It's a comedy.. not a documentary (for those requesting "realism")
volk_stepni16 January 2023
Real life is never like comedy and rightfully so. For comedy to work you have to exaggerate things and characters to a certain level. Look back at all the comedies you have seen, none of the characters are "real". Forest Gump is not real, nor realistic. The same is valid for the "Machos Alfa". They are vessels to carry the story and link the comic events in a cohesive story.

It's true that comic side of "male-hood" is on display here. But that is not a surprise.. the title is not Alfa Women & Men.. or the story of modern couples.. it's not "Coupling" (brilliant British comic series about relationships).. it's about Alfa Matchos and the comic side of that social farce. It's also a valid mirror of all the feministic blind alleys.. if you are able to see it. But the feminism is not on display here.. it's modern patriarchy.

Clever and smart, a change from the usual Spanish Telenovela
qui_j2 January 2023
This series is one of the cleverest and well produced to come out of Spain. It's modern, deals with current social media issues as well as the absurdities of modern living. The characters could use more development but that may happen if the series is renewed for a second season. For example, if the creators are serious about the characters exploring all aspects of their masculinity, personality and sexuality, they need to do so in a sensitive and tasteful manner. It would make the premise for series more believable I.e that the men are interested in making the journey to evolve and discover what it means to be "masculine". The negative is that like most of the series from Spain, the audio is terrible. This makes the dialog inaudible at times, especially when the actors deliver their lines as if they are just reading them rapidly from the script.

Unfortunately, the second season loses the innovation and momentum of the first and is not as enjoyable or engaging. The writing deteriorated as did the acting which becomes more mechanical. The rapid fire dialog and poor audio quality makes the speech inaudible and incomprehensible. The characters seem stuck in their stereotypes and show little development. If there is a third season, one can only hope that it regains its uniqueness and momentum!

... very pleasant little surprise from Netflix
bjarias4 January 2023
... it's clever-dialogue throughout all ten-consistently-well-done-episodes ... all the characters-actors are engaging-talented ... production-values on-par-better than much-other-European-programming... it really is hoped they bring it back returning it for at minimum another season

... Ishita Chatterjee in her review at Midguard Times has it right: "The series is a tale of four men learning what their specific blind spots are regarding how they view women and working to make positive changes that will make their lives better. As for the comedy, it works well and takes on an absurdist tone in certain situations like the "vibrator" incident at school. And this makes the show more comical. Overall, [I'd] give this show a try if you want to enjoy a good dose of comedy that will tickle your senses and brain. 7/10"

Season 2 just nailed it, begging for the next!
harrisonhuangyongxin13 February 2024
The four protagonists of the show continue to challenge traditional notions of masculinity in the second season, which manages to be even funnier than the first.

The writers skillfully maintain the depth and complexity of the multiple characters, including the return of the female characters from the previous season.

Themes such as non-traditional relationships, identity politics, workplace harassment, feminism, and patriarchy are explored with wit and humor, highlighting the absurdity of modern life. The show manages to entertain while also shedding light on important issues, allowing viewers to learn and laugh simultaneously. In doing so, the show demonstrates that those who are brave enough to learn about and understand different perspectives can gain a deeper understanding of the true meaning of love and peace. It is the brave who are able to find joy and appreciate the beauty of life!

Funny, interesting, could go deeper
dililith17 January 2023
It is a funny comment on the situations of couples and romantic/sexual dynamics when men think they are "alpha males", but don't even know the origen of the concept.

Its main characters are the men but they are not the ones calling the shots, which is refreshing; still feels like third wave feminism, but good effort on including a guy constantly calling out on sexist behaviors, they chose to make him annoying, but still...at least it was there.

Overall is funny, entertaining and has a lot of subtext; it is not perfect, but opens the door to the discussion of the toxicity of patriarcal society on men and women.

Enjoyable Lighthearted comedy
maweva4 January 2023
The story follows the lives of four quirky male characters who all have their peculiarities that get them into trouble with the opposite sex.

The series is high-quality film making, with excellent visual storytelling. The performances are strong and the characterisations believable.

