Warning: Spoilers
The time is late August, 1776. The place is New York. The two forces of the ragtag Americans and the powerful British redcoats are mustering for an epic confrontation that may determine the outcome of the Revolutionary War.

9,000 Americans are surrounded in Brooklyn by a total force of 30,000 British troops. William Alexander, Lord Sterling, was born in New York and has decided to fight with the Americans. His courageous stand in Brooklyn would save countless American lives against the relentless British cannonade.

In 1776, two-thirds of New Yorkers were loyalists. Washington had to contend with spies and those who would funnel vital information to General Howe and the British forces. There was no "home field advantage" here.

Jamaica Pass gives Howe the opportunity to outflank the Amerians. Howe leaves Flatbush and heads through the Jamaica Pass, leading him to a vital position behind enemy lines. The Americans are now caught in a pincer move. Complete panic and chaos ensures. Washington needs to act decisively and must adjust to the situation. He leads the battle himself. The "Maryland 400" (actually, only 250) make a brave stand against the British. They sacrifice their lives so that the Americans can escape.

On August 29, Washington calls a council of war. Trapped in Brooklyn Heights, Washington uses cunning and tactical deception: he will evacuate! Every skiff the men can muster will be found. This will not be an attack, but a daring retreat!

9,500 Americans are ferried across the East River under the cover of darkness, By the morning, the weather delivers the Americans with a lucky break: a thick fog that comes to be known as "The Miracle of the Mist." The last man out on the last boat at 7am is George Washington.

Due to Washington, the Americans have extracted themselves from a fatal pincer movement. In Manhattan, another battle rages, and another disaster ensues, followed by Washington's retreat to New Jersey. Washington has realized that keeping the armed forces in tact is more important than winning big battles. The escape from Brooklyn with 9,000 troops is one of the great military feats in history.
