Hello Doomsday Killer
claudio_carvalho19 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
While investigating the death of the waitress, Dexter stumbles with Travis and he searches his background believing that he is the Doomsday Killer. He also learns that Travis was Gellar's student at the university. He kidnaps Travis to kill him, but he realizes that Travis is not the Doomsday Killer. Batista and Quinn travel to Tallahassee to investigate Gellar and they meet his former affair, Professor Carissa Porter. Quinn has one night stand with her and Angel accidentally finds some notes from Gellar in her house. Debra goes on therapy and she moves to a house nearby the beach where a couple was murdered. Gellar and Travis see a couple walking alone in the night and they abduct the woman. Brother Sam visits Dexter and when he returns to his repair shop, he is shot by someone.

"The Angel of Death", Dexter releases Travis sure that he is not the Doomsday Killer. Quinn has an affair with Carissa en his attitude will certainly bring consequences to him. The negotiation of Debra and Mike Anderson to get discount on the renting of the house at the beach is funny. I hope Brother Sam survives; otherwise darkness will prevail over light. My vote is eight.

Between light and dark

Warning: Spoilers
1. Quinn hooks up 2. Deb sees therapist and negotiates terribly 3. Sam is shot

Now the police confirms Gellar as the killer and is out to get him. Dexter got his hands on Travis but lets him go after he realizes he's not the killer. Anderson is a newly added detective on the force and got a slight elitist vibe. A newly introduced personnel always affects the energy in the dept and I'm looking forward to how he fits in. This episode we see light and dark being fought in different situations. Dexter always sees his darkness but Sam brought Harrison into his attention as the light. This season so far is one of the most thematically concrete so far. It doesn't derail much and it stays to the overarching theme quite well. It's interesting to see how the rest of the season is going to pan out since they are so close to catching Gellar.

angelabox11 December 2021
So I literally came from a night where my car was vandalized for my bumper stickers to watching this amazing Dexter episode and I love this actor who played Sam this whole time but in this episode-Wow. Then I looked it up and when I googled his given name I realize he's Mos Def. Even I know who that is! What a fantastic actor you are. Keep it up!

S6.E5 - The Doomsday Killers [8.7/10]
panagiotis199321 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S6. E5) My Reaction / Review for Dexter Season 6 Episode 5 ''The Angel of Death'': Episode 4 was good and I gave it a rating of 8.8/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. The doomsday killers are evolving, they have wild imagination. Masuka really needs to get that Ice Truck killer hand back. You can feel the awkwardness when Quinn talks to Deb. Brother Sam and Dex are becoming friends, interesting. And just like that Dex finds one of the Doomsday killers, nice. Quinn is such a womanizer. So Travis is ''innocent''? And Gellar does all the killings, to me both are 100% guilty, Dex should kill em both. The episode ends with Brother Sam dying? No, that sucks! Overall a great episode, my rating is 8.7/10.

Angel wings
jotix10028 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
There are no big leads into the murder of the young waitress who was killed in front of the police at a hot house setting. Dexter's interest in examining the wings she was wearing at the time of her death proves to be a pivoting point in getting closer to one of the persons behind the murders that are related to the Book of Revelations in the bible.

New addition to the force, Mike Anderson, has been instrumental in linking what the criminals are doing to the story in the bible. All the killings reveal something about what the book describes, but so far, nothing has been found pertaining to the perpetrators and their motives.

Dexter gets lucky as he examines the material which held the feathers of the costume of the last victim. He discovers it is a piece of material much used in painting restoration. Dexter decides to pay a visit to the art museum. He gets nowhere with one of the guides, who ushers him into a small theater where a documentary about the process of handling the paintings. In the film, he sees Travis, the lonely man at the crime scene he saw. Now it is just a matter of patience in getting him.

Debra Morgan is up to her eyeballs in work. She is not accomplishing much, missing her old job and the action it went with it. Quinn stops by to see about getting the engagement ring back; he plans to return it to the jewelry shop to get his money back. It is clear he is still much in love with her. Trying to find more about Gellar during his time in Tallahassee, Deb dispatches Quinn and Batista to get more information. They get lucky with one woman professor who knew Gellar well. As the detectives are ready to leave, Batista goes to pick up Quinn at the woman's house, where he discovers a notebook full of drawings by Gellar, which seem to be exactly what is going on in Miami.