Great editing holds the series together along with good cinematography.

At times the dialogue was fast and reading the subtitles was challenging however, the storyline's were easy to follow.

We enjoyed the use of comedy to explore an important social issue, affecting heterosexual relationships.

Overall the series provided a few laughs.

The best comedy I've seen in a while!
feryfer10 February 2024
Four alpha males trying to find their place and reinvent their selves in the time of empowering woman. Sarcastic, ironic, iconic! And so much fun!

I was looking for a comedy and this Spanish production made it for me.

The acting was great, the plots are surprisingly funny and the production was really well done.

Also you can take a great look at the city of Madrid through the series as they saw it to you as beautiful as it can be.

The idea of talking about how males have to evolve to give women the place in society that they deserve, one of the greatest issues that we are concerned about, makes the whole series essential for one to make up your mind in a lot of things that couldn't even imagined.

Looking forward to watch the second season right away.

Funny, frustrated, desperate males and females
pembekeci16 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It is a Spanish TV series that can be watched without getting bored but might annoy or make you laugh from time to time.

The never-ending male vs. Female story is the subject of this series. The series dealt with the subject in the dimension of modern masculinity. But one migth feel that series is also about a version of feminism which tries to imitate the toxic masculinity and glorifies that twisted feminism a little bit (tiny bit!) more :)

While the series does not glorify either the female or the male point of view, it is sometimes unfair to both parties. However, the needle of injustice sometimes leans more towards the male side.

The reason Luis gets those testosterone shots is because he still wants to be with "his wife". No other woman interests him. However, his wife comments that "you need a testosterone shot to be interested in me". Poor Louis! :) It would have been more elegant if Esther would have told her husband that she was no longer interested in him without cheating on him.

It's too much for the Santi character to talk about his sexual life explicitly with his 16 years old daughter who will be considered a child. It's hard for the audience to empathize with that. It is another example of toxic-masculinity when Santi thinks his daughter is a lesbian and tells this to his friends proudly! After all, he and her daughter screw same gender! By the way she is bisexual! :)))

Pedro is what his partner Daniela is. They are both types of people who manipulate a certain group on "any subject" and earn money from it. Both Daniela and Pedro have a "deal" and break up when the terms of the deal are at the "relative" detriment of one party. No obvious love between them...

Here's Raul! Absolute toxic-masculine man. The equivalent of toxic-masculinity in the encyclopedia! Almost the only character who deserves everything that happens to him.

While the character Luz encouraged her friend Esther to cheat on her husband, her reaction when she was cheated on was very hypocritical.

The show definitely deserves a second season. In the second season, It would be much better if the series handeled the relations regardless of gender. But it would be a risk to lose lots of audience from both genders!

Lighthearted and Refreshing watch
jyjxgal12 January 2023
I found the series to be a really entertaining and refreshing watch. Even though it did delve into the topic of gender norms and masculinity/feminism they did well to have a range of the different males/females portrayal of the different typical stereotypes. Found it to be truly brilliant. A recommended watch for those who are enlightened and in tune with the modern world and the direction it's moving in in terms of gender roles; not so recommended for those still very stuck in traditional and outdated views of gender roles as you people would probably just get offended and give this wonderful series a rating it doesn't deserve.

negative end of season 1
darklycan-039814 March 2023
IMO series is worth watching nonetheless.

First season ends up badly for everyone, and not every men classify as alphas.

It doesn't matter if you're alpha, beta, right, wrong, cheater, betrayed or if you do nothing bad. Men always lose, end up alone and broke, and they just take it like a man.

Women destroy you no matter what; some to gain an advantage and some to gain just the view of pain in your eyes.

Maybe it's a somewhat realistic tv series and should be valued as so. In a world where toxic femininity is on the rise.

I still hope all grieving men and women can get back from the ashes, or to their feet, on the second season.

Very enjoyable and contemporary
robytdd18 October 2023
Well, what can I say? This has been a pleasant surprise.

In a world in evolution four male friends are facing changes in the society that effects their own lives...

"Machos Alfa" approaches with irony topics that are serious and full of complexities. The result is a very enjoyable comedy in 10 episodes (but a second season has been confirmed) that is well written and supported by a cast that is just perfect.

