Finally!
fokuro5 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
That last scene was what I've been waiting for the whole season! This is how the conflict between dark and light (and the gray shades in that scale) should be treated. It was amazing to see Dexter react how we know he should - but it came as a little bit shocking, too, because it seemed like the light was making its way into Dexter's life.

Well, now we're open to some very interesting things that may happen, like Dexter dealing with the return of his darkEST passenger and the conflict between Gellar and Travis, which should unfold in the next episodes.

Maybe this is the turning point for the season - it surely looks like it is. And despite my thinking that it has come a little too late (we're halfway through the season already!), something really good might actually come out of this.

The Dog, The Judas, The Crossroad and The New Baptism
claudio_carvalho19 July 2014
Dexter is following Travis expecting to find Gellar; however he receives a phone call from Debra telling that Sam was shot in the repair shop and is in coma. Dexter decides to hunt down Leo Hernandez but detective Mike Anderson arrives before him with the police and Leo is murdered in a shooting. They find the DVD with the security footage and Dexter notes that the dog is not barking and he suspects of Nick. Meanwhile Debra requests the presence of Carissa Porter in Miami to give her testimony about Gellar and she learns that Quinn had one night stand with Carissa, jeopardizing the case. Then Debra follows the psychologist's recommendation and gives a party at her house. Travis has difficulties to follow Gellar's instructions and releases the girl that they have kidnapped. Brother Sam is near death but he talks to Dexter and asks him to forgive Nick. When Sam dies, Dexter finds himself in a crossroad between Sam's last wish and his code. Which one will prevail for Dexter?

"Just Let Go" is one of the best episodes of this Sixth Season where there is a battle between the darkness and the light. Brother Sam was one of the most charismatic characters of this Season and I am upset with his death. Dexter has recently had two great characters that might have helped him to get rid of his dark passenger, Lumen and mainly Brother Sam. Unfortunately in this battle between good and evil, the last one is winning. My vote is nine.

There is no light in me

Warning: Spoilers
1. Dexter cares about brother Sam 2. Debra finds the therapist helpful 3. Dex just kills nick

It seems like the motive of the doomsday killers is mor clear now. We also see some conflict and doubt between Travis and Gellar, which may cause some drama down the road. Debra is feeling alienated by everyone around him especially after Quinn acting out. Brother Sam asks Dexter to forgive Nick before passing. Dexter tries to forgive Nick but he had it coming to him. Dexter sees Rudy after killing Nick which signifies that he chose the path of darkness. However, light and dark are not always clear cut. Dexter is more on the side of gray as he takes people out with principles. Perhaps that's why he's loved so much because he's not a clear cut character and he himself is aware of that duality.

Darkness vs Light
Rehan77 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This is a wonderful episode. From the monotonous kill spree of Dexter, this episode provides something totally different. We see the light inside Dexter thanks to Brother Sam, yet ironically it is brother Sam who leads him to foreseeable darkness.

Throughout the 6 seasons Dexter keeps talking to his Father, however by the end of this one another relative is now a part of the darkly dreaming Dexter.

I am so looking forward to the return of the cold blooded ice truck killer. The dark passenger of Dexter is no longer a mere passenger, he seems to have taken over.

What is even more intriguing is to see how the writers will mold the season in bringing the good back in Dexter. Despite being a serial killer, Dexter has always been able to connect to the lighter and the good side of the viewers however with the sudden entry of his brother, the one, he killed himself it is very exciting to see where our favorite character is heading.

Will the writers keep the good in Dexter or is this another twist in the tale ? I for one will not predict, will let the writers captivate me. Is the ice truck killer a fork in the road or the road itself ?

Season starts to heat up! Casting brilliant!
julianselvage7 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Firstly, ill like to say how pleased I am on how well the casting has been in this series, which was greatly displayed in this episode. All the new characters have a distinct personality and have contributed to the entertainment of these series. I have enjoyed Brother Sam's companionship with Dexter, its been mysterious, funny but also interesting in how his ideals has affected Dexter...he was a character that I was fair disappointed to leave the season, that relationship could had kept up till the end of the season. The casting of Detective Anderson, also works, being a more serious and "realistic detective", on the team, making the atmosphere not as stupid. Both Dexter's new babysitter Jamie and Masukua's new employee also have been cast good, creating a more fun atmosphere..The acting, to, has been up to scratch on all of them.

