THROAT SONG takes place in the icy landscape of Iqaluit, Nunavut, a small town in the Canadian Arctic. Ippik, a young Inuit woman, is silently suffering from the pains of an abusive relationship. Lost in a community that's been tragically separated from its past, Ippik begins to connect with other victims of violence and seeks to reclaim her voice.—Anonymous
Ippik used to embrace all that was her Inuit life in the north when she was a child, but she is now a sullen young woman living silently with the memory of the demons that took away that childhood and figuratively made her forget how to sing. She has just started a job working for the Minstry of Justice, confirming the stories of sexual abuse within the Inuit community before the files are taken to the next step. Although all the cases with which she deals affect her emotionally, it is one in particular that gives her the courage to deal with those demons head on to get her out of the silent hell in which she is living.—Huggo
