Is it possible to turn a piece of music into a cinematic journey? Winterreise, the first feature film by artist and filmmaker Inés García, works with a composition by Franz Schubert to explore the relationship between sound, image and story-telling. Composed in the months leading up to his death and one of his most important works, Schubert's Winterreise brought 24 poems by Wilhelm Müller together into a single work to tell the story of a wanderer's walk through the snow after suffering heartbreak in love. The texture of black and white 16 mm film becomes the vehicle for this journey through the winter of the heart.
