Sex & Nudity

  • There is a house in game for a main mission or just for show but you can go in the house and a girl zombie is chained to the bed in a bikini with a camera in front witch is not very good for a young audince.
  • Some zombies are shown in bikinis but no cleavage or anything sexual is shown the only reason the game got mild sexual content is cause of that.

Violence & Gore

  • Action involves destroying zombies in a variety of violent, gruesome ways, including running them down with vehicles, stabbing them with knives, and hitting them with spiked two-by-fours.
  • Players use baseball bats, knives, axes, shotguns, and rifles to kill waves of zombies.
  • When struck, the undead typically grunt and bleed profusely, leaving large red puddles on the ground.
  • Severed body parts can be found littering the island in various spots.
  • Battles are accompanied by screams of pain, realistic gunfire, and slow-motion effects.
  • When zombies are knocked to the ground, players can sometimes stomp on their heads to complete kills.
  • Large blood splatter stains the surrounding environment and players' weapon.
  • Players can also dismember zombies.
  • We see someone kneeling in a kiddie pool full of blood while lamenting the zombified family members he recently butchered.

Profanity

  • In the intro cutscene, a rapper displays the middle finger.
  • "Bitch" is used in the intro as well.
  • Multiple songs in the soundtrack are explicit. For example, one song "Who Do You Voodoo" by Sam B, has swear words such as "bitch," "fuck," and one use of "motherfuckers."
  • Heavy language throughout this game. Extreme uses of "fuck," "shit," "hell," and "damn," as well as other expletives and colorful phrases are also used.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • This game uses a health-bar system, so low-health is going to be a constant issue for players. Energy drinks in the game magically work as healing power, and players will end up drinking hundreds of these throughout the game, sometimes end-on-end. There are none of the traditional side effects for consuming such dangerous amounts of caffeine and sugar.
  • Another way for players to regain lost health is to drink bottles of alcohol. These beverages will heal injuries, but the character will become temporarily drunk, resulting in screen-blurring effects and hindered controls. These effects wear off very quickly. The player is never severely injured by alcohol poisoning.
  • The player can also use medical kits, kits to regain health, which often depicts him injecting the vaccines into his arm.
  • Some cutscenes show several characters drunk and are depicted stumbling around at a party or such.
  • Some sequences also reference drug use; one mission requires players to retrieve drugs for a character (e.g., I haven't shot up since the day before yesterday and I'm getting.
  • Intravenous drugs are mentioned by an addict.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The whole theme of this game is going on a vacation to a tropical island and you pass out one night at a bar and you wake up with hundreds of zombies outside your room window.
  • The Infected's bone-chilling shriek may frighten some young players.
  • The zombies are quite frightening, including the Infected and the Butcher.
  • There are several emotional scenes when some of the characters are killed or die.
  • It is essentially a horror game.
  • It should be clear to most parents that Dead Island isn't for children due to it's extreme violence, substance abuse, language, and horror images. Recommended age of 18 and a minimum age of 16.