Dexter begins watching Travis. He knows now where he lives. Getting in the suspect's car he attacks Travis one night while driving. Travis is cornered, he tells Dexter more than he should have, implicating himself and Gellar. Dexter decides to keep a close look. Masuka has a new intern, a man that he wants to use to expunge the robbery of a human part by his former shapely assistant.

Gellar is ready for his next victim. She will have to be the 'whore of Babylon'. For that, he sends Travis to get her. Travis almost get caught in the act of snatching a drunk woman coming from a party. Gellar decides to take things into his own hands and he strikes a couple with his car. He is mainly interested in the woman, his next victim. This installment ends with Brother Sam being shot in his garage by a person we never get to see.

Directed by S.J. Clarkson and written by Scott Reynolds, the episode serves to bring Dexter in contact with one of the two criminals causing all the killings that follow a biblical passage. At the same time, the rapport between Sam and Dexter is over with the demise of the religious man that went to redeem himself. The director keeps things going at a good pace. Good acting from the regulars and guest stars.

What?
fokuro5 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously, what are these ending scenes coming out of nowhere? This episode's one was a little bit better than that with the horses, but nevertheless, it was still kind of lame. We all know Brother Sam is dealing with some dangerous people as he tries to save a lot of them at the same time, but he was starting to become an interesting character, who provided the only really good dialogue in the season thus far. And then they just kill him randomly in the last 10 seconds of the episode. If this has no meaning at all in the bigger context of the season and the show, and only serves as the starting point to another of Dexter's hunts, I'll be majorly disappointed.

However, not everything is bad. We see now Travis is really supposed to be a weak character. Of course Gellar sees that too, and that is why he's manipulating him. As it seems the main conflict of the season is something like light versus darkness (although I really don't like this dichotomic division), it has become obvious that Travis is going to be trapped in that conflict. It might be interesting, if well written, which is my biggest concern towards Dexter in the last two season.

Will Dexter represent the light, for once? I thought I was concerned with Dexter becoming a religious person, but having him portrayed as a hero might be even worse.

Predictable and careless writing, anecdotic angel, sloppy editing, Baby Must Die but inspiring friendship, thoughtful duality, pivotal encounter, promising brunette fetishism
igoatabase1 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
If only season 5 had been the last ! Dex and Lumen could have lived happily ever after and in my opinion it would have made sense even if optimism isn't what defines the show the most. My complain is about the relative predictability and lack of attention to details. After all these years how is it possible not to be picky ? Our favorite serial killer should know better than cutting a papersheet in a book Travis probably knows from beginning to end. Moreover bringing it to his lab in order to match it with the numbers was silly. Considering the episode title I was also expecting some references to comics but beside a split second shot featuring angel wings behind Dex its spirit was nothing like The Dark Defender from season 2. An other issue was how Brother Sam's shooting was rushed when it could have happened right after his bro session with Dex. In general the editing isn't continuous enough. One minute you wonder what Deb and the new detective are doing at the beach house and the next our favorite worshiper prays in a pool of blood. Last but not least most scenes featuring Harrison are enduring and reminiscent of what we had to digest during True Blood's season 4. The only enlightenment concerned the baby stumbling upon Deb's crime photos because it was an obvious reference to Dex's own childhood and of course their birth in blood.

But Dexter is far from jumping the shark because its controversial monster has still plenty to offer. First his friendship with Brother Sam quickly grew on us thanks to some crafty character development. Second their discussion reminded me of season 3 as Miguel was Dex's first true best friend. The dual theme of light and darkness is also thoughtful because it binds the story to his Dark Passenger and of course Lumen. An other great thing about this season is Travis because I'm now convinced they were right to cast Colin Hanks. For the moment his role isn't really special but it's easy to relate to his character as we all need to believe in something. It seems Gellar gives sense to his life and until he met Dex he was apparently convinced to work for the greater good. However I'm not satisfied with the fact that his sister has vanished into thin air. Still the introduction of Clarissa Porter (Mariana Klaveno) helped me forget about her because when Batista came for Quinn I really thought she was working for Gellar ! That part was really well staged and quite intense on my side. Will Klaveno be the Courtney Ford of season 666 ? I doubt she's as disturbed as Christine Hill was but she's definitely an interesting addition to the cast. However all these brunettes make things a little too predictable because it's obvious Deb will be involved. Also the fact that Quinn is still enslaved by his libido wasn't entertaining and like Batista we all already know that it will inevitably backfire. To sum things up these impressions of déjà vu and the cons listed prove that the show isn't as fascinating as it used to be. It's still good but when it comes to Dexter I expect to be challenged and shattered !
