Slick, Taut Thriller
richard-8102 April 2012
Like the other IMDb reviewers, I spotted this on a UK satellite channel and gave it a try. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it (if you can see it). An excellent cast - only four main characters - but is a very tense thriller, fast paced, good direction and featuring a confidence trick plot. I'll not say any more as I certainly don't want to spoil it for anyone but it has some really good twists right to the end. One of those movies that you know is going to have a surprise at the end but when it came was not the one that I had guessed or was expecting.

The only problem then is how and where to see it? I've already said it's available on UK satellite channels and I see that it is 'Internet release only'. I assume this is the US? If so, it's real shame that a well made movie like this with a good cast and excellent story is not more widely available. I'm no expert on the economics of the movie industry but this deserves to be seen and enjoyed by a wider audience.

A Bumpy Tour
AudioFileZ14 August 2012
Did you love the suspense of the original movie "The Hitcher"? If so you may want to seek out "The Millionaire Tour". I say seek because it isn't a movie you've likely heard of. That's not bad in this case as it is quite decent and keeps you on edge much like The Hitcher did. I only mention The Hitcher because it was a modest movie with edginess that rose above it's humbleness, and so does "The Millionaire Tour".

This movie starts out with a simple, quite possible, premise where a man and woman duo, working for a person deemed to be a prominent criminal called "The Roman", hijack a taxi and it's hand-picked occupant. The occupant is himself a con-man who has committed some big-time wrongs to people who don't go down without seeking revenge...or is he? As lower-rung criminals will do the kidnappers are a bit greedy: they employ a graft called "the millionaire tour" to extract as much from their target as possible before handing him over to the man. Things get complicated adding to the suspense mightily.

What you have here is a well-crafted thriller. It seethes and builds on the humble plot it has employed. In other words, a spartan movie that rises above the low-budget with its fine screenplay and good characterizations by those involved. Speaking of the cast, you may have seen several of the main players as they're highly photogenic, but it is likely you will recognize only one by name, Dominic Monaghan. Dominic has had some high-profile roles, the best known has to be playing the character of Simon in Lost. He's a good character actor - in that realm it is knocking on being A-list status. He doesn't disappoint here. The supporting cast, while unknown in name, deliver their character's roles in excellent fashion too. When given the chance I'm always amazed at what relatively unknown creative people can achieve when presented a worthy palate.

If you like slow building suspenseful movies then this one is a no-brainer as it better than many big budget fiascoes whose suspense is based on explosions and body counts.

Entertaining movie
tj1219328 October 2019
A good suspenseful film with an interesting twist. I would have gave it a 7, but I thought the Casper actor was terrible. Overall, definitely worth a watch and the pacing is well done especially for a movie that's almost most entirely shot in a car.

A fantastic debut feature from a writer/director to watch
darkness_visible11 August 2012
A very neat and tidy thriller, excellently conceptualised to work on a limited budget, that held my attention and interest from first frame to last. During the season of mega-budget eye candy films that inspire nothing more than loud snoring, it's refreshing to see such a well-designed and gripping low budget movie standing up to the big boys.

The performances of the four main leads were absolutely terrific. I had not seen Jordan Belfi or Rick Gomez before, but they more than held their own opposite the seasoned stars Dominic Monaghan and Agnes Bruckner. I'm only guessing, but my sense is that it was the participation of Monaghan that allowed the film to be made - if so, then kudos to him, because he obviously has the capability to spot a great film on paper and put his name out there to support a new and promising filmmaker.

Overall an excellent job from all concerned.

Not without flaws, but highly involving nonetheless.
arkieray8 September 2020
An honestly very enjoyable film. Solid setup and acting from the start. Some mildly unfortunate colour and cinematic choices that leave the viewer unable to see everything they may wish to on a given shot, but it's only a slight issue. As I've seen several others say, Dominic Monaghan is the standout in terms of pure entertainment - the flashy, jovial villain role suits him well - but Jordan Belfi and Agnes Bruckner were also thoroughly enjoyable in their roles, doing well to bring out an audience's sympathy. I shan't spoil the ending, but I will say as of a first viewing it felt the weakest part simply for the lack of foreshadowing, as well as seeming to cut slightly short some of a previous scene's entertainment. But be that as it may, this is a film never unentertaining, with some interesting points worth thinking on. I have a feeling a second viewing would be a very different and interesting one.

