Fascinating but the series could be shorter
carolchihju20 March 2022
First of all, I am from East Asia, where many buddhists and taoists believe in life after death. I do think it is possible to connect with the deceased ones. Certainly, different people have different beliefs. Yet I don't think it's fair to give this show a one star simply because it contradicts your ways of seeing life.

What I like about this show is that it is different from Tyler Henry's previous show, Hollywood Medium. In this Netflix series, many people of color and working-class people are being read. I really appreciate this.

What I don't like about this series is that the pace is too slow. I think it would be better to shorten it into perhaps 3-4 episodes or just one documentary (2 hours).

A lot of people assert that Tyler Henry is a liar and it is unacceptable for Netflix to make a show for him. I think it's an interesting comment since people would enjoy a Netflix series like "Inventing Anna," which is about a criminal who stole millions of dollars from others, but hate Life After Death with Tyler Henry in which he helps people to express love to the deceased ones or get over the past.

Of course I don't know if Tyler really can communicate with the dead... I don't have proof. But even from the counseling perspective, I think he is very a genuine and loving person.

Some people are accusing Tyler of being really good at manipulating people's emotions and giving vague readings. In many East Asian cultures, we believe that clairvoyants/mediums/fortune tellers could only see the tip of the iceberg when communicating with the "other world"... that is, maybe only 10% of the whole picture. If they disclose too much, they would lose something from their own lives. Many clairvoyants die young or remain not married or suffer from a health issue if they reveal too much. There is a Chinese proverb that goes, "tianji buke xielou" (Heaven's secrets must not be revealed). And I believe that it is why Tyler doesn't say a lot in a reading. He can't see everything. There is a limit.

If you have a few million dollars....

I think Tyler is for real. He believes in what he's doing. But, oh my, the homes these people live in... I'm thru episode 3 and I don't foresee Tyler stopping off in my neighborhood or one like it anytime soon.

Good intentions but vague
gabriella-7123112 March 2022
I do believe he is a genuine person. It comes across more than ever. I do believe he has a gift. However, and this next criticism is not on Tyler himself. The people he reads give away too much information too early of Tyler's reading. For example, gasping, facial expressions, giving information away. And many viewers are most likely skeptical of mediumship to begin with. If Tyler could be allowed to speak longer without interruptions, to see how specific he can get on his own. I was more impressed by Laurie Campbell. If there is a way to do readings without all prompting or encouraging by the person or people he's reading. It's just a note to producers. Just a thought.

Great show if you actually know anything about mediumship
jnhaehlen4 April 2022
You can tell many people who reviewed this 1. Didn't actually watch the show 2. Aren't familiar with mediumship 3. Reject it because it goes against their religion or set beliefs I have medium's in my family, and Tyler has such an amazing clear, uninterrupted, connection to the spirit world. If you actually know what to look for you would know he was legit. People complaining this is slow or boring, lol don't watch it. Tyler is giving people closure to move on with their life and that angers people for some reason, nobody is forcing you to watch it. Great show! Really hope they come out with another season.

Keep an open mind and be entertained
tm-sheehan16 April 2022
My Review- Life After Death with Tyler Henry Streaming on Netflix My Rating 8/10 I don't recall ever reviewing a show like this before but it's so entertaining and well produced.

Even if you don't believe in an after life or are sceptical about clairvoyants Tyler Henry is such a likeable personality and the format of the show is not confined to a spooky indoor set on the contrary Tyler and his assistant or occasionally his lovely Mum Theresa visit their clients in some spectacular locations.

It's a real human interest show that includes an insight into Tyler's personal life where we meet his male partner Clint .

Tyler even helps his mum come to terms with her traumatic childhood when she realises through DNA that the mother who abused her was actually a criminal and not her birth mother.

There's an honesty that's rare in American television programs I've seen featuring clairvoyants the clients who request readings I'm certain are genuine .

Emotions of course can be faked but I think I'm a good judge of authenticity and the readings are fascinating with details that couldn't be researched earlier.

