International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) has selected 35 feature films across its Luminous and Frontlight sections, including new films from Albania, South Africa and Panama.
The Luminous section includes non-fiction titles with a range of styles and formalistic approaches, and consists of 23 films, 22 of which are world or international premieres and 20 of which are features.

Exclusive: Director Robert Schwentke has attached to direct Behind Closed Doors, a psychological thriller adaptation of the British novel by B.A. Paris. The film will be produced by Stone Village’s Scott Steindorff & Dylan Russell, Scott Delman and Ulf Israel from Senator.
The project will be written while Schwentke directs the G.I. Joe spinoff Snake Eyes. The original draft was written by Melissa London Hilfers and Schwentke will rewrite. David Boies and Joel Falderon will be exec producers.

Italian filmmaker Alice Rohrwacher and Mexican Academy Award-winning production designer Eugenio Caballero have been confirmed as the final two masters at the fifth edition of the Doha Film Institute’s Qumra event, which runs March 15-20 this year.
The pair join three previously announced masters: iconic French director Agnès Varda, Japanese filmmaker and writer Kiyoshi Kurosawa and Polish director Pawel Pawlikowski, who is Oscar nominated this year for Cold War.
Caballero’s 30-plus film credits include Jim Jarmusch’s The Limit Of Control, Baz Lurhmann’s Romeo + Juliet and Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma.

On a national level, the pain that accompanies 9/11 can't be measured, but for a great many there was the added tragedy, two years later to the day, when actor John Ritter, while rehearsing a sequence for his series 8 Simples Rules (co-starring Kaley Cuoco), suddenly took ill. He was rushed to the hospital where he died, not from, as he was initially diagnosed, by cardiac arrest, but, rather, through an aortic dissection. His death was shocking to family, friends, and fans, but in its aftermath we still have our memory of him — and the laughs he gave us — which is all captured in the new documentary, John Ritter: Behind Closed Doors, which debuts tonight on the Reelz channel.
