Don't believe these positive reviews
the_aids_giver31 March 2017
Take a look at them. Most are made by people who have been "members" on IMDb for as long as the lifespan of a Mayfly.

These writings are clearly made by shills. This is the most blatant abuse of IMDb reviews I have ever seen. You'd think they would try harder with their scam to make it seem more convincing.

Why put all that effort into covering for a below average genre vehicle when they could've, instead, put the effort into making a good movie?

So many fake reviews
davejessop-128 March 2017
I normally won't review something however good or bad but after seeing a lot of the fake 9 and 10 ratings by members of the cast and crew it needs a balanced HONEST review - after all, people look at the overall rating and reviews to choose a film don't they? At the time of writing this has a 7.7 rating - so it's almost on a par with The Omen and The Exorcist right?

The dialogue is false and forced - the main 4 "actors" got tong-tied over and over again and nothing seemed natural - why didn't the director just say "try it one more time"?

Poor editing and ADR work - I know it was low budget but at least try and be professional about it - at times it looked like the whole film was dubbed badly

The story was decent but how many "bereaved parents life disintegrates in a supernatural setting" films need to be made? - There are many better ones and this is just full of cliché

If you want to be professionals then act like professionals and not have a "that will do" attitude - this made Ed Wood look like Hitchcock

If you make a film don't fake reviews and ratings because it really makes you sad, pathetic and needy

4/10 at best

Hilariously Bad. At first. Then it's Just Painful...
ctrahan1222 September 2017
First and foremost, for anyone skeptical about the widespread accusations of fake, highly positive reviews for this movie, there is good news. All you have to do is watch the trailer, or the first few minutes, to find out how much of a joke it is. Really. It's that conspicuously bad.

I am entirely certain that the vast majority of raving reviews posted for this film on IMDb are fake. The filmmakers have obviously run a sadly successful campaign of spamming the site with sham accounts, and as another reviewer has pointed out, the ages of these accounts give them away.

I have also looked into many of these accounts to find that "Whispers" is the only film the owner has reviewed since the account's creation. Sloppy and shameful.

On to the actual review:

This movie does one thing well. It manages to be entertaining in its sophomoric attempt at suspense and psychological horror. It does this for about the first ten minutes. Then it's just the kind of bad that makes you want to fall into a deep sleep, and upon waking, express your anger and bewilderment at its IMDb rating.

There isn't much to be said about the film's substance. It has none. The actors are so bad that they turn a substandard horror/thriller script into what plays out like a soap opera. Everything that the film tries to do falls flat. The parts of the script that could have worked as semi-decent horror are utterly ruined by the poor execution of everything from acting to set design, cinematography and editing.

At first, trying to keep an open mind, I thought: maybe surrealism? Absurdism? Maybe it's trying to be this incoherent and ridiculous? I actually couldn't tell if it was intended or if it was simply the generally clunky performance of the actors and filmmakers. However, intended or not, it quickly ceases to be entertaining, and also becomes exceedingly obvious that "Whispers" takes itself very seriously. Eventually, after wasting 90 minutes of my life, I came to the incontrovertible conclusion that, no. This movie is just bad. No need to overthink it. The filmmakers certainly didn't.

Don't Bother
briancbrb24 March 2017
This was just terrible. Quite possibly the worst movie I've ever seen and I've seen Ishtar. There is nothing scary about this movie, it's not horror. It's suspenseful drama at best, and that's giving it too much credit. If you watch this movie you will wish you could get that hour and a half of your life back...but you can't. I unfortunately went off the average review and didn't actually read the red box reviews, until after I watched it. It was then that I realized all the 4 &5 star reviews all made reference to "girl power" and "go girl". I guess if a woman directs a movie it's automatically a great movie. My fiancé and I disagree.

A review for REDBOX viewers
nickijjohnson24 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Got this crap movie at Redbox because of IMDb good reviews. What the hell? Did I see a different movie? I hated this film from start to finish. Mediocre acting mixed with incredibly forgettable characters. The opening of this movie was so pointless and didn't have anything to do with the rest of the film. There's also some Grudge looking ghost girl that had no point in being there. Half of the movie is the mundane leading woman's dreams which is a typical supernatural horror movie cop out. The flashbacks of their therapy sessions were almost comical since the therapist in the scenes never said anything while the couple argued. Finally the "twist" ending was such a lame attempt at being The Others it was laughable and just left unanswered questions. When did the little girl actually drown? How did she murder everyone? And most importantly they never even say she died yet she's a ghost in the end. And of course since she's a murderer let's usher her into the bright light at the end. What a joke. This movie was forgettable at best but basically just terrible. As far as British horror goes they should leave horror for the Japanese since they're a million times better at it. Though Eden Lake is probably the best British horror film I've seen this film was crap.

