Mötley Crüe have unveiled the new single “Dogs of War” along with a visually stunning music video. The track marks the legendary rock band’s first new music in five years, and first song with new guitarist John 5.
“Dogs of War” features John 5 prominently, as it contains some heavy riffage and a tantalizing guitar solo. Lyrically, the song is one of defiance, with lines like, “Don’t let the dogs of war/ Come knocking at your door/ As we’re crawling ‘cross the floor/ They’ll make your skin crawl/ They’ll make the stars fall/ Do they matter after all.”

The makers of National Geographic’s The Territory are celebrating their win at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards for Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking, one of the most prestigious awards in nonfiction.
The prize, voted on by a special jury, was shared by director-producer Alex Pritz, producers Darren Aronofsky, Sigrid Dyekjær, Will N. Miller, Gabriel Uchida, and Lizzie Gillett, and executive producer Txai Suruí. Their film centers on the Indigenous Uru-eu-wau-wau people, who face constant assault as they try to protect their territory within Brazil’s Amazon rainforest from invasion by outsiders. As Deadline previously wrote about the film, those invaders are “engaged in burning down great swaths of the rainforest for mining, logging, clearing land for cattle and homesteading.”
The film also underscores what’s at stake with each acre of Brazilian rainforest that goes up in smoke — it is the ecological health of the Earth that hangs in the balance.

Thanksgiving might be over, but the scrumptious scent of Eli Roth’s “Thanksgiving” still lingers over the holiday horror season.
The director’s murderous pilgrim slasher — set in Plymouth, Massachusetts the year after a violent Black Friday trampling leaves three dead on the floor of a department store and puts a masked killer on the path to revenge — invaded our real-world theaters on November 17. It’s doing well with critics and audiences alike, who have been gorging on its themed gore and delighting in its snappy satire and inventive use of corncob holders as a victorious reunion for the “Cabin Fever” director and the horror genre.
Slasher fans have quickly accepted the rampage of the mysterious “John Carver” as a success by all important metrics (it’s doing well at the box office and on Rotten Tomatoes), but the villain’s Thanksgiving-timed arrival in theaters has been a longtime coming for Roth.

It’s bad enough that inflation is driving up grocery costs these days, and now customers have to deal with supermarkets playing “angry music” from that “death metal” band Tool. At least that’s the case involving a “middle-aged woman” at a Whole Foods market.
A since-deleted Reddit post by a member of the r/ToolBand subreddit tells the story of a woman who recently complained that a Whole Foods store was playing Tool’s “Forty Six & 2” during her shopping excursion. The Reddit user, who works at that particular Whole Foods in Hawaii, eloquently described the incident as follows:
“I work at Whole Foods, where we play an admirably ecclectic array of music. On any given day you’ll hear reggae, rock, country, pop, new wave, indie, and yes, the ocassional ‘heavy’ tune. Today 46&2 came on and a middle-aged woman approached me with an upset look on her face. She said ‘What is this?...

A Touch More, the production company founded by world-renowned athletes Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe, has announced the hiring of industry veteran Camille Bernier-Green as its head of development.

A new Van Halen box set, The Collection II, has been announced and will arrive on October 6th via Rhino.
Following the 2015 set, The Collection, which housed the band’s first six albums with David Lee Roth, The Collection II will cull the four Van Halen albums featuring singer Sammy Hagar in addition to several studio rarities and a B-side.

The Collection II will compile these records together for the first time on vinyl ($124.98) and CD ($49.98). A fifth disc, titled Studio Rarities 1989-2004, is especially of note for hardcore Van Halen enthusiasts. Among these eight tracks is “Crossing Over,” the B-Side to Balance’s “Can’t Stop Lovin’ You” (the band’s only non-album B-side...

For only the second time in the 19-year existence of the Best Documentary Filmmaking Emmy category, HBO (which has clinched the gold 10 times) doesn’t have a horse in the race. The same is true of Netflix, which achieved its 2018 victory for “Strong Island” in HBO’s absence. As a result, there is a great deal of pressure on two of the 2023 entries: “The Accused: Damned or Devoted?,” which could bring PBS its second consecutive and sixth overall filmmaking win, and “The Territory,” which would be the third National Geographic property to prevail here.
The documentary filmmaking award differs from most other Emmys in that it is juried, meaning that after each entry is exclusively reviewed by members of the TV academy’s documentary peer group, it must obtain unanimous support from them in order to officially be deemed worthy of a win. This also means that the four programs...

