Border Break

This begins apparently as an appeal for a young woman who has gone missing; it ends on the same note, but what is in the middle is more than a little confusing. A group of kids in a car - a regular theme in films of this kind - heading for Mexico during spring break run into a spot of trouble, spot being an understatement. There is a road block/diversion which leads them to a convenience store with no staff. When they hear a noise in the back they happen across a desperate man who is holding a gun to the head of a police officer. He shoots the officer dead and makes off. After some discussion they head back to their car, and guess who is hiding in the back?

The car crashes, and one of their number manages to overpower the felon, but instead of tying him up, stuffing him in the boot and transporting him to the nearest police station, they leave him lying unconscious in the dirt. Sensibly they do head to the police station, apparently a very small one on an extremely quiet night. As they are led off to be questioned one by one, starting with one of the girls, things begin to look very strange, not only does the sheriff proposition and then falsely imprison her but the killer turns up at the station, and it appears not only that he is not all he appears but that one of their number is in cahoots with the sheriff.

That is about as clear as things get, we are left to assume this is something about drugs and maybe something else too. Granted "Border Break" is a low budget film and somewhat experimental, but with all these question marks hanging over it you are likely to be more confused than thrilled by the closing credits.