The Clients hand Tyler objects to Tyler that assist him in his readings and a few sensational personalities from the world of entertainment come through The talented young Tyler who is only 26 years old is certainly gifted and as I said earlier even if sceptical keep an open mind and I'm sure you'll be entertained by Life After Death With Tyler Henry , you may still be sceptical afterward but Tyler Henry is charismatic sincere and very entertaining personality and his show is a real human interest show unlike some of the rubbish reality pulp that's labelled as entertainment these days.

This Netflix show highlights the predatorial practices of a narcissist who preys on the raw emotions of people who have lost loved ones and are looking for closure
jasonmbaumgartner13 March 2022
Tyler Henry does not have any special clairvoyant skills. He's not communicating with the dead or seeing beyond the great wall of death. What Tyler is doing is an age old deceptive practice of expertly using cold reading skills to extract information from others that he is interacting with to get more knowledge of a deceased person. There are many different tactics available for cold reading including watching the body language of the person you are interacting with to get more specific information while proceeding down specific potential paths of inquiry to gain an overall picture of some person that has passed.

Frankly, the fact that Netflix has added more legitimacy to this age old tactic by giving Tyler his own series to deceive a larger audience is absolutely repugnant. I've never thought about cancelling my Netflix subscription in the past because Netflix added a specific series that was garbage, but this series is extremely deceitful and disingenuous to their viewers. Many people watching this series who are not familiar with cold reading may actually believe that Tyler has some type of paranormal ability. I will admit that certain moments are astounding in that they appear to be genuine. However, when you break down what he is doing by employing concepts of cold reading masterfully while also realizing that the show benefits from editing in post-production, the viewer is left with nothing more than theatrics from a charlatan who is well versed in his ability to use specific skills from cold reading,

There is nothing supernatural happening here and the series isn't even slightly entertaining when you realize this individual is a huge predatorial narcissist that uses their skills to profit from the raw emotions of others who have lost loved ones. It's sickening to watch and the series itself is a complete waste of time. It would be far more educational if Netflix created a series on cold reading and how it is done so that they could educate their viewing audience on these predatory practices from individuals who claim they can speak with the dead.

Very touching
heidiathomson17 March 2022
Not sure why the ratings are so low. I can only imagine that it is for religious reasons.

I am a believer. How can one not be? Especially after watching these episodes.

Tyler is very sweet and is helping people to find healing and to move forward with peace after grief. What an incredible gift to give others. Especially since he sacrifices his health to do this. It takes a lot of energy to channel. To take on the feelings of others especially if they have had tragic deaths.

Tyler, watch your health! Take to heart what the medium said.

Documentary of a psychopath
themadcamel13 March 2022
I'm amazed people still buy into this stuff, the book and lessons on how this works are now common knowledge. It's a great 1920s party trick.

Tyler Henry exhibits extremely unnerving levels of narcissism and if I'm been honest that's kinda what made this show interesting in a sense. It's like a unique look into the life on an actual psychopath (least what he wants you to see) a leech feeding of the emotions of simple people.

There's a reason many magicians despise people like Tyler not out of spite but of the moral line he's crossed.

Being familiar with the technique he's using myself I decided to watch a couple of episodes thinking he might have added a new depth or angle to the trick, but no, same old trick, just better makeup and lighting.

Bad reviews written by people who just don't believe
humankind19 March 2022
Transparent how all bad reviews just say he's fake with no reasoning. The details he gets in his readings are phenomenal. I also love how this show got into the history of his family and his gift. Look forward to more seasons.

Psychics and Mediums Should Not Be Allowed to Have Tv Shows
BigRedMovieBuff11 March 2022
The props are a little too obvious. He focuses on vague and known details. Everything he says is easy to Google. Mediums are usually very observant individuals (have you even seen the TV show Psych?), but that is the extent of their abilities.

Ignore the sceptics
mannly15 March 2022
I'm really annoyed with how disgusting the 1/10 reviews are on here, so had to say something. Saying Ty should be in jail, etc... He gives his readings for free. The TV companies pay him, and who are you to say he is looking up information, when he actually asks that no one ever give him information to cloud his judgement. If you watched the show you'd know tapping into his gift has almost killed him & he wants to help others. Also, I've only ever seen people come away with an emotional weight lifted off them, so who are you to be so vile when no matter your beliefs he is helping people?! He doesn't prey on those grieving. It's them who seek him out. The people on the show are on his waiting list, and see it as his speciality. Get your facts right & just don't watch it or see a psychic. I've spoken to one similar to Tyler & facts like mum being glad she was found before the cat ate her are not online. We never even took photos of the cat. Or the fact she had rattly breathing. Some people are just gifted. My psychic even called out my mum being worried I was a coach potato! Who would professionally do that? Lol. And I paid for him. Ty gives free ones away on his social media out of nowhere to randoms. Same on his stage show. No charlatan.