I noticed that most of the very negatives comments are from men, and I am afraid that's because this series touches some 'exposed nerves' from little insecure and weak males. That level of nasty vitriol against the feminist movement seems to confirm that the show has hit the target. Well done.

Personally, I'm looking forward to season two.

Funny, worth your time, but not nearly perfect!
korleone-9240724 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
If you love spanish humor, you will definitely enjoy Machos Alpha. This show is revolving around four long time friends, now in their forties, and their relationships with their wifes/girlfriends.

So, what is wrong with this series. Well, first thing you'll realize are stereotypes. Both, man and woman, are extremes in this matter. Now, you will instantly get a hint that Pedro and Raul are "bad guys", machists, alphas and so on, while Santi and Luis are typical omegas, submisive, stripped off their masculinity, which show wants to present as a good thing?! Why?? What sort equality is "if a man cheats on a woman, he should be banished to live on an island with man eating lions, while, if woman does the same, man should forgive her because it was his fault in the first place". Toxic feminism should not be praised. Just like all the "isms", this one is extreme and wants man to treat woman not as their equals, but as their superiors and cut them some slack when wronging man.

The season ends on even lower note, and the conclusion is that man shouldn't be man, but woman should be both man and woman and make man miserable. Much potential gone to waste!

Are these people serious?
amarildojaupi4 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Ok where do I start? With the father explaining to his daughter how he slept with strange people on a daily basis describing also what kind of sex he had ? Or do we go with that woman who cheated on her husband tried new things and when they didn't work for her , her husband was there like an idiot ? Or do I go with the guy that he is being forced into an open relationship? Just imagine if it was the guy who was forcing his girlfriend into this what the results would be ! They make males look like idiots in here like they don't have no say ! Safe to say that this show was created by a radical feminist that just wants to exploit males and family values at its core ! It's just trash tv! They made it look like you could have sex with everyone without respecting any relationship! Aaaa and the resolve on the last episode was just awful and very cheap ! So one guy just went with his abusive and cheating wife (loser) the other one also went back with his cheating wife after she destroyed her family and traumatized her kids(also a loser) the other guy got humiliated on live tv just because he was speaking his mind and his girlfriend could not help it! She could not keep up so she asked him to slow down and left the guy no choice but to cross himself (aaa yeah of course they made him look like the bad guy ) and the cherry on top this lawyer wife on this open relationship couple after sleeping with half of the city all of a sudden feels cheated on just because she found out that her bf was sleeping before with someone else . Mind you that she comes up with all these pervert ideas and she don't have a problem trying them (looks to me like she has experience but they won't tell u that in the movie because just in case u didn't figure it out by now they have to make the last guy look like a loser tooo! Ta daaaaa!)she ends up being unprofessional even to her profession leaving this guy with one euro on his pockets because guess what ? Women's ruleee! Like it was a toxic experience! Hopefully they don't make a second season !

A brilliant piece of a contemporary art - a tribute to the modern masculinity
bpraznoe9 January 2023
The series is ingenious in showing how men think and act. It's so delightful to watch how beautiful men friendship is. The series brings into the focus how vulnerable the modern men have become, despite the common belief that men are the tougher sex.

The characters are chosen extremely well to show some of the most common archetypes of the today's men behavior. The situations are well picked to show the most common issues men (and women) today face. Like a divorce, for example. Or a loneliness. Or a search for a meaning in life, relationships, career.

Finally, the series ends up creating a feeling of "I want more!" Seems like we've only tasted a tiny piece of a remarkably tasty pie. And we're just in the beginning of a wonderful journey to explore the vast subject of the men masculinity and friendship altogether.

I'm so eager to see the next season...

Good comedy
taniaelidavoice26 February 2024
It made me laugh a lot. It's comedy so don't expect it to be real with way too complex characters.

. I finished watching all of it. It showed the irony of the modern society. The "good" and "bad" of feminism

Some of the comments here are people who only watched 5 episodes. So to me that doesn't count. It gets better with time. It shows a lot of scenarios that are happening currently that makes "making everyone happy" an impossible task.

