A great movie for the family that is both intense and exciting!

Warning: Spoilers
The movie the Alley was a great movie to watch and enjoy, especially when compared to other small film projects out there. The story surrounds a young boy named Nick who witnesses a murder in the alley behind his house. However, since he has, in the past, invented unbelievable stories and tales, nobody, including the police, believe him. The murder, who is also a police officer and who discovered Nick in the alley the night of the crime, is out to silence Nick at all means necessary.

Nick Slimmer, who plays the main character, Nick, was incredibly realistic and displayed his talent beautifully. He took on the role with a great amount of maturity but still kept the character's personality real according to his young age. Shannon Holzer, who played the murderer, Walter Vincent, was incredibly intense and creepy, perfectly capturing the role of his character. He scared me, but to a point of genius!! Madison Fitzgibbons, who plays Nick's younger, gullible sister Amy, played her part beautifully. She was innocent and naive, but it was completely realistic for the character's age and personality.

The director, Jeff Hathcock, did an incredible job of putting this movie together. Every member of the cast was incredible and the story took on a common tale of the boy who cried wolf with a great twist! It was absolutely well done!

The movie is really intense, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish! Yes, it contains some cheesy parts, but it adds a flare that is enjoyable for the family and doesn't stray from the story line. I greatly recommend this movie for families who enjoy small pictures that keep you riveted through the entire movie!

Film Reviews: The Alley (2010) - By Brian Morton Posted on Thursday, June 02, 2011 @ 17:17:08 Mountain Daylight Time by Duane

Precocious kids are something that I nearly always hate in movies. After all, we've never met a kid like that in real life, and if you did, they wouldn't be cute and neat, you'd actually want to smack them. That being said, the kids in The Alley didn't make me feel that way, I actually found that, despite my usual feelings, I liked these kids!

The story here is about a young boy who likes to spin tall tales, when he actually witnesses a murder one night in the alley behind his house, the murderer discovers his identity. Now, with his mother telling the police that he's known for lying, the police don't believe him and the killer is a cop! Now, he's got to convince the detectives that he's telling the truth before the bad guy catches him and kills him or his family!

This might sound like a 'kid' movie, but it's really not. The kids seem real and, while they're pretty precocious, it doesn't get too out of hand. And, there are a few little points that made me wonder what was going on...mostly how a kid on a bike could keep up with a guy in a car, and why a cop tailing someone would park his car right next to the person's car who your following...little things like that...but things that stood out to me.

I'm giving The Alley 3 out of 4 cigars, it's not a perfect movie but it's still pretty cool to see an indie movie that takes a totally different direction that most of the others...and it's kind of cool to see an indie kids movie too! A great murder mystery for the whole family

Warning: Spoilers
I was pleasantly surprised by this little thriller. It is a straight forward story that will keep you on the edge of your chair. The children in the story are believable and not the typical Hollywood type. These kids look like they are right off the street. Nick Slimmer as "Nick" is believable. He plays his role smart and not cute which makes him very appealing. Shannon Holzer, as the cop, is truly menacing. In every scene you can tell he is really in the moment showing something so sinister in his eyes while appearing as just a nice guy and professional policeman. The kidnap scene is really great. The babysitter is so oblivious to what is going on that again the theme of "responsibility" takes on a new form. I recommend this movie for families to watch together as it is not only entertaining but sends a great message.

Great little movie
bluegardenia8317 February 2011
This movie really held my attention. The acting was first-rate and I got totally caught up in the storyline. The guy playing the killer really underplayed everything and I thought he was also pretty hot. My favorite scene, though, was the inept babysitter who continually talks on the phone, oblivious to the kid she's supposed to be watching getting kidnapped! I laughed so hard with that! I do have to admit that the scene, midway through the movie, where the killer breaks the girl's neck really disturbed me. The scene was shot from the view of the victim, so all you see is the killer's face as he strangles her to death and when her neck finally snaps, the camera cracks with it. It was very effective and its the one scene that I can't get out of my mind. It was almost too violent and intense. Overall, I think this was a well done movie. I hope to see more from this director.
