'The Business of Saving Lives' is about the complicated and often tragic world of animal rescue, and the people who go to extraordinary lengths to save the lives of companion animals. It follows three transports of dogs on a combined 2,673-mile journey from desperate rescue situations in Arizona, Utah, and Mississippi to their new families in California. Along the way the film explores the good, the bad, and the ugly sides of a broken animal welfare system that leaves 5 million dead each year, and the work being done to reduce that number by taking a fresh look at a century old problem.