I know fake, and this isn't it
MsMargo10124 May 2023
I was raised by a master cold reader, my mother was a "medium" and I had a front row seat to all of it. She even worked for the psychic friends network answering calls in our kitchen and reciting the same lucky numbers all day long. I am a big time skeptic. But this kid is gifted. This is not an exact science, nobody is right 100% of the time. And he isn't vague at all. He is quite specific, actually. Numbers of siblings, first names, random events he would have never been able to know, it's quite amazing! I love this kid! Even if it were faked, he brings comfort to people in a lot of pain, so who cares? He is wonderful in my opinion. Bravo!

Total con-artistry at its finest.
fusion-7255016 March 2022
You have to be a completely numb and dead inside to be able to do this to innocent and grieving people. Netflix you really messed up here, I'm almost ready to cancel my subscription because of this non sense. This dude is a total charlatan he has no ability, and if he actually believes he does he needs serious mental help. I'm sorry but we live in an age where you can find ANYTHING out about a person that you want. Tyler has 300k people on his waiting list!! His team can LITERALLY pick and choose the people who they can find the most intimate details about to make this charade seem as real as possible. Netflix you should be ashamed of yourselves, leave this nonsense on cable tv where it belongs. Big thumbs down from me.

Tyler is absolutely incredible!
danbaig16 March 2022
It's sad that so many people are so negative about him & the show. He gives so much comfort to the people who get readings. Anyone who can't acknowledge that or see it are the ones with the problem. No empathy or compassion.

Shame of Netflix and this superficial and fake guy
tomperuhawaii12 March 2022
As a gay man who believes in mediums, I am truly sickened and appalled to see this excruciatingly sick and silly fake of a medium with his Kardashian wanna-bees. Nothing about this man and his stories ads up or is true, it is shameful that Netflix gave this fraud airtime.

NO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!

You have no idea until you are there
Msbnitski14 March 2022
I'm reading a lot of negativity here in the comments and I understand some of it. Sometimes you see people on TV that claim to be physics or mediums and they are not. I understand skepticism until you actually come face to face with someone who has this ability and then your opinion changes.

I worked at Culligan Water in Daytona Beach, Florida back in the late 1980's early 1990's. I was in sales and Dede was in customer service and service work orders. She had never met my husband.

We were at a summer picnic that the owners were having a great time with everyone and I had brought my husband Frank with me. Dede was across the picnic table from us and as a silly thought I had Dede read Frank on a whim to see if she was able to connect with anyone. She asked Frank to give her something anything that might help and he gave her his wedding ring. She read it like a dime store novel. It was crazy and she did not know Frank at all and everything was correct on what she told him. She told him things that I didn't know myself let alone me telling anyone else knew as what she was saying. It was crazy and I had knew found respect at that table that day regarding Dede.

Say what you will about parlor tricks and pretending to know something about other people but I found a knew respect for people that have this "thing". It is real and that day rocked my insufficient world, wow. I have no more words other than this. People that have this ability will have a special place in this world. I would not want to have this ability for nothing. The weight on your shoulders is beyond our comprehension and I would not want it for all the tea in China. Just to much in your ears and thoughts, no way.

Grieving and vulnerable
MoreAir13 March 2022
I get what Tyler is trying to do, but he goes after people that are grieving, vulnerable, and desperate for closure. It's hard to view this as a feel good show when he's taking advantage of the people he's supposed to be helping.

Garbage
csm-uk13 March 2022
'Psychics' aren't psychic. There is no evidence for it. If it were a genuine phenomenon then psychics would be winning the lottery every week or even just predicting mundane things like Covid and wars. Susan Gerbic calls them 'grief vampires' and that is precisely what they are. Using well reported, simple to replicate techniques (cold reading/hot reading/google etc. ) in order to prey on the vulnerable. This is why psychics put 'for entertainment purposes only' on their websites - only, trashing people's genuine memories with BS isn't particularly entertaining.

