga, since, although I've heard of her, I haven't seen her in anything up to now. Well lucky...

Glenn Close, Albert Nobbs John Michael McDonagh's The Guard, reportedly the most successful independently made Irish production ever, won four top prizes at the 2012 Irish Film and Television Awards, held this evening in Dublin. The story of a tough, cynical, hard-drinking cop who goes after three drug dealers, McDonagh's comedy thriller won awards for Best Irish Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay (also McDonagh), and Best Supporting Actress for Fionnula Flanagan — who also happened to be the recipient of the Irish Film and Television Academy's Lifetime Achievement Award. Additionally, the London-born McDonagh received the Irish Film Board Rising Star Award. [List of Irish Film and Television Drama winners.] The Guard's star, Brendan Gleeson, lost the Best Actor Award to Shame's Michael Fassbender, who, in the United States, was recently bypassed by both the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Academy Awards. Along with Lorraine Pascale, Sophie Dahl is another of the BBC's roster of models-turned-domestic-goddesses. Dahl's show isn't simply a cook-to-camera affair, though. As Dahl discovers, although we imagine Mrs B as a middle-aged matriarch, she wrote the book in her early 20s, and by 28, was dead. John Robinson