Holes you could drive a truck through.
spitfiresusan30 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Despite a promising start, good pace and an interestingly menacing concept this film has too many holes to really enable the viewer to maintain suspension of disbelief. This really affects its ability to sustain tension.

The cinematography is stylish, the direction is good considering the limitations of the script. The cast obviously enjoyed the process and it shows with universally competent performances.

The following contains spoiler.

The script is the weakest part of the production. The sense of containment and entrapment is loosely maintained and irritating as the protagonist makes no effort to seek help when he has ample opportunity.

There is a pivotal and lengthy scene that bemoans the expense of health care in America. It works for the purpose for which it was written but at the expense of non Americans like myself who have no emotional connection with this issue.

The film is slick and competent but predictable and fell short of its promise.

An excellent mystery/thriller that will keep you gripped from start to finish.
jcollins-331-15308630 March 2012
This film is a web release movie only, which is probably the reason why there is hardly any information about it plus zero reviews.

I watched this last night as it was premiering on Sky Movies, The fact that I knew nothing about the film was the reason why I wanted to watch it....so I had no preconceived ideas about what to expect. I have decided to write this short review as I cannot find any-other reviews out there and I believe this film needs to watched.

I'm not going to go into any detail about what happens as I think it would spoil the enjoyment, but what I will say is that it's a very good film indeed. It starts well (well enough to keep me watching, as my patience with films these days runs very thin) and ends strongly indeed. It's tense, gripping and enthralling. I was enjoying this film so much that halfway through I began to worry that the ending would be a letdown, it certainly wasn't, if anything it goes up another gear. It's very rare these days that the endings of films live up to the rest of the film, however,in this case it certainly did....and then some.

The cast is extremely strong, it would be wrong of me to highlight a particular performance as all principal actors/actress were on top form. I would like to say though that Dominic Monaghan particularly stood out for me as I have never seen him play this type of character before.

Apologies for the vague review but I don't want to give anything away as i believe too much information would dampen your enjoyment.

A lot of serious plot holes for a robber/thriller
jony-5829226 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I don't understand why so many reviewer praise this movie. Yes, the twists are good, but they cannot justify the illogical plot.

You create a protagonist who is good at understanding people, read human behaviors well, but he himself wont seek for help in public place ? Even wont shot out for help? It is obvious that robber do not hold a gun in his hand and protagonist choose not to run?

I really want to like this movie but the serious plot holes haunted me all along. The movie shouldn't be rated around 6 stars. I think 3 is a fair score.

Superbly crafted crime drama
perkypops2 April 2012
Inon Shampanier's film about The Millionair Tour, a rip which targets a loaded tourist into visits to as many ATMs before cards max out, is not just clever, it is constructed is such a way as you will guess what is going on many times before you guess right. The screenplay is riveting, sharp, and superbly acted in the largely claustrophobic setting of a cab.

At first I thought we may be in for a re-run of Collateral but this film betters that by giving us four people going on a ride in which the scenery is less important than the conversation. There is deep psychology at work here not just in the dialogue but in the body language, the slight inflexions, the looks, the underlying story which is revealed to us piece by piece, and it is all original and crafted to keep you on your toes. You cannot know the twists without knowing what the plan is and that is why this film delivers feigned punches as often as it delivers knock out blows.

Gomez, Monaghan, Bruckner and Vescio perform superbly in their respective roles revealing flaws in character as easily as we want to spot them, and it is only by the very end of the film you will know who is fooling who. Go see it for it is one of the best movies I have seen in a long while.

Highly recommended.

Lame
stegasaurob2 December 2021
Don't believe the positive reviews. I did, and wasted a couple of hours of my life.

This is not a clever thriller. It's dull, derivative, barely watchable, and what plot twists there are are horribly obvious and heavily telegraphed.

On the plus side they've done a lot with a limited budget, it's just a shame they couldn't afford a decent scriptwriter.

A suspense movie with a twist!
mhughes0312 August 2012
I think it's fair to say that the vast majority of people like a suspense movie, and just as many people like a movie with a twist... And this has both!

From the beginning and throughout the movie kept me on the edge of my seat, constantly making me question what was the truth and what was fiction. The actors make it seem oh so real.

The plot has a twist and leaves you thinking "that was genius" (if not ever so slightly far-fetched!).

It's disappointing that this isn't more popular as it's actually one of the best films I've seen in a while.

Superb acting and a great story line, get it watched!