. At the end it gives the idea that we all make mistakes, that we are not perfect And that it is extremely difficult to fit in everyone's ideals. But overall I liked it cause it was fun to watch and made me laugh a lot.

Brilliant series, buuuuuut...
spikeypoet13 April 2023
Brilliant series, buuuuuut... What's the deal with damned-near EVERY series pushing the spineless, weak man narrative!? Why is this even a thing!? Women, even when they do BLATANT wrong, it's just, "oh, it's empowering women..." blah blah blah... No, it's straight-up hypocrisy, is what it is.

Women want all the power and freedom of men, plus more, but with none of the responsibility.

What man, in his right mind (besides Will Smith) allows his wife to have an open relationship because he's terrified of losing her!? Weak modern men, is who. At least, that's absolutely the case, if you allow modern (gynocratic) media to tell it.

There's absolutely no freaking way that I'm in a relationship with a chick and giving her free reign without borders, because Will Smith is the result of that... and I'm gonna throw this out there, it's absolutely fine to be a straight, masculine man who is a no-nonsense commonsense pragmatist, consistent to a fault. Absolutely nothing wrong whatsoever.

You want tips on how to consistently be handed the kitten, deal with women in a manner that's contrary to what's being shown in this series: do NOT be a walkover and allow them to violate you without consequences; a man has to be willing to leave a woman who Will Smith's (emasculates) him. Otherwise it'll only be a matter of time before she'll leave you; once a woman loses respect and attraction for a man, it's a WRAP.

Good series with great actors.

Probably one of the funniest comedy series since Friends
lorianna-1494122 February 2024
I know this might come shocking as a comparison, but this series is by far the funniest one I've seen since Friends. It tackles relevant issues - gender identity, social culture, couple dynamics, you name it - with humour and a well balanced POV as it manages to present all these topics in a raw and relatable manner. It's definitely worth a watch if you are into light-hearted comedies that are rich in life content and manage to get through important messages in between the laughs and smirks. We are all human, we all struggle to identify who we are, how we should behave, and, more importantly, when to sit back and stop taking yourself too seriously.

The second season is just as good, if not better than the first, so I can't wait for the next season. Give it a chance - I've binge watched it with my hubby, and we couldn't put it to rest. It's a satire, it doesn't hold back, and that's the beauty of it. Enough with lukewarm dialogues, this one is fun and honest to express all kinds of opinions: enjoy the ridicule of some of the situations and get a chance to reflect.

I love this
ctimmslewis18 February 2024
This is something I put on to listen to while doing jobs around the house but I started listening and found myself watching the tv rather than doing the housework, in fact I got nothing done and became a couch potato growing roots, but it was the weekend so it doesn't hurt every now and then.

I was into this series straight away. I found myself laughing out loud and ended up binge watching both series.

It's funny and refreshing. The guys have great rapport as the four friends and Raquel guerrero is brilliant in her role.

The writers of this are extremely talented. And I loved all the different perspectives and the way their stories unfold and the topics that were covered in a humorous lighthearted way while still making a point while giving you something to think about

Can't wait for series 3 *****

Disappointing
bjornfogh-7024615 January 2023
Being a single male just turned 30 I found the premise of men finding their way in the modern world interesting, I hoped it might even enlighten me on stuff.

But what I found was the classic "modern audiences" vibe where all the men are morons and even though the women have some quirks, competent.

I found it frustrating that these men dont push back on anything. Am I sexist the father asks, the daughter says "yes" and he just accepts it just like that.

The actors are really good and I did see 5 episodes to pass some time, but now I am just disappointed. This show is practically just a group of men getting their asses handed to them without fighting back. What a disappointment. Not all aspects of "modern society" are a positive thing and you are not neccessarily stuck in traditional and outdated views on gender roles, just because you dont like this show, like another reviewer so kindly put it...

Gateaway-show to spanish comedy!
michaeldupage15 February 2024
Real fin show with lovely characters that feels like someone you know, at least Santiago. But hey, he gets away with it.

