After the first episode of series 9 served the purpose of introducing the Ashton Kutcher character this second one aims to establish his dynamic with permanent scrounge, Alan.
The plot is a bit thin on the ground, but at least the show seems a bit lighter in tone than in previous years. Yes, we have a few scenes with Holland Taylor's terrible character, but on the whole there's a lot of like here.
Jake is underused as a character, which is a shame. We've watched him grow up, and now he's used in only walk on capacity here.
I'm not saying the show is perfect (has it ever been?) but this is a decent enough episode.