Don't believe the ratings
williamszachary523 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
seriously i don't understand how this got so many good ratings its really awful, its slow boring and cheesy, the cinematography is lazy and outdated, the shots are basic, the actors are clearly armatures, there is no plot to speak of, and the 'death' at the beginning is unclear and undeserving of emotion. I'm not even sure who died, but everyone seems to blame the five year old for some reason, not sure how that makes fracking sense, but okay. the weird scenes of the therapy sessions are oddly close in space, all three of them are practically sitting on each other laps. very creepy, in fact that may be the only creepy thing in the movie, certainly not the lame ass reflections of the little girl/melted gremlin that is running around the house not paying rent or doing any chores ungrateful little brat. its bad

Do Not Rent or Buy
allancordray14 April 2017
This movie's reviews (9/10) (8/10) are the biggest troll job since you tubers were rick rolling folks. The camera is literally being walked around the actors in many scenes, the quality is worse than soap operas, the story would have been OK with a higher budget and a director to push the actors and get some actual emotion out of them. Poorly executed I've seen a better horror movie filmed with an iPhone (literally). The CGI (what little there is is completely disappointing and the other ghostly figures just look like mud people from Woodstock. The sound affects come from a soundboard you can download for any smart phone (i.e. The squeaky gate in the trailer and other sounds like the "mommy" cries) the music and voices seem like they can't coincide in this film and they must have used a tape recorder in a conference room to record the actors lines and dub over for the film.

Not your typical horror movie
danadorff28 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This flick is something a little different to all other horror films but does so on it's own terms and satisfies your viewing. The story is slightly slow in places but very effective when it comes to the conclusion. The house or mansion in this case was a cool addition to the tense and creepy vibe you get for most of the film. This film has good reviews from the horror critics and I certainly see why this was on Redbox for a long time and well worth the watch.

UNUSUAL BUT QUITE GOOD
livygold12 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Whispers is a title that works quite well in places and in some scenes were really shot well and gave tension and horror. The only downside was there was drama with the couple losing there kid but it actually works in the finale. The cast were quite solid and the look was Gothic for sure and gave some really dark scenes in many places which made up for the drama filled scenes. The bottom line is you get a worthy horror film that satisfies your horror craving.

A film that is so bad that there is no question whatsoever that the good reviews are all fake
Jon-Targaryen18 June 2017
Have you ever come across a film so bad that you sit there glued to your chair in complete amazement of how exactly it came to be on a diskette, and wondering what you have done so wrong in your life that you are now paying by watching it? If you have not, then I suggest you watch this disaster in movie-making.

decent enough
melblake19 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
A pretty decent flick that keeps you thinking the whole way through, granted this is not a possession movie more of a thinking horror. Pretty decent film that has a twist for the ending when you find out the wife was a ghost that was cool and not expected, not bad acting and camera-work to keep the mood up in this tight indie flick!

Above average ghost tale
ninadelph27 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Today most horror films are so easy to tell what is coming next but with 'whispers' it follows that pattern but does something slightly different. For one i was expecting a totally ghostly ending but they fooled me and went the other way which worked all the more. I liked the look of the film and slow build but in some places it could have taken more risks but for the ghostly tale and tragic loss of the main characters daughter they nailed it on this occasion. I will add this to my horror collection and put it with mystery and dramatic titles so was worth buying on Amazon to watch again or rent to my horror fan friends.

Watch the Trailer
NEFARlOUS18 June 2017
I wholeheartedly agree that the reviews saying this is a good movie are as fake as the Kardashians, but I don't think you need to go through much detecting to spot them. They're all pretty much the same, and have given this snore-fest between an 8 and 10 when it deserves a 2 at the most. Now yes, we all have different tastes, but within those tastes is a thing that is known as universally good or bad. This is one of those films that can be considered 100% universally bad, and I mean that even its creators know it is bad and so had to resort to either placing fake reviews or hiring a firm out to place them. I was going to post the link to one such firm but I don't think IMDb will allow me to and might reject my review because of it, but they are easy enough to Google and after a couple of clicks, you'll find them. At one such place you can get 200 reviews for $50, so we can now put to rest where the creators of this film went to. In closing, I have to agree with other posters. Don't fall for the fakes. Just watch the trailer and keep in mind that in the trailer the makers of this picked the best scenes - you can just imagine the crud that was left for the film itself.

