Richard Elfman, brother of composer Danny Elfman, is making the rounds again to get Forbidden Zone 2 off the ground and into production. The first time I saw the film was on DVD and I couldn’t believe how crazy & inventive it was for the time it was made. While I’m not sure if the film really needs a sequel, if the creator wants one, why not help?
You might remember a piece that was used in promotion for the sequel from Syfy’s special effects show Monster Man with Sota FX. I’ll include that video as well even though I don’t think it is a great representation for the sequel nor do I know if it is current since that video was from 2011 – including an end title card of “Coming in 2012″. Also, in the IndieGoGo campaign the overall look of Princess Polly is different. Richard is looking...

Back in the '80s and early-'90s, Linnea Quigley ruled the horror scream queen scene. When she wasn't starring in films like Night of the Demons or Return of the Living Dead, she was doing oddball efforts like Linnea Quigley's Horror Workout. Some of us still own this on VHS, however, it's making its way to DVD for the first time. It's up for pre-sale now with copies shipping April 11th.
Directed by Kenneth J. Hall and starring Quigley, the workout tape was originally released in 1990 and features special effects from Cleve Hall (TV’s "Monster Man"). A campy, gory parody of the workout videos of the '80s, the film was created to capitalize on Quigley’s explosive popularity and rabid fan base. In it, Quigley teaches a bevy of big-haired, lingerie-clad beauties the proper way to tone and stretch, while a masked killer stalks them one by one.

With other companies making waves releasing cult horror films on Blu-ray, it's no surprise Code Red DVD is getting in on the trend by bringing Nail Gun Massacre, Just Before Dawn, and The Electric Chair to hi-def.

There are days when a film announcement hitting my inbox causes me great joy and excitement. This is one of those times. Read on for the details!
Larry Blamire, writer, director, producer and star of the 2001 horror-comedy feature The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra and its follow-up, the 2009 flick The Lost Skeleton Returns Again (review here), got in touch with me today to dole out some amazing news--namely, he’s planning on a third film in the franchise to be titled The Lost Skeleton Walks Among Us!
“Anyone who knows me knows that I am an outspoken fan of practical FX,” said Blamire, who also directed 2007’s Trail of the Screaming Forehead and 2009’s Dark and Stormy Night, “and I am absolutely thrilled to be partnering with champion practical torchbearer and mad genius Cleve Hall [on a pair of projects]. Ever wanted to learn how to run a mold or design a character makeup from the man who provided some of the groundbreaking FX for the classic An American Werewolf in London? For those in L.A., here’s your chance, as the legendary artist Steve Johnson is primed to instruct Classes 4 Characters.
Commencing this October in Van Nuys, CA, Classes 4 Characters was formed out of the idea that makeup artists should be able to choose which area of Spfx they want to learn, as opposed to paying for lengthy and expensive makeup schools. Made up by a collective of well-known and respected industry Spfx artists (including Johnson, Cleve Hall of Syfy’s “Monster Man”, Vincent Guastini of The Devil’s Carnival, cast members of Syfy’s “Face-Off” and more), the workshops are designed for working artists who simply cannot take time away from busy work schedules and intended to...

What is up Fiends! It's another great day as the darkness looms overhead! I feel like taking my black carriage out for a spin to haunt the locals! But first, I wanted to let you all in on this week's episode of The Dungeon!

I was joined by my "Terror Team" of Hollywood F/X Master, Thomas Surprenant as well as the lovely "Demoness" Apocalypse Amy Lynes. The entire team was accounted for after all the undead hi-jinks that occurred last week. It's a match made in B-movie heaven: Ohio's new wave gods Devo have teamed with SyFy's premiere reality show about Hollywood's monster prop builders for the new theme song "Monster Man." The new tune, "Monster Man," can be heard on Rollingstone.com. Name-checking zombies, aliens and other supernatural ghouls, it's the sort of short, fun, synth-heavy concoction that Devo founders Gerald Casale and Mark Mothersbaugh (who's also scored numerous Wes Anderson films) can write in their sleep. The show centers on monster maker Cleve Hall and his unique family business that builds sci-fi and horror props for films and TV shows. "Devo has...

Although I now look back on them with a nostalgic affection, in reality the 1980s were a grim time, filled with parachute pants, the Brat Pack and Ronald Reagan. Granted, there were a few bright spots and one of the brightest was director Richard Elfman's surrealistic 1982 freakout known as Forbidden Zone.
Perceived by many as offensive and just plain bizarre, the satirical Forbidden Zone bombed at the box office but eventually found an enthusiastic audience at midnight movies and via home video. Now, 30 years later, Elfman is preparing to return to the Sixth Dimension in Forbidden Zone 2: The Forbidden Galaxy.
The original Forbidden Zone was created by Elfman as a showcase for The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, the musical performance art collective he led with his brother, now-legendary film composer Danny Elfman. As Richard became more interested in filmmaking, he decided to capture some of the...

The Dungeon is rising like a dark phoenix with the new and incredible team of "Apocalypse" Amy Lynes and Hollywood F/X Master, Thomas Surprenant! Show regulars Barb and Jess will always be a piece of puzzle, but the new team is already going strong after their debut! Listen up!
This week on the Dungeon we had a real, in-depth, and at most times, hilarious conversation with the "Monster Man" of the hour, Cleve Hall. Along with Cleve were also visited by his equally and amazingly talented "mini-me", the gore-geous Constance Hall! The conversation was knock down, drag out, and uncensored ... and when I say uncensored? Oh, my little monsters, you are going to have to hear it for yourselves!
Be sure to join my team and I next week when we have a chat with horror insider and super fan, Sean Clark! Hmm ... maybe Creepy will enter The Dungeon one day?...

We haven't talked about it for a few months, but next week on March 14th "Monster Man" debuts on Syfy, taking a deeper look into movie making magic by following Cleve Hall, the man behind some of Hollywood’s most terrifying creatures. Check out a few clips from the show.
"Monster Man" goes behind the scenes of one of Hollywood’s most respected practical effects workshops. For more than thirty years, when studios want a bizarre creature or out-of-this world alien, they turn to Cleve Hall and the team at Sota FX.