The complex story made easy about "alpha males" and their road to redemption.

This is a gateway show for spanish humor and comedy! It is honest and true to heart, if you are honest; haven't we all have this thoughts? Gone thru the same kind of situations (Well somewhere in the ballpark) in life.

Don't go to fast to conclusions and hang on the fast dialogues and quick humor.

I can just hope there will be a third season!

Thanks for the experience so far! Can't recommend this show enough!

Could be better
znynx22 February 2024
The series is watchable and enjoyable at times, even managing to be irreverent. One thing that really annoyed me was Santi's attitude towards technology. He speaks of his daughter as some sort of tech genius whilst he acts all dumm about it. Problem is, he's 44, and that's a generation that's generally very well versed with internet. He behaves more like a 60-something year old. Same goes for questions of gender - he's way too "young", just like his friends, to be so emotionally and politically illiterate and immature. It just doesn't make sense at all. It's very cheap humour at times, though one of its merits is a rare stance against the moral obligation and inevitability of parenthood.

Its watchable
neilcad-7957712 March 2024
There are two different ways of seeing this series, and I think I can understand both of them. On one hand, it is irritating to see the usual misandrist tropes being wheeled out wheeled out and it's also slightly disturbing the way that any morality is trampled over just for the sake of comedy. However, it is just a comedy so it's not fair to take it too seriously or be too pumpers about it. There is a long history of literature finding humour in infidelity. I didn't find it particularly funny but that might just be me - I gave an eight because it's better than a lot of stuff out there and the four main characters are well acted.

Good try, but fell flat
marcovinicio-749211 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
At the beginning I was really interested on the vision that the series was going to take, it looked like it was going to explore masculinity and as they keep on saying all trough the episodes, end toxicity.

The main four characters are excellent, they are real people and they evolve, I was very excited to see that the series had both male and female writers, and a female director. Storylines were a bit lame but believable and all the set up is very good, camera photography, etc.

By the time you are half way you can start seeing the cracks on the story, and unfortunately these are all the female characters, there isn't a relatable or likeable one, they are selfish, vain and egocentric. From the crazy ex-wife, the controlling teenager, the idiotic influencer or the liberated lawyer, all of them use men as an accessory, there is no depth on their stories, they do not evolve, and at the end the series is just a huge letdown.

It was a great premise, but poorly executed. I was hoping for a fresh European take on the new gender roles, and ended up with a series where men are just the same stereotypes and women are completely shallow.

Toxic femininity
FlowXP7 March 2023
This just a soap opera about toxic femininity. Nothing creative, nothing movin, just cheap writing.

A dude, after dating 10 women, gets back with his demented ex wife.

Another dude gets cheated by his wife, who she makes him feel like it's his fault. And of course after she gets dumped by the second dude, she gets back with her husband.

The third dude cheats on his wife and in return by the end she dumps him. But she first destroys him over, by selling his entire business by 1 euro.

And finally the fourth dude gets dumped live on television by his loving girlfriend, who needs an image boost for here Instagram page. Just because he has another point of view than others.

So just a lot of toxic sh**y people in this movie. 0 interesting stuff.

So Alpha Males they are? Or were? Or will be? I thought it was a parody on the modern day madness; but let see..

For starters, none of the male lead characters are alpha males-they're submissive doormats. All of them.

All female characters are obnoxious male haters. They speak to their male partners in a demeaning and bullish tone with an attitude of superiority. They treat them as disposable trash.

The level of promiscuity shown in these series is shocking. These are men and women in their 40s, not teenagers or in their 20s. Not a single female from Tinder is shown as a normal, relationship seeking individual-they are all bat$hit crazy.

The most ridiculous/obnoxious characters: Santi and his 16 yo daughter. Pedro's partner Daniela, an online "influencer'.

The most absurd scenes: an elderly woman spitting into Pedro's face. Santi and his daughter' conversations.

So what exactly filmmakers were trying to achieve? To transform already submissive men into what? Slaves?

What was the point of demeaning women as sex-crazy?

Why am I giving it 5 stars? The acting was good. The first few episodes were promising. I liked the Maid character-she was funny.
