Strange Concoction, Definitely Not a Horror Film
mariya_mirabella8 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I don't even know where to start with this one. I gave it three stars as the actors were ok, the scenery was good and on the whole it looked like it was filmed by someone who knew what they were doing. But the actual content of the film - I have no idea what it was supposed to be. Three girls who say they are friends but actually hate each other (one seemed to have killed her mum before going on a trip), plus one fat guy, go to a village (no one seem to be bothered that the village is literally empty). They get drunk, accidentally kill a man, and are joined by another girl who carries razor blade in the bag to slash people with. Everyone falls out, and then proceed to kill each other - not in the cool slasher way, but in a very boring and realistic way. And also, there are aliens. Yes, you heard it right. Very low budget aliens who are all played by one man wearing onesie, who abduct one of the group. After all this, one girl remains, goes home, and goes to bed looking slightly tired but mainly ok. The end.

I don't know if I missed the point here and this is some sort of a very clever art film which completely whooshed over my not so intelligent head, but its definitely not a horror film by any stretch of imagination. I was left slightly amused and perplexed, and still wondering how the authors of the film managed to create such unpleasant bunch of characters (and whether it was intentional). In parts, it was funny, but never scary. I would say - watch it if you have time to spare, who knows, maybe there is something here...

Chaotic, incomprehensible and un-scary horror-attempt
johannes2000-117 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I have no idea what I just watched! Is this a joke? Or maybe a parody of a sci-fi-horror-flick?? How can anyone think or even hope that people can be entertained by this totally chaotic and nonsensical movie?!

Three girlfriends go on a trip to some sort of country-cottage, together with a guy that two of the girls ostentatiously flirt with, but who's apparently so unfamiliar with them that they don't even know that he's gay. The girls are all annoying and unsympathetic, and seemingly they don't even like each other. We witness how one of them in the first 3 minutes of the movie beats her mother to death. Why...???? The rest of the movie she walks around like a severely depressed monosyllabic zombie. That the other girls boss her around like an inferior servant does't help.

At some moment the group runs down a man on the road with their car, and they try to hide the body. But he turns out not to be dead. And there seem to be several identical men around. The sister of one of the girls also arrives, and everyone goes in due course for each others throat (literally, they start killing each other!). And hey, is that a flying saucer that suddenly pops up in the air? So maybe these identical men are extraterrestrials??

The last one standing girl goes to bed with a sigh of relief. I did the same. Because it was over at last.

A rather poor attempt at making a film
wyjptzb20 March 2024
I decided to try something new and watch a non-English "horror" movie. I am from Norway and the quality of the horror-movies here are really good. And I had faith that this would be entertaining material from Spain, and it was, but in a negative sense. I have to say I was reasonably surprised and fascinated by how bad this movie is. The plot of the film is chaotic, strange dialogue, fantastically bad acting. The fact that this film is featured on Netflix probably says more about this platform than this film. Its us, the paying public, who become victims of this new era, where diversity is prioritized over quality. I love Spain, and i love Spanish, but I wish I could give this movie 0 stars.

Our Last Weekend
Tweekums5 September 2022
This Spanish film is centred on four people having a weekend away in a remote coastal village. Diana, who is expecting a promotion at work wants a girls weekend away and has invited her friend Lisi and office junior Leo to join her for a weekend at her late grandmother's house; Lisi invites recently divorced Roque to join them as she is hoping to get lucky with him. Once there Leo starts to worry about a strange man she keeps seeing but the others just want to enjoy themselves. After a pleasant day at the beach they have an accident. They will now have to decide what to do; a matter complicated by the arrival of Diana's sister, Sandra. Tensions fray and it soon becomes clear that there is something very odd about the village... not all of them will be going home.

I was quite surprised to see just how low this film score; it is no masterpiece but I enjoyed its low budget weirdness. The opening scenes implied there was violence to come but for the next half hour or so things were gentle. Until the accident it could have been a slice of life story about a group of friends on holiday or even a romantic comedy... Lisi's attempts to seduce Roque were quite amusing. After the accident tensions raise nicely as the group try to decide what to do. Once we get to see more of the villages things do get rather strange... the ultimate explanation for the villagers strangeness is a bit weak but provided a, probably, unintentional laugh. Clearly, given the low rating, this won't be for everybody but if you enjoy low budget horror with a distinct '70s feel it is rather fun. There is some violence but for the most part it isn't very graphic and there is some moderate nudity. Overall I'd say this is just about worth a watch if you like low budget horror that isn't too disturbing.