This series, unlike last, now has more frequent spins, and most importantly, good small stories ( such as the upcoming Trinity killer case and the return of Dexter's brother) to accompany the larger main story of Geller and Travis. Although the season started slow, it has certainty now started to heat up. 9/10

Let it go, let it go.
bombersflyup25 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Just Let Go is about Brother Sam being shot and asking Dexter to forgive Nick, instead of avenging. Professor Porter's brought in for further questioning and Deb throws a house warming party.

The sixth season hasn't been up to the standard of the seasons prior, but this one a standout. Brother Sam understands the darkness and the light that Dexter has, which created a bond. Brother Sam asks Dexter to let it go, but Nick's ugliness and contempt bring out raw emotion in Dexter, that he cannot uphold Sam's wish. Deb's terrific as always, but more so and Quinn amusing.

Angel: Oh no no no. Do NOT play the partner card! Quinn: Of course I am going to play the partner card! Why wouldn't I play the partner card? Situations like this is exactly why the partner card is in the fn deck!

please don't go obvious on us
Rob-O-Cop10 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
don't get me wrong, I love this show, but tonight's episode treated the audience in a way that it normally doesn't. This show always treats us like it knows we're smart enough to figure things out and gives us thought provoking themes to contemplate. With this episode though it felt like we were walked through some overstate points, having them spelled out in strong black and white repeatedly. eg The "dog didn't bark" point so we wouldn't miss that it was a familiar face who shot brother Sam. We get spoon fed that point 3-4 times just in case we were super thick. Deb and Quinn's relationship meltdown was also labored and Deb's thought process was hammered home with a mallet as she actually told us straight to camera almost. I hope it's just a writer/director glitch and not a dumbing down of the show to get a bigger dumber audience. there's plenty of shows that cater to the mental age of 8 and I hope we're not going to lose our favorite show to that level. Dexter's always been about subtlety. I see this episode's writer has only done this one episode. maybe don't get him in to do any more would be a good idea.

Brother Sam
jotix1006 December 2011
Warning: Spoilers
It is clear the impact Brother Sam has on Dexter, as he lays in a hospital battling for his own life, after the attempt on his life. It becomes clear that Leo Hernandez, a member of a gang, had it in for the man that saw his evil ways and repented, giving back to the community by employing guys that were trying to make something out of their lives. Dexter is seen casing Hernandez's house, but so is detective Mike Anderson. Dexter is around as Anderson asks Leo to step out. The man comes with a weapon and Mike kills him.

Deb is being haunted by Maria LaGuerta, who gets every opportunity to demand things from her. She is obviously jealous of the woman who got the job her former husband deserved. Batista and Quinn give Deb the book they took from Clarissa Porter, the college professor the detectives met in Tallahassee. She wants to have the woman come for an interview. Her own therapy after having killed the guy at the lounge, is over. She gets a clean bill of health, but is she really dealing with problems in her own life?

Dexter becomes intrigued in watching the surveillance tape when Brother Sam is shot. He realizes the guard dog knows the killer because he stays put, not attacking the assailant. The only one that fits that description is Nick. Dexter comes to talk to Brother Sam at the hospital. He realizes the man will soon die. Sam regains his conscience for a moment pleading with Dexter to leave Nick be. He wants the darkness go out from Dexter's life. As the prayer vigil is going on outside Sam's room, word comes he has passed. Dexter is deeply disturbed by his friend's demise.

As Batista is interviewing Clarissa, Deb is seen outside the interrogation room, listening to the way she explains her involvement with Gellar. Noticing Quinn at his desk, she demands to know why is he not in the room with Batista. Quinn has no choice but to go inside. Clarissa is surprised to see the man again after their sex encounter. AS the questioning is getting on her nerves, Clarissa storms out of the room hinting at having been intimate with Joey, something that drives Deb up a wall. Whatever she felt for Quinn is now over. What is worse, he is interfering with the investigation.

Travis has been preparing a branding iron to be used on the young woman Gellar and him kidnapped. The woman begs for mercy with Travis. Earlier, Travis has gone to the school where his sister works. She is surrounded by toddlers innocently making pictures outdoors. When he comes with the hot iron which shows the tattoo associated to their murders, Travis hears the young woman ask to be let go to her young son, who needs her. Travis ends up releasing the woman.