DESPICABLE effort to DECEIVE with FAKE reviews
WindsOfWintergreen17 June 2017
While I understand that if you make a bad film, and you know it is a bad film, and no studio wants to buy it because it is a bad film and you are forced to sell and rent it by yourself on Amazon and through Redbox, the temptation to misrepresent such a film and to falsify and engineer fake reviews must be great. However, there is such a thing known as ethics, and so the practice of such misrepresentation is just despicable.

In short, this film (if one can even call it that) is so awful that the "horror" it is trying to sell you does not come from the screen, but from the realization that you fell for it. It is so dis-interesting and has so many plot holes and so much tedious confusion that one can make a game out of counting just how many plot holes it actually has, and how many times any companions doze off.

To be honest, no description of it can adequately describe its misguided ludicrousness or the way its infinite and varied sins against the traits of good cinema combine to produce one of the most banal, trite, hackneyed, clichéd, vapid, stale, tired and unimaginative films ever.

The good thing is that if one possesses a bit of common sense, spotting the fakes is quite easy. Sort by "Loved It", look at the join dates, other reviews, and look at the similarities in the made-up Reviewed By or Author Names, then click on each name and look at the similarities in all the UserNames (which are all different and purposefully changed from the Reviewed By or Author names). Finally, look at the style of writing in each positive review and especially at the titles, every which one contains the word "Horror!" (although once my review is seen, chances are some will change). Lastly, sort by Chronological order and look at the negative reviews from people who have actually seen it and do not stand to gain or lose be leaving a real review. See how everyone agrees it is utter garbage? Now look again and see how soon after these real reviews, three or four "excellent" ones are posted in order to hide and balance out the negative real ones. Again, pretty simple to spot if you look.

Do yourself a favor and avoid at all costs. Do NOT fall for the four or five reviews saying this is "a woman's film", or the eight reviews all stating that the bad reviewers are "haters" (LAUGH out LOUD), or worse, the four or five reviews that urge you to buy it over renting it. They are, each and every one, fake.

I'll Raise your Real but Negative Review with Two Fake Positive Ones
Man-ln-Black19 June 2017
By now the desperate attempts at deception from the filmmaker to get you to watch have been made pretty obvious by a few "real" reviews, but it seems that a few people keep falling for the amped-up fake thumbs and ratings.

Trust me when I tell you that this movie IS THAT bad and that every single positive review has been left by the same person.

At RedBox, I think they pay out half of what a rental costs, so I guess morals are bought and sold cheaply. As it turns out though, you are able to now actually find clips of this "Whispers (2015) Movie" and see for yourself the reactions of others and better yet, the disaster this film really is.

The film is in effect, so god-awful bad, that the director, Tammi Sutton should stick to what she knows best such as writing fake reviews fo-, oh wait, she's pretty terrible at hat too.

Laughable "Horror"
Selena-Kyle18 June 2017
The creator who is obviously the one who is having a conniption fit in the latest positive reviews needs to seek help and a writing, directing and producing class, stat! This drivel of an awful, laughable "horror" film is worse than sitting through a dentists's appointment, and yet, desperately, the outed creator is still trying to sell the people they imagine as "poor and unwitting" into giving them their $1 per rental. DO NOT DO IT. It would be better to take that dollar and do something much more interesting with it than watch this awful, laughable film, such as, burn it, make an origami peacock out of it, bury it in the yard, put it down next to the newspaper in the parakeet's cage, use it for a magic trick where you tear it in half, donate it, throw it out your window ... there are literally a million things you could do with it that would be far more entertaining that watching this.

Just awful
dementedvampires28 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
(REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS)

When I went looking for another at least decent Horror/Ghost movie, I came upon this on Redbox.com, then came here to check the ratings to see that this received a 7.6.

Now that I've watched it, I must say 7.6 is just a baffling rating for this. This doesn't deserve more than a 4.0, and that's being generous.

This movie is just terrible.

The acting is terrible. The ambient sounds are annoying. The character's are plain uninteresting. The therapy scenes were so boring that I fast forwarded through them, as I couldn't even begin to care. The whole movie was watching people chat/fight and mess with house appliances for an hour and a half. And sometimes a ghost appears and messes with the main character giving her nightmares or some paranormal events occur. Almost no interesting Supernatural/Scary moments. Above all that it builds up this main plot about a "Sinister Darkness" haunting the main character, but ends up leaving a giant hole in the story and ends up never explaining what the "Sinister darkness" even is/was.

This was just one of the most boring "Horror" movies I have ever watched.