Brill-i-ant
tjzoogle28 May 2012
The first thing i thought about when starting this film was whether i could see Dominic Monaghan as anyone but, Merry from Lord of the Rings. Apparently i can and although i had my doubts about watching a low key film with actors i didn't really know or cared existed it was still brilliant. The plot unlike many other films in my opinion doesn't sag in the middle and you are put in constant suspense about the future of the main character (holy water seller) and the taxi driver. The acting is brilliant in this film and it is very clever in places in my opinion (although i am quite simple minded). Overall before seeing the film on the shelf or on sky movies (or any other TV thing) don't hesitate to watch it. It's pulled off brilliantly and it has quite a unique storyline. Basically watch it.

Surprisingly good, definitely worth a watch
peterjkelly499 April 2012
Considering barely anyone has heard of this film, I was pleasantly surprised, it was really really good and the acting was spectacular. The plot grabbed me straight away and the twists and developments made for a thrilling ride. The ending was perfect and did not disappoint. The camera-work and direction was superb. I would recommend this film to anyone who enjoys Tarantino's work as the plot is extensive and brilliant. The actor that plays the (arguably) main character is someone I will definitely watch out for in the future and there is also some familiar faces. This is the director's (Inon Shampanier) first feature film that he has directed and Dominic Monaghan not only stars but also was the Executive Producer. Crazy stuff.

It grabs you, and won't let go!
solidussoft10 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This is my first review of a movie, because I felt like I had to write about this one. The movie felt somewhat like one of my favorite movies 'Collateral', though the speed in which this movie acts out is a bit faster.

The movie starts with a man on the airport, walking down the street, till he's offered a ride by a taxi-driver, which he takes.

Now we start with camera position in the cab, and we the cabdriver and man(protagonist) start having a conversation. I won't go into many detail, but from the very first lines it grabs on to me. It felt like the quality of conversation in the movie 'Phone Booth'.

I don't feel like giving any more information away of this movie, you have to watch it yourself, though I must say, I was amazed at how the story enrolled. It takes the story from the start to a bigger and bigger boiling point, and I could really identify with the characters.

The performance is great of the actors, and it was fun to see Dominic Monaghan (Lost) play a different kind of role, than we are used of him.

I found the music terrific. Be sure to turn up the 'Bass' of your sound- system, cause it gives the extra ambiance to the movie.

I was surprised this movie got only a 6.0, though there haven't been a lot of votes yet. I give it 8 out of 10, because of it's great grabbing story.

So if your into psychological thrillers, it's a must see movie!

Must See

This was a really good movie and it had a good ending also. Good plot. Good everything. It's on "Tubi" tv right now. Tubi is a free app. It's just like Netflix, and you can cast the movies to the tv with a Google Chromecast.

TERRORISTS NEVER READ HARRY POTTER
nogodnomasters19 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is a semi-faith based film. Religion and faith play a small role. A well dressed Greg (Jordan Belfi) is picked up by a cab driver at the airport. The cab ends up picking up two more fares, Caspar (Dominic Monaghan) and Billie Boy (Agnes Bruckner). They take him on the "millionaire tour" which is a trip to various ATMs until his credit cards max out. Afterwards they are to take the man to meet "The Roman."

The film consists most of dialogue between Greg, his captors, and Eddie the cab driver (Dave Vescio) interrupted by pieces of action. The crooks have a sense of humor which keeps things going, plus you know there is going to be a twist...or two. Fairly tight script with some fair acting.

PARENTAL GUIDE: F-bomb, no sex or nudity.

Excellent for director's first feature!!!!
rommyshy2 April 2012
Superbly crafted, edge-of-your seat thriller. The plot flows seamlessly and there's never a dull moment as the action keeps coming. Without giving too much away... the movie has a great twist that you don't even see coming. Writers Inon and Natalie Shampanier have created a film that keeps your attention all the way through and Dominic Moynaghan and Jordan Belfi portray their roles very convincingly. The only downside of the film was the way it was cut up into chapters on Vuguru.com so you will need to watch each 4-5 minute clip separately but I found myself wanting to watch the next clip immediately after one had finished. Mr. Shampanier has done a splendid job on his first full feature and I will be looking for more of his work in the future.

Excellent

This turned out to a far better film than I was expecting. I didn't know what a Millionaire Tour in the cabbie world was. Excellent storyline well scripted, great acting that produced an absorbing atmosphere and an unexpected twist just to add to a thoroughly enjoyable hour and a half on Prime.