Dexter has a chance to get Nick for a long talk. They end up at an isolated stretch of beach. Dexter accuses Nick of shooting Sam. The man can only offer lame excuses. Then, in a change of heart, Nick becomes bolder in his answers to Dexter. After all, he reasons, it is your word against mine, so try to prove it. A furious Dexter grabs Nick and forces him into the water where he forces the bad guy to drown. After killing Nick, Dexter gets a vision of his own brother Brian standing at the shore.

John Dahl is on hand again to direct tonight's chapter which was written by Jace Richdale. The death of Sam clearly has a lot to do in sending Dexter into one of his worst moments. He started being skeptical about the con turned into a man of God, but being at his bed side, convinced the man had really changed. Mos Def is not an actor, although he has been given opportunities other better men do not get. To his credit, he has a chance to seem real in his scene with Dexter. The episode covered a lot of territory. Regulars, guest stars, and supporting cast do a good job under Mr. Dahl's direction.

Just Let Go
DanialAbufarha14 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is not the first time that characters act quite irrationally. Why would Leo, upon seeing plenty of cops outside his home, take out his shotgun and start shooting around, although it is evident that that would only result in his death? It just doesn't make sense.

S6.E6 - Dex Did What He Had To Do [9/10]
panagiotis199321 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S6. E6) My Reaction / Review for Dexter Season 6 Episode 6 ''Just Let Go'': Episode 5 was good and I gave it a rating of 8.7/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. So there is a chance brother sam will survive? That's awesome. I still cant get used to Deb being LT. It makes sense that Deb feels confused now that she is LT. It's hard to be friends with your boss and that's what she is now to her friends. Dex needs to make sure that whoever did this to brother Sam will pay. Dex is sad that Leo wont be part of his slide blood collection, makes sense. At least Leo got what he deserved. Wait Nick did this to brother Sam? That's insane. I think Travis is having an existential crisis. Brother Sam forgives Nick, this man has a big heart. Oh boy Quinn is a mess... again. Wow, Nick is disgusting. He killed a man and he is laughing about it. Dex did what he had to do. Overall an amazing episode, my rating is 9/10.

From mercy to forgiveness, Deb is the boss, double-edged generosity, exciting investigation, dreams and nightmares
igoatabase7 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I hate previews ! They should just be forbidden because they're vicious spoilers and usually I manage to avoid them but not this time. Still Just Let Go was a lot about forgiving so let's say Showtime isn't such an evil network after all. More seriously this episode felt like a sequel to one of my favorite Dexter episodes, Easy as Pie. I can't help mentioning it from time to time because it was just heartbreaking and I still haven't forgotten Camilla's mercy swan song. What Brother Sam asked Dex was similar because they both had to leave the world of the livings. If you don't free your soul it remains grounded and the only solution left is to… watch Ghost Whisperer ? I'm no Melinda Gordon, played by Jennifer Love Hewitt in the series, but one thing is sure is that Mariana Klaveno makes one charming teacher as Clarissa Porter. It was a guilty pleasure to watch Batista and playcop Quinn trying to avoid falling in their own trap. And the best part is that Deb had no idea what was going on so she just objectively did her job. Men are idiots and she's the boss ! As for Masuka's student I found it interesting that he was actually a video game developer but a girl like Batista's sister digging geeks is almost science fiction.

As for Deb's psy sessions I'll definitely miss them because they reminded me of Being Erica. However they're apparently not over considering she looked at the shrink's business card. Maybe she has decided to give up on men for a while. Sorry I watched Les Poupées Russes a few days ago and Cécile de France's hilarious performance as a lesbian had an apocalyptic impact on my mood and libido. It leads us to the wicked Travis who has apparently thought a lot about Dex's words of wisdom. It's funny because it's easier to help others, try our best to give them good advices for instance, than to help ourselves. Deb thought way too much for her own good when the most efficient to succeed is probably to just be and do things as authentically as possible. It's a way of life, making mistakes is as normal as drinking water or framing someone for murder. What ?! At least it's what happened to Brother Sam because he found the light and for some people it was just unbearable. And sadly Dex made the mistake of drowning his killer in sacred water. That's probably what summoned you know who. He was so close to let go and finally get ride of his Dark Passenger ! Even Harry believed it could be done. But this installment investigation was twisted so he's Dex's life. The black supercop thinks he well solved the case probably because he's over confident. Travis adorable sister has no idea what's going on and teaches children to paint their dreams in order to make them come true once they're older. We'll see if he finds a way to finally put and end to his misery and transform his nightmare.
