Interesting look about a group of adolescents of lower class in suburban barrios and their problems with parents and teachers
ma-cortes17 November 2013
Alex , Gaby and Oki are three misunderstood adolescents from lower class living in a big city . They are unadapted and unknown children for their parents , teachers and themselves . Their emotional loneliness and isolation to be led to unexpected and tragic consequences . They are ESO students and at school they have troubles with teachers and partners . Meanwhile , the teens dedicate themselves their hobbies such as Flamenco dancing , Kick-boxing and graffiti on walls . At the end takes place an astounding tragedy .

¨Los Niños Salvajes¨ or ¨Els Nens Salvatges¨ is one of several movies dealing with Spanish adolescence and their particularities such as : rude education , jobless , sex , drugs , and delinquency , all of them interwoven with problematic parents-children relationships . This genre achieved splendor during the 70s and early 80s such as ¨Perros Callejeros I and II¨, ¨Perras Callejeras¨ , ¨ Los Ultimos Golpes Del Torete¨, ¨Yo el Vaquilla¨, mostly realized by Jose Antonio De La Loma , ¨Navajeros , "Colegas", "El Pico 2" by Eloy De La Iglesia and especially ¨Deprisa , Deprisa¨ by Carlos Saura and later ¨La Estanquera De Vallecas ¨ , among others . These films were notorious in the years of the Spanish transition to democracy including provoking and polemic issues and played by unknown young people . Drugs , delinquency, and generational problems are the habitual subjects in these films and specially dedicated to the underworld of heroin and a very realistic look . In "Los Niños Salvajes" or "The Wild Children" there is a similar premise , as some unfortunate as well as hapless teenagers from lower class living hardly in Barcelona streets , then they carry out tiny crimes and misdemeanors and go into a closed mall with unexpected consequences . We see their troubles with teachers and parents , at the same time growing in such streets , slums or "barrio" from Barcelona outskirts and some fine locations . The director creates a sort of Spanish Neo-Realism by tackling the Spanish way of life of a group of teenagers in the streets from a sociological point of view ; being rightly portrayed the city of Barcelona of the 2000s , in the so-called popular neighbourhoods . Filmmaker Patricia Ferreira shows the ugliness of those "barrios" , toughness and cold existence along with some nice kick-boxing scenes . The main cast is pretty well , including young and rookie actors . The support cast is formed by experienced players such as Aina Clotet as Júlia , José Luis García Pérez as Luis , Emma Vilarasau , Merce Pons and Ana Fernández who usually plays for the director .

Colorful and evocative cinematography by Sergi Gallardo , being filmed on location in Barcelona and Sevilla . Atmospheric as well as sensitive musical score by Pablo Cervantes , Jose Luis Garci's ordinary . The motion picture was professionally directed by Patricia Ferreira , realizing in realistic style and usual camera movement . Patricia began working in cinema in the 2000s filming shorts and documentary , and has realized a few films , usually Thrillers and Dramas such as 2005 Para Que no me Olvides , 2002 El Alquimista Impaciente or The Impatient Alchemist and 2000 Sé Quién Eres .

Warning: Spoilers
Families are the basic units of our society. There are different levels of power in our society as well as within families. Children, who are often not respected as a whole person, are ripped off of their right to choose and to decide. Their voices are often left unheard and parents may not always understand the responsibility of having children.

This movie speaks to this problem using a non-linear approach, showing audience the lives of 3 teenagers in a gang - graffiti artist Alex, kickboxer Gabi and a pretty girl, Oki, from a rich family. When they gather, they live the worry-free teenage lives, they laugh and they have fun, but once they are back at home, they are suppressed and forced to share the distasteful problems of adult lives with their parents.

The drama lies in the interaction and choices made by teachers and parents, reflecting their world view, suggesting how their selfishness or ignorance affect their children. In this movie, the adults are rarely in a good mood, and the kids rarely smile when they are home.

As the movie progresses, tension builds up from unsolved family problems. (Spoiler) The parents carelessly murder the dreams and the innocence of their children, and who is the final murderer?