Pinkshift have announced their new EP, suraksha, out October 13th via Hopeless Records. In anticipation, they’ve also shared the latest single, “home.”
As the CoSign alums explained in a statement, the new project was inspired by their heritage. “I grew up listening to Bollywood and Indian classical music would round out the songs perfectly,” said vocalist Ashrita Kumar. “Going into the studio, the only thing on my mind was my family, and making these songs was unique because in my head I was making it for them.”
The EP’s title speaks to the same inspiration: surakṣā (or सुरक्षा) is a Hindi word borrowed from Sanskrit meaning protection or security. See the artwork and tracklist for suraksha below; pre-orders are ongoing.
Featuring distorted guitar riffs, “home” speaks to the idea of finding comfort with chosen family as Kumar sings, “You’ll never be alone again/ I’ll...

The growing amount of homeless, independently made documentaries has made film festivals like Hot Docs, arguably more important than ever before. Many docus that premiered at Sundance 2023 but have yet to find distribution are part of the Toronto-based documentary festival’s lineup, which in turn allows those titles to stay on buyers’ radars.
But corporate consolidation, along with streamers’ current mandate for nonfiction content that fits into one of three boxes – celebrity, true crime, or sports – means that many docu filmmakers will eventually have to turn to non-traditional distribution to get their films seen outside the fest circuit.
Tracy Droz Tragos’ docu “Plan C” follows a grassroots organization fighting to expand access to abortion pills across the United States. The timely film premiered at Sundance in January, but despite good reviews, Tragos hasn’t found distribution for “Plan C.”

Last year, as Peacock prepared to go toe-to-toe with rival services and their extensive libraries, the NBCUniversal-owned streamer announced an exciting slate of future projects. Among them were plans to adapt "Dead Day," the comic by Ryan Parrott and Evgeniy Bornyakov that sees deceased individuals return for one night to take care of unfinished business — which can mean everything from heartfelt family reunions to cold-blooded vengeance.
A bestselling comic adaptation with a killer premise going straight to a streamer known for its horror content? Sign me up! Making matters a million times better was the team behind the series: "The Vampire Diaries" co-creators Julie Plec ("Vampire Academy") and Kevin Williamson (the writer and executive producer of the "Scream" franchise) were set to reunite as writers, executive producers, and co-showrunners. But it was all a little too good to be true.

Peacock has opted not to move forward with creators Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson’s planned adaptation of the comic book series “Dead Day,” exactly one year to the day after the streaming service announced the project.
Variety reports that despite the streamer’s straight-to-series order last January, Peacock is no longer moving forward with the adaptation.
The outlet revealed that “the studio is planning to shop ‘Dead Day’ to other outlets. Peacock had bought the series preemptively, so this will mark the first time it has been shown to other buyers.”
Based on the bestselling AfterShock comic-book series created by Ryan Parrott, the comic book adaptation would’ve seen creators Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson serving as co-showrunners, writers and executive producers.
Per the series’ official plot, it “follows an ensemble of characters as they navigate the annual “dead day,” when for one night the dead come back to...

Dead Day is dead at Peacock: The streamer is scrapping the comic book adaptation from Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, our sister site Variety reports, despite it landing a series order last year.
Based on the AfterShock comic book series created by Ryan Parrott, the show would have followed “an ensemble of characters as they navigate the annual ‘dead day,’ when for one night the dead come back to complete unfinished business — be that to celebrate a night back on earth or to torment the living,” per the official synopsis. It’s been a good year for several documentary filmmakers who sought and found distribution for independently made projects at major festivals. But for many nonfiction helmers, this year’s festival circuit hasn’t proven to be as fruitful as it once was.
Pre-pandemic, streaming services went to film fests to fill their slates, but now with media conglomerates consolidating, brands merging, and Netflix tightening its wallet, film fest documentary shopping sprees have slowed down. On top of mergers and economic unease, there’s been an increase in streamers like Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Apple, and Disney either pre-buying docus or commissioning their own nonfiction projects.
Some of this year’s fest favorites were commissioned docus, including Tia Lessin and Emma Pildes’ ‘The Janes” (HBO), W. Kamau Bell’s “We Need to Talk About Cosby” (Showtime), Rory Kennedy’s “Downfall: The Case Against Boeing” (Netflix), and Ron Howard’s “We Feed People...