Shame on Netflix for backing this trash.

I'm so glad I decided to watch this show! I've seen Tyler on social media and he seems so genuine.

I thought this was a very well produced show! Hope there's a season 2!

I truly don't understand people. If this isn't your type of thing then don't watch. I was shocked at how many 1 star reviews there were.

More grimm than I thought, good backstory
ednk19 March 2022
I was expecting a sequel to his E! Series. Happy, joy joy, powerful readings. That is not what this series is about. Tyler Henry grew up, came out of the closet and still is trying to connect the afterlife with the living people.

Is it scripted? Maybe. Is the info that Tyler delivers vague and random? Maybe. But are the believers feeling more comfort after a reading from Tyler? 100%. I don't feel like Tyler abuses his (non)existent powers. It's not like he's charging insane amounts for a reading. Nothing like that. He is probably the most polite person on earth and shows very much empathy to his clients.

I was surprised that this new series took a darker turn than the E! Series. For the fist time we get to see what's behind the ear-to-ear smile that Tyler always delivers. There is the backstory of the grandmother who was a murderer and a child kidnapper. In true Netflix style, that story is laid out piece by piece up until the final episode.

So what is a bit wrong with the readings that Tyler is doing in the show? First of all, it is regular people, not celebrities. Some are related to celebrities, but that's it. So any info that Tyler shares is non validated by the viewers. Only the person in front of Tyler can confirm or deny. I truly believe that the readings were genuine and sincere. But... and here comes the big but... the producers of the show made so many editing mistakes. You can clearly see that they cut out phrases and words and stitched them together, to give it a better impact or feel. And they failed. In each episode you can see several shots of Tyler scribbling and the same paper gets more or less scribbled on shown. That is manipulation. And this also what happens with Tyler's words. In one shot he sweats, or holds something in his hands, in another shot his hands are totally somewhere else. All cuts made by the producers to try to amp up the speed of the readings or slow down. Like the face shots where Tyler says nothing and only looks or listens to the other person. For me, that was a big mistake in the series and actually frustrated a lot.

Nevertheless, I do believe that Tyler is capable of something. You can see the exhausting in his eyes of always being overwhelmed with all the worlds sorrows. Going through so much heartache and often violent deaths, that does something to a person. I am very concerned about his health. Not only physically but also mentally.

Don't waste your time
Lovelove2114 March 2022
It's devastating to see how some can use people's grief for profit and fame. I hope all of you understand that we live now in world where information ( even very intimate) about person can be found in couple of clicks. Please don't let them use you. If you if you suffer from depression or can not cope with the loss of a loved one, seek professional help from psychologists and support groups. And if you want to do more research , please take your time to read works, books by James Randi and movie « An Honest Liar ». Take care !

So confused on all the negative reviews
nikkiprice-3055917 March 2022
The people who say that Tyler is a con artist and a fake clearly did not watch the show. He is anything but vague. He knows names, specific details about peoples death, careers, and items important to those who passed. He knew so many things he could not have known.

Don't listen to negative reviews
Tahnie114 March 2022
I rarely watch shows on psychics and mediums. There are a lot out there and I was never drawn to watch because some of those others didn't seem as genuine and warm in character.

However, Tyler to me feels very different. He's seems very genuine and has an amazing gift. I have seen a few mediums in my life and only 1 was truly gifted. They knew things and details they legit could not have known.

Tyler reminds me of that medium in the way information comes through for him.

People who don't understand it or who are adamant at being skeptical, will refuse to believe no matter what truths are shared with them.

This whole idea that a psychic medium should be able to predict lottery numbers and other world events as "proof" of their ability is a request that usually comes from small-minded people.

That's not how it works.

This series was very interesting and I don't usually watch these things.

Don't listen to the negative reviews!

Charlatan
mertcanhfo14 March 2022
A charlatan is becoming rich by scamming people. A true crime show. And a cameo, Netflix joins this scam. I cannot believe how Netflix accepted that, how is this man still not in jail or how stupid people must be to believe this guy.