Crap and fake reviews
robbinn-354-69103516 May 2017
I will never trust the review system of IMDb after watching this awful waste of time. IMDb should be ashamed of even listing this in their database with fake reviews.

To sum it up then it is awful acting. Soaps do a better job. The director is way off. I wonder where they picked him up. Sound is annoying to say the least. The story doesn't hold water. Then they try to mimic good horror movies in the end like The Others.

Pathetic!

strange but decent movie
jaynehood-2767915 August 2017
That would be my take on this movie indeed it was decent but also strange and i am convinced i loved it yet feel strange with it but i will say that is a good thing with films these days. It is not your average horror but it is still horror with drama built in. If your in the mood for a decent horror story give this a bash can do far worse.

Good but more drama and mystery
maxlewis-0564427 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
So when writing the review for this film its slightly difficult as part of me loved it and the other part wanted more scares, but i have to say at least with this movie i had a satisfying end to the hour and a half i spent watching it. I think i was in the mood for a more Insidious type horror movie but by the end was very happy with what i watched, on the other hand if i was going for horror with drama mixed with mystery this would be the one for me.

Terrible. Just terrible.
quinnmica25 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I literally checked the trailer, went to multiple websites, and pulled the DVD out to check the title after watching the first 5 minutes to make sure I was watching the same movie everyone else was raving about. After confirming, I sat through the whole thing thinking it HAS to get better...we'll, it didn't have to, and it didn't. The writer borrowed some of the best stuff from other movies (the ending? Straight up "The Others" with Nicole Kidman - now there's a good movie) and butchered it. The acting was completely campy, and at times it looked like a play, but not a good one. Words are not adequate to convey just how awful this movie is...I've seen most horror movies out there, and I wouldn't even consider this a "b" one. Don't throw away 2 hours of your life on this!

unusual horror drama
sammyking-9333812 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Well this indie did its job in the horror genre and the drama genre for that it worked well and it was quite unusual too. The score was perfect for the tone of the movie and the actors were quite good too, the landscape where this was set was truly amazing and gave it more of a Gothic type tone, the ghostly images were OK and the darker feel really gave this indie a good take on a genre overdone so many times yet this still gave it a fresh take on a horror flick.

almost Gothic horror and it works
jakehill-5610213 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Whispers is a British horror mystery that feels a little Gothic yet still ghostly, the reason a film like this was captivating to me was simply because it was a basic story, but done a little different at times. The setting is awesome and the mystery was enough for a horror drama, the story starts with a backstory that later on makes sense to the rest of the film and blends it very well with a nice ending. The movie is not your typical run of the mill horror but it does its job and the title ''Whispers'' was a good name that fits the bill and there are far worse flicks out there than this.

What a tangled web we weave
DrFill18 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive, and ladies and gentlemen, make no mistake about it, there is a whole lot of deception going on with these reviews. Luckily, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see through them. The problem is that some people, like me sometimes just look at the rating. With that said, I urge people who have seen this poor excuse of a film to rate it what it deserves and if you watched it with anyone, to get them to rate it as well. In this manner, the deceivers will not be rewarded, we can save our fellow film lovers a headache and "WTF" moment, and lastly, can clean up at least one title on IMDb which has been overrun with the Fake Review disease.

As for the film, it is literally the most boring, limited in scope and breadth, visuals to ever be put to video. The editing is horrific, literally nothing happens for an entire hour and fifteen minutes other than quick shots of the little girl's ghost and her cradle. Nothing. Did I not get the point across? Nothing. If I were any of the cast and crew I would be embarrassed to be associated with it. In fact, Eileen Dietz who played the Demon in the Exorcist was in this film but asked to be cut out once she saw the close to final cut and although the filmmakers wanted actor Rupert Evans as the dad of one of the kids, he backed out, it is said due to other filming commitments but in his Wiki bio, there were no other commitments. (Google).

The HORROR is in the reviews
ShunGunnery18 June 2017
I'm always interested in new horror movies and WHISPERS caught my eye from all the positive reviews.

The movie starts weak and ends even weaker. Do not believe the hype and made up reviews. Look through them and see the similarities that now, on a second pass, I notice like glaring lights. See how many of the positive reviews have the exact same phrasing saying this reminded the viewer of (insert other creepy movie but that was really good and not awful like this one is), and it is always all capitalized as in "This reminded me of 'THE SHUSHBUNCH'."

You can't say the fakers aren't smart and spent what I imagine to be an insurmountable amount of effort on trying to fool people into renting their lousy movie. At least the think they are.

Skip this one like the plague.
