From what I have been able to gather, the people who made "Defective Detective" are students at the Ringling College of Art and Design. Avner Geller and Stevie Lewis made this short film and I very much enjoyed it and can predict that they'll have a great future in the industry based on their superlative work.
The story is very simple. A detective is in his office when a clue literally drops down on his desk. Unfortunately, the guy has a VERY overactive imagination and he assumes the worst--it's some psycho upstairs carving up a sweet little old lady. What happens next is expertly executed--and the very end has a cute little twist.
While the quality of the CGI is not perfect (after all, two students are not Pixar), it's very good. But what most impressed me was their ability to tell a story and the nice sense of humor. I can't wait to see more from these talented people.
By the way, check out their website for the film--I wish it had more information about the film but I LOVED the pictures of the two....guys?!
